She’s not exactly a major character. She’s Jacqui’s assistant at the yoga studio, doesn’t get along with Shelly very well, and she used an amusing tattoo analogy
Fat Uncle- Look for an idiot to throw. There is almost always one nearby, and no one will care much if it gets damaged.
Put me down! ARGH! Ouch, Medic- help . . . please?
@danzier: Ah, but you can charge them 3 times the pay scale too… and just think about it after just 12 hours you’d be getting time-and-a-half and then after another 12 double-time for the rest of the week, and on sunday…whoot whoot! that’s triple time now!
@paula: at the SAME TIME!!! is her laundry room in her kitchen? that’s kinda weird, either that or she had really long arms!
Actually..yes.
From what I remember the kitchen and where she was doing her laundry were very close by.
Her washing machine wasn’t there though. I assume she moved the clothes into the main room.
hmm
okay i wonder do these backgrounds give us some more insight into the character?
i have always wondered about jaqueline and luci but well…seems like possibly they have the same interests.
Though i am unsure if jacqueline met luci before the studio as she went to Shelly for advice on what style of yoga to do.
Would love more background info on luci please paul!
maybe a later storyline?
Paul is so good at symbolism, so I have been assuming there is meaning to the backgrounds. Fer instance, I get the feeling that Lakshmi and Owen are doing very well and may be doing so for some time. because of the white picket fence in thier background.
I’d love to know more about Luci, too. I want to know more about her tattoo’s, and if there is a connection between recent celtic references and her choice of ink.
And now, the dichotomy between her ink and her background.
Lennon’s glasses (originally just glasses) were the standard National Health glasses.
Cheap but fully functional.
This also explains why so many working-class Brits have all their teeth, but they’re not pretty – National Health paid for dental care, but not orthodontia.
I’d say her former “stockiness” was an illusion created by not-so-form-fitting clothing. Except for the Yoga Studio poster, we only ever saw Luci in work attire that wasn’t what I recall as flattering. Yoga wear is frequently much more snug of a fit though…so now we see more of the real Luci shape!
Hmm, yah, I see. I thought she were chubbier considering her clothes, and could see more body mass existing hidden behind her leg in that yoga shot (txmystic linked), but I its easy to see otherwise too.
Too bad, to me she was the pretty one that didnt need a wasp waist
It’s funny, because the link I posted was the end of a conversation she was having with Jacqui regarding self-image…she chose to wear the frumpy clothes because Luci herself belived she was chubby…
You think Luci reminds you of Marci?
Because they both use formal language when addressing others? they both have nearly identical round spectacles that conceal their eyes? They both have deep anger issue (probably–Marci was always dominated by P. Patty)? Both their names end in -ci?
Yes, she certainly does remind me of Marci. Jacqueline’s personality and freckles seem a bit like Peppermint Patty’s, too. Don’t forget Charles Schulz was a Twin Cities native son–maybe he influenced our Pablo or perhaps Jacqui and Luci are a bit of a homage to Chuck Schulz?
This one is awesome…though to me it implies a kind of zen-ness that I didn’t think Luci really had given her issues with Shelly. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it though. Goodness knows that not all yoga practitioners are cool, calm, and/or collected.
The Artist is either saying goodbye, or re-introducing his creations before letting loose with a new story. I really hope the latter; these characters – and commentors – are almost like family by now.
I’ll be 64 on Friday. C’mon Paul, give us all a present.
Why do people keep insisting that, with one story-line completed, Paul is gonna quit drawing the strip? He’s got plenty of other stories to develop, he’s got lots of readership, and apparently is doing well enough financially, he’s consistent with updates. What indicates he’s not going to continue as he has?
Agreed, he’s working on a remodeling project, and from what I have seen, he is extremely enthusiastic still about his creations and isn’t going anywhere any time soon. I’d imagine he just needs a break and something easy and relaxing to do. I know all too well how much energy it takes to make a creation come alive (I have my own fully fleshed universe that I and a friend play around with). Just enjoy the calm and the pin-ups.
I’m working on a kitchen remodel that included gutting the kitchen by myself. Our house is full of boxes of cabinets waiting to be installed by pros, countertops are currently card tables, and now I’ve found that the company that sent the cabinets, scratched them all up before boxing them and also didn’t square the joints when assembling them. My mind is otherwise occupied and yet I’m still working to get something worth coming to my site for my awesome readers.
