Although my wife checks in on my comic, she normally reads them prior to me posting them here on the web. So I think that I should be safe posting this here.
I have been getting a few emails each day for the last couple weeks from new readers and I am truly humbled and honored by the positive words that I read. As well the continued support of long time readers that stop by to comment on daily comics or bid on original art on ebay, I want to say that you guys are awesome! But I must say, that without my wife, Wapsi Square might not have ever really existed.
My wife was the one who strongly urged me to take the characters that I had created, then just Monica, Dietzel and Shelly and turn them into a comic format. Even when I did not yet have a venue (knowing nothing about webcomics) she encouraged me to keep working with the story ideas and drawing, all the time I was still running a photography studio. Even after I sold the studio, moved to the Twin Cities with my Wife and was an Apartment manager, she kept supporting the comic as its audience gradually grew. When our son came, Wapsi's audience had grown enough that I could be a stay home dad and take care of him instead of having to use daycare. I love my job of writing and drawing and keeping our son from blowing up the house.
My wife is an artist as well and I know that she wishes that she had the option to work from home on her artwork but the painting market is more difficult and as it is, her job provides other good benefits that are very helpful with a little-one in our family.
To say that my wife's job is much more difficult than being a comic artist would be the understatement of the year. She is an Occupational Therapist and while she can't tell me any specifics of her job because of confidentiality, I know that she works with a wide variety of patients and some can be violent because of their circumstance. One time in particular she called me from the emergency room to tell me that she was okay but that she had been beaten up at work. When she came home, both of her hands had been wrapped up and her shirt was stained with blood. My job will NEVER be that hard-core.
What I would like to try and do is try to raise some money to get my awesome wife a new television. She is a huge movie fan and she loves being able to escape from the day with any number of various movies. This is a want way more than a need but I would like to call upon Wapsi and the wonderful fan base to help give back to all the giving that my wife has given over the years. My wife is the true reason for Wapsi's existence and its biggest supporter. Even if the Golem Girls originally drove my wife nuts.
I'm including the button below if you'd like to send any amount of money to help get her a new television for movie watching. Thanks so much you guys! Now let's keep this a secret as much as we can.
Hey folks! I just wanted to let you know that one of my favorite graphic novel artist, Aaron Alex, has a new trade book out in comic shops, book stores and on Amazon as of today! Go grab yourself a copy of Serenity Rose Volume 2: Goodbye, Crestfallen soon and enjoy yourself with an awesome read! Also, I have a bit of fan art in the book as well. Here's my take on Sera and Tess:
