Victoria a Puebla!
Dang, there are days I wish I weren’t teetotal…
Let’s try again.
Cinco de mayo, huh? http://www.gocomics.com/lacucaracha/2010/05/02/
I need more Mexican friends, appearantly. I didn’t even know this was today! :I … or what it’s about. Or how to celebrate it. Man, an entire country’s worth of holidays I’ve been missing out on my whole life.
Just like every one is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, every one is Mexican on Cinco De Mayo. So declares the man who is neither Irish or Mexican.
Yes and we were all Jedi’s yesterday.
(“May the 4th be with you” .. google it, srsly ^_^)
It’s about the Mexicans defeating the French, what more do you need to know?:-)
Drink!
I like the “I didn’t even know this was today!”… Lol. Since this comic came on May 5th it’s hard not to know that it’s Cinco de Mayo…….
Even if I had no idea what Cinco de mayo is… But I don’t think you need to know that if you’re not living in America…
I am so glad im mexican. ¡VIVA LAS MEXICO!
Ahh, a holiday celebrating a non-decisive battle which ultimately accomplished nothing.
~D.
Huh. And here I thought that it commemorated that ship full of Hellmann’s that went down in the Gulf, 50 years ago.
Beautiful pin-up ! I don’t celebrate it , though .
I’d raise a un-leaded glass with Monica , though .
Great recipe! but I am not old enough to drink an alcoholic drink, nor do I want to.
Recipe … ?
I live in in Southern California, so there will probably be a lot of celebrating all around me.
I’m actually jealous. My friend in El Monte is gonna be all “ugh! when are they gonna be done” and I’m all “DUDE, quit complaining! Here in NYC it’d be nothing but Bachata and Regaton. I’ll take Mariachi over that any day of the week!” ^_^
I live in San Diego–the celebrating gets quite boisterous XD I just drove up to my mom’s house to help her out today to get away from all the spring breakers! Good for you Ladywolf, it seems a lot of the kids I know come out of the womb inebriated in California @_@ There’s no point in having a drink if you don’t want to! I don’t like it when people give my non-drinking friends guff about it.
DUDE…
Sounds and looks tasty! XD
Viva la mexico!
Fnord! Are you with us?
FAN SERVICE!!
Yeah … took my sweet time getting past that first panel …
(Pablo: This isn’t fanservice; this is High Art! Well done!)
Strange celebration, considering everyone has beaten the French at one time or another.
you mean mexicans have beaten someone other than mexicans in their history? ohh…
But wait. How did they come to france in the first way? Or did I miss something more?
Here’s a quick capsule summary of the battle and its result.
Note that it’s more celebrated *outside* Mexico than *in* Mexico.
Yeah. Basically. (I live in Mexico City, and what most people like about it is that kids have a day off school.)
For outsiders it is something big. Almost as much as our Independence Day.
Better question, how are the two related comics actually related to this?
The teetotalers in the crowd can just pull up a brimming bowl of Bessemer grade salsa and some chips and after the first one, you’ll be yelling EE HA with the best of them.
See: http://encyclopedia2.thefreedictionary.com/blast+furnace
Mmm, tasty.
And the drink looks nice, too.
If only I liked whiskey…and affordable tequila…
There’ll be plenty of partying here in Texas, and I fully intend to raise a glass (of something alcoholic) along with everyone else after work today.
Yes, the decorations have been up around my part of Texas for a week…
When we were cruising down the Pacific coast, we stopped in a town, and they looked at us like, “Cinco de Mayo?” Not a big celebration as it is in the States. However, once this bar saw all the cruisers coming in to drink and celebrate, well Hey! Now that particular palapa gets it all decked out. The rest of the town, not so much, lol.
The cruisers also wowed them with Thanksgiving, but that’s another story.
Yay, Cinco!
Of course, if any readers from Arizona plan on celebrating, they’d better make sure they have the proper documentation. Something tells me that the kicking up of one’s heels today could be probable cause for more than just the bartender to have to see your “papers.”
Gargle Blaster, Gargle Blaster,
Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster!
Also a teetotaler, but wouldn’t turn down a good party, either. What say I hot wire the Internet, and drive us all to Tijuana, or at least El Segundo?
I call shotgun!
Seatbelts? We don’t need no stinkin’ seatbelts!
I just might try myself that drink! I have no idea if I’ll be able to get to the ingredients today, but I doubt Monica would mind…..
Beautiful pinup, Paul. I love the beautiful smile on M’s face. And she seems a mite taller, even with the heels. Did you draw her on a slightly different proportion scale for this? It’s so subtle I think only other figure drawing nuts would catch it, but I’m curious
Here’s to you Monica!!
Btw, does that mean she has to drink a fifth on the 5th??
I think she just looks taller because her legs look longer in that flirty skirt. Bless you, Paul…..however it was done, it was done good!
Danggit! Now I gotta go find a photo-quality color printer!
Monica has never looked better.
And now I have a new drink to add to my recipe book. Thanks, Paul.
I concur about the smile. That was done RIGHT! If Patch could capture that, I might be willing to part with the requisite cinquente dollares.
Do we need Cazadores® and Bushmills™ 21-year malt or will well versions do? Have you mixed a couple of these and does the recipe stand up (even if you can’t afterwards, yuk yuk yuk)?
I love tequila. I love whiskey. Let’s do this!
My college roommate liked tequila shots, and he liked Jägermeister shots. Then we went to a bar that mixed both liquors in one drink.
He liked it fine, but I don’t think he remembers anything after that…
The only thing that sounds worse than that is The Bottomfeeder–a shot of tequila with a floater of fish oil. Or the frozen blueberry and Ron Rico smoothie my friend fed me when I was too drunk to do anything but drink what was given me. Blugh!
Dr. Pepper makes Jager almost palatable IMO… but I think the only people who like Jager are people who want other people to THINK they like Jager.
I got one…a joke drink called a cement mixer…first take a shot of Irish Creme and hold it in your mouth, then take a shot of Rose’s® lime juice and swirl it in your mouth with the irish Creme, which curdles int he lime juice.
Many, many “brave” souls have fallen victim to that unfortunate drink, and paid the price for the remainder of their evening…
Hahahahaha! I’ve heard of it but never seen someone attempt it.
Yeah, you see what happens to Bailey’s and ….anything you combine it with coming up like Jungle-Juice-flavored cottage cheese and it’ll put anyone off of Bailey’s. Tooootally not speaking from experience here.
Isn’t tequila tasteless (at least the good stuff)? How can one love what one cannot taste?
Spoken like someone who has never had tequila. The good stuff tastes good. The not-good stuff tastes terrible! But even the good kind is an acquired taste.
So , Mexico somewhat prides it’s self , on the quality and variety of corn grown there . Do they have corn juice (moonshine) to match ?
Mexican Moonshine! A new economic driver, perhaps?
Hmmm . Yeah . I think I should brush up on my Spanish , and head down there and take the wheel . I think there could be some good money in that . ; )
Naw . Never mind . There’s got to be someone who’s tried it before .
Makes me wish I had been born a ‘toon in Minneapolis…
Monica~ritas for EVERYONE!! Enjoy!
awesome holiday pic as always