No worries. I’d rather have a sanctioned break with nice scenery, than reruns anyway. Gives me time to gather up these recent panels, and put them on the home computer as slide-show backgrounds. We can hang on while you get your stomping grounds back in stomping order.
so many times I’ve been on web comic forums when the artist is on a break to read
“wah no comic updates! how DARE the artist have a life outside the comix, i hates teh artist” and so on. (I may have exaggerated but that’s roughly what they say/mean)
last week when this all started was wondering if this would occur here but it didn’t
this forum makes makes me happy sometimes purely for the peeps in it
I think sometimes the personality or the quality of the author’s work has a lot to do with the spirit of the group–and then there’s just the core of people who show up and keep the discussion going.
Unsure on that
I read ‘Dominic Deegan’ also which is written by what seems to be a wonderful guy.
I used to read the forums.
Some of the nastiest people on the internet seem to read that comic.
However to balance it out the peeps who go to meet ‘Mookie’ when he goes conventions seem to be nice people so maybe they are the quiet majority
Take the time and do it right the first time. It’s a LOT less stressful than having to undo/redo later. The pinups are great. I would rather see you having fun with the characters than trying to force a story along with everything else going on or taking an extended break. Do what works best for you Paul. I’ll still be here.
So, G00k, not censored. Just (respectfully) answered.
Having done that kitchen redo ourselves (custom cabinets with no assembly instructions—but I’d done the drawings, so I knew which ones went where, at least—plus removing a wall, rewiring, AND installing a new [bamboo] floor) I can commiserate. It took us months!
And so totally worth it. Fight the good fight, Paul. Just watch the thumbs while swinging that hammer.
From what I know, Paul hasn’t censored anyone. Ever.
(Still I only get to read the forum not the moderation. He could be censoring left, right and centre However, some of the posts – very few – can be derogative to the comic and artist, so it would be logical to assume no moderation or very little)
and yea…reading ‘reasoning with vampires’ is making me realise my crappy grammar and spelling so much its getting silly now. I’m rechecking everything about 10 times. And possibly still getting it wrong
No, not like that. Just when someone wants to use my venue for their issues when there’s plenty of space on the web for them to get there own venue, build their own audience, and then spout their rant there.
No, not censored. Good. The one previous post I did ages ago was , how would one say it,”disappeared”. I thought it was on topic (which I won’t recap, since it might veer into dangerous territory.), mildly voiced, but might have been inflammatory to one individual when examined closely. I didn’t see anything about renovations, which are none of my business, but with which I sympathize with Paul – having the heart of your home torn up is terribly stressful the longer it goes on. I don’t have the skill to cut a straight line on wood, so ours was in the hands of professionals, each an artist in his own right,
I enjoy the story and the art, and as was previously commented, I wondered when the story was to resume, and whether there was some blockage. It’s natural. And asking about it could be compared to asking about that nasty rash, or important client-presentation at the office one’s been occupied with.
So thanks, Paul, for your response. I hope the kitchen comes out perfectly.
txmystic: no it’s a garbling of my last name that has been my nickname for 45 years. Pronounced like “cook”, not “cuke”. Some people see ugliness everywhere.
Boys and Girls, lighten up. Paul is a giant among men. A very fine artist, and an adult. He can defend himself if he feels the need – he can hit the delete key – poof, I’m history, ok? I skip the pile-on comments, and only care to read if Mr. Taylor replies. I don’t produce a web comic, and I don’t blog (yet), so he’s much farther along on the evolutionary trail than I. Have a nice day.
Since I left the thumb drive with Luci on it in my e-book today, I have the linked wallpaper below.
Kind of a bummer, ’cause I was trying to do one-a-day as long as we were getting pin-ups.
I found an old copy of ‘MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER’ in Eides comic book shop “Dahntahn”. Originally cost the exact copy was .75 cents, Asking price was $75.00!
LIKE!!!
Tree pose gardening. An interesting concept.
So, she’s the shatterer of worlds?
That’s a different incarnation – Kali, IIRC.
possibly her?
though if not…haven’t a clue who it might be.
I thought was Kali first off also.
Definitely seems like a Nataraja of Shiva (which is a he, not a she)
Whoa! I like too. And a .jpg WHOA!
is…is it bad that I don’t remember Lucy? >_>
Luci*
She’s not exactly a major character. She’s Jacqui’s assistant at the yoga studio, doesn’t get along with Shelly very well, and she used an amusing tattoo analogy
remembered her as soon as you said yoga, thanks. I actually did like her for her brief appearances. Nice to see her pop up again.
She was my pick for Shelly’s phone call. Probably the longest shot of them all.
