I thought the demon in Shelley's mind was her, as a kid, right after finding her mother, dead. And also, right before/during/or after cutting off all her hair. Also, I don't think this is doubt. if it had a name, it'd prolly be like "Insecurity" which is vague/broad. This is Shelley's metaphysical "little girl" who wants her mother back and won't let others replace her. Hence why she wanted to attack Heather in the nightmares, coma-induced dreams Shelley had concerning Heather's introduction as more than an acquaintance. Paula brings up the point I was thinking. Watching the woman's hair be blown by a fan off screen and say "It's staring right at me! I can feel it staring at me!" was a 5 out 10 on scary-o-meter. I can't help but think that if we ever saw the thing that was haunting the couple it would look like the little girl at Shelly's bed. It would have made the movie worth watching. ya know I went to see Paranormal Activity last week and it was ok.