That would have been kinda cool!
It’s all about balance.
Put some Karma in the pun jar…
I’, terribly sorry that my karma ran over your dogma.
Oh, dear god.
There will be a momentary pause whilst I hunt about for a rock to heave though your windshield. A half-brick. Something.
Ah, this is where it starts. Maybe here x
Two song titles from an album (back to back)
The Hare of the Dogma
Asbitme
Fat Uncle- Look for an idiot to throw. There is almost always one nearby, and no one will care much if it gets damaged.
Put me down! ARGH! Ouch, Medic- help . . . please?
Neat pic … but I’m about ready for story to resume now! I need my fix of supernatural soap opera! XD
Oh my…
Thats what this is! IVE BEEN READING A SOAP OPERA!!
Oh the shame of it.
You are now aware that amnesia and evil twins show up with the same frequency in the comic book world as they do in the soap opera world.
Lets see if this stope the spate of runaway italics
Nope. One more try x
I like this very much, and for no obvious reason. I just do.
Then again, I had to look at it three times before I realized it’s in color. Maybe I’m too tired to pinpoint an obvious reason.
my first thought was damn thats creepy! but…relooking at it.
I see what you mean
Maybe not color, per se, but the warm grey copic markers.
Coptic markers? How appropriate…
hssssssssss
Down Fairport, please do not bite the Wonky.
More of an old time picture sepia tone.
I like a woman who can multitask!
in an episode of ‘charmed’, Piper was inhabited by a six-armed hindu goddess.
she was washing, ironing, cooking all at the same time.
Was kinda distracting from the episode as I kept wondering how cool that would be!
It would suck once someone figured out you could do it. They’d give you three times your current workload and you’d never have a minute off.
But you could then give them six ‘one-finger salutes’ at the same time…
@danzier: Ah, but you can charge them 3 times the pay scale too… and just think about it after just 12 hours you’d be getting time-and-a-half and then after another 12 double-time for the rest of the week, and on sunday…whoot whoot! that’s triple time now!

I’d love to know more about Luci, too. I want to know more about her tattoo’s, and if there is a connection between recent celtic references and her choice of ink.
And now, the dichotomy between her ink and her background.
anyone else noticed that the supernatural character (Sphinx, Golems, etc) dont have a background?
Luci has some real self-confidence issues, but she’s as cute as a button.
i like her glasses
they remind me of the sunglasses john lennon wore.
Lennon’s glasses (originally just glasses) were the standard National Health glasses.
Cheap but fully functional.
This also explains why so many working-class Brits have all their teeth, but they’re not pretty – National Health paid for dental care, but not orthodontia.
She reminds me of Marcie. She’s older, broken up with Peppermint Patty, and gotten inked – but she still looks like Marcie.
Isn’t it “Marcia”?
Nope, Marcie.
Weird, I remember her being somewhat more stocky. Did she lose some weight? Done some belly slimming exercises?
She also apparently lost some of her tattoos.
I thought her main ink was body art primarily on her back.
There was also the yin-yang on her right bicep, surrounded by the Celtic knotwork. (Showing here.)
Godsdammit, what didn’t the link work? Let’s try again. If that doesn’t work, I’m talking about the strip from 22 July 2005.
She looked pretty good in the poster advertising the studio…and Fairportfan is correct, her ink is primarily on her back!
Yep. Dat de shot i was thinking of.

Ooooh. Me like.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Sorry, I’ve never been particularly fond of her. That, and the fact she reminds me of the Peanuts gang character gave me serious chills.
“You’re weird, sir.”
Yeah.. that’s what I’m talking about.
i know what you mean but i always assumed it to be deliberate so tended to ignore it
You think Luci reminds you of Marci?
Because they both use formal language when addressing others? they both have nearly identical round spectacles that conceal their eyes? They both have deep anger issue (probably–Marci was always dominated by P. Patty)? Both their names end in -ci?
…I don’t see the resemblance…
Oh, and they both have completely suppressed any attraction to dominant redheaded women, of course. *grin*
I’m glad I’m not the only one who felt the Peppermint Patty and Marcie vibe there.
You mean Marcie; Peppermint Patty’s sidekick. Chuck Schulz was a Twin cities native; perhaps he had some influence on our Pablo?
This one is awesome…though to me it implies a kind of zen-ness that I didn’t think Luci really had given her issues with Shelly. Maybe I’m just reading too much into it though.
Goodness knows that not all yoga practitioners are cool, calm, and/or collected.
Goodness (or even Evilness) knows that dealing with Shelly in petulant-toddler-i-want-it-now mode could try the patience of a saint…
Or lead a demon into church Fairportfan, There to claim shelter under the protection of the church from such attack!
The Artist is either saying goodbye, or re-introducing his creations before letting loose with a new story. I really hope the latter; these characters – and commentors – are almost like family by now.
I’ll be 64 on Friday. C’mon Paul, give us all a present.
Or, (C) redecorating his kitchen so he doesn’t have time to do full strips, but doesn’t want to leave us high and dry.
Condiering he made noises along kitchen decorating lines last week, i think that’s the likeliest answer
Sounded more like a wholesale search-and-Destroy mission to me.
Well, All these pictures could be good for a CAST Web-page. that this Comic sorely needs for new readers…
Yet those things get so old and outdated so fast…as the story goes along. A Wapsi Square cast page would be a full time job to keep up.
PBH

He’s got plenty of other stories to develop, he’s got lots of readership, and apparently is doing well enough financially, he’s consistent with updates. What indicates he’s not going to continue as he has?
Fear of loss, I’d bet. With possibly a little pessimism on the side.
“I’ll be 64 on Friday.” Well, you’ve got the music for it. Assuming your family still needs you, and still feeds you. Happy birthday!
Great family, thanks – including friends that I haven’t yet met.
I see people burning out all the time. I avoided it by retiring, then going back to work part-time -kind of as a hobby.
I hope Paul is doing this because he loves the characters as we do. If so, he will be giving them to us for a long time.
Is it ominous that Luci’s ink seems to be very much a Celtic motif? I have the suspicion that we’re not quite done with the artifact story arc.
Sure, that has enormous narrative overtones.
Some Amazing Pics This Last Week.
Its Good To See Some Of The Support Cast Again Too They Need to Make An Apperance In The Main Strip Again Soon.
On another note, I like how Shelly and (in this pic) Luci look physicaly strong but still feminin (If you know what I mean).
For the record, Paul, I’m really loving these pages. Thanks!
I must agree with my goat legged constituant above. I’m loving the time with the pin-ups.
So, is it writer’s block? Or vacation? Will this be censored? Let’s see.
The pix are good, don’t get me wrong, but I wonder about Paul’s aganda sometimes.
I’m working on a kitchen remodel that included gutting the kitchen by myself. From the “been there, done that” corner, you have my sympathy. There’s no excuse for shoddy work–but oh, how they try.
they have been awesome.

I’d really only worry if you are planning to be a published author. Or if you plan to chide others for crappy mistakes.
Now you have revealed my secret master plan to the world!!
Seriously though, anything that promotes better quality is good I think
I know for a fact he has censored (deleted) posts.
If it’s not on topic or a rant or inflammatory, yep, I censor.
Not on topic? That’s it, I’m doomed!
No, not like that. Just when someone wants to use my venue for their issues when there’s plenty of space on the web for them to get there own venue, build their own audience, and then spout their rant there.

Why didn’t it just call itself “CCBSS“?
Word.
fistbump
No, not censored. Good. The one previous post I did ages ago was , how would one say it,”disappeared”. squeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
Where did the little Monica come from????
Don’t care what you said before. That was modesty! You ARE a professional or should be!!!
*breathes*
okay .. I’m good.
Thank you.
The little Monica comes from a Mommy and a Daddy….they go to Google images and put in Paul Taylor. You get all sorts of stuff…
Am I the only one that remembers ‘Squeeee!’ as the sound of a robot getting it’s head karate chopped off?
no
Am i the only one who remembers who the artist was (i think)?
Magnut, Robot Biter!
Russ Manning, if memory serves.
I found an old copy of ‘MAGNUS ROBOT FIGHTER’ in Eides comic book shop “Dahntahn”. Originally cost the exact copy was .75 cents, Asking price was $75.00!
Yup. Manning.
I remember buying issue #1…
That’s just beyond awesome – as is Paul letting you guys with talent play with his art.
And the photo backdrop just adds to the creamy goodness…
Take heart Paul.
We dodged a bullet.
I did not total my keyboard because of this image so you don’t owe me a new one.
But it was really close.
Apparenlty Luci has some pretty sweet muscle definition goin on too.. Awesome.
ummmmmmmmm YES!
Fairportfan: You’re still bitter that His Greatest Excellence killed the comments on his strip? Tut, tut. It was an improvement .
And the artists choice G00k, I for do agree with you after some of those comments.
