I don’t really know what hetrosexual women think about, but I can tell you homosexual women do think about stuff like that much of the time. Explicit stuff too. My mom had a killer porno collection.

The only reason I can think of for that stuff is to develop artistic realism since the human body is infinitely more attractive in clothes.

Not exactly, but when it comes to graphic slaughter, it’s strictly male victims here. Of course this is typical of pretty much all cartoonists out there. I think they all share the same brain in that regard.

You’re forgetting the fact that several female characters have died in this webcomic, as part of the plot. Which is how it is in the majority of the comics universe.

          • SoWhyMe
            SoWhyMe
            December 19, 2010 at 12:09 pm | #

Died, yes, sort of. They’re all alive now in one way or another. But none shown having their head sliced into sections, or a fist through their chin, complete with resulting blood. That sort of thing. As I said, graphic slaughter.

It may be part of the initial plot in some comics, but it ends there in the vast majority. Show me ONE web comic that has roughly equal numbers of males and females shown killed. Just one. In most, if females are involved, they are doing much, if not most, of the slaughtering. Some, like the two linked to in this comments section, go out of their way to have nothing happening to females, even the evil ones, yet several males killed in the on-going plot as if it’s nothing, even funny. In one, hundreds of males, and not one female. That’s typical. And before you say that’s how the world is, I would remind you this is not the world. Comics are fantasy. Thus the author has the flexability to present any way he/she likes. Yet, they present it the SAME way 99.9% of the time. Thus the shared brain comment.

Lets see I remember one guard killed by mayahuel, Tina and Monica being killed on camera also extreme pain and graphic hurt felt by Shelley, off camera there were the guards may killed, Shelley’s mom, the GGs being burned to death and the entire population of lanthis (50:50 male:Female) and the little girl (little children always trump everyone else) other than that not much though the men tended to die relatively quickly so the women win this one for being variously burned, stabbed through the head and living, hit with a calendar machine, having tattoo like thing coming out of skin violently, waking up and knowing she was going to die, having dead body possessed by demons and librarian, being immortal (can’t think of anything worse than immortality) and being locked in a prison for something she didn’t do.
If we were to assume that this comic is not equal opportunity then the men can really only defend their position as the takers of abuse by the fact that they are routinely… assaulted by their girlfriends, and so far they aren’t complaining.

I’m afriad you missed the point. I said graphically shown. Not who suffered. How much of the actual killing was shown? Tina slumped over the wheel, and the little girl is about it. Tina was resurected, and not shown sliced and diced or head ripped open. So I’m not sure she even counts, and Monica was quickly brought back to life. Monica was never actually stabbed in the head. Also, as I said, if females are involved, they are doing much, if not all of the killing. May was a monster, who had no qualms about murdering anyone at any time just to make a point. Jin, before she became a golem, is shown ripping open a man’s head. Notice how none of the bad guys were females? How convenient, and how typical. The GGGs, also females, slaughtered thousands, not on orders, but through a huge temper tantrum. And the sphinxes (again females), murdered who knows how many (mostly, if not entirely, men).

All of which makes me wonder why these things have male defenders. It seems there is always some female(s) who can defeat and slaughter any number of men without so much as breaking a nail. If women are that good, why don’t they have mostly female defenders/soldiers/bodyguards as well? I know why. It’s because of that sharing brain thing again. I doubt that thought has even ever occured to any of them.

Oh yes, and I meant to mention the comic to which you linked, Cwens Quest, is very typical of what I meant. The evil queen orders her 3 male (of course) advisors to kill the dragon. They get eaten alive in the process (like we didn’t see that coming), and nothing happens to her, even though she is roundly defeated. I’ll be willing to bet the entire comic is like that.

May isn’t a monster, she is goal oriented, What jin did to that man (who was about to r*** those girls) I classify as self defense and defense of others, she is not a bad guy

as to Cwen’s quest which is worse being killed or being defeated, Knowing you are defeated and allowed to stew in that ignominy for the rest of their sad and sorry life.
must i also point out that said advisors were qualmless about taking the child Cwen using her as a puppet to achieve their goals and never allowed her a normal childhood, and they also had no problem replacing her when she ran away.
said comic also shows the replacement to Cwen being Shot through the head as a direct result of her activites, and Cwen’s half sister is hit by a bus (on orders of her father) after being taken forwards in time, Symus takes a lot of damage and Trel was thrown into a dimension filled with nothing but hats (by her father), leaving major psychological problems. Not to mention Lord Attez’ habit of throwing kittens out of windows.
also if you missed it, the reason Sabril was not killed was that Cwen made a deal with her and Cwen keeps her word.

I think this needs clarifying I put the pain above the gore. Emotional above physical, and longevity above elaborateness since i have cultivated my empathy over the years and those are the things that are WORSE THAN DEATH. I am sorry but being aware that she was being stabbed through the head was probably extremely unpleasant for Monica, and Conscience’s little demo was entirely unpleasant especially cause the eyes kept moving. the little lanthian girl had it worst since while it was over fast and probably didn’t hurt, it made her die in fear and torment so she couldn’t pass on.
Most males die in these things because they have a hero complex or a pig gene. Mostly guys are also in more dangerous occupations so mostly we can’t assume that context isn’t important in the death count.

Also you said 1 comic with approximately the same number of male and female. I gave you Wapsi and you retort with Cwen, and women are monsters, why do you fight this? have we taken Feminism too far and you feel you can’t get recognition is that it?

          • SoWhyMe
            SoWhyMe
            December 19, 2010 at 11:48 pm | #

It has nothing to do with feminism and everything to do with equality and balance. Most feminism has little to do with equality and lots to do with money, power, vengence, and superior rights.

With equal rights comes equal responsibilities. That includes the responsibility to die. Motivations and real world occurances are meaningless in the fantasy world of comics. Going off into “worst than death” territory has nothing to do with my point and cannot be compared as it is highly subjective. Monica was never stabbed in the head, period. May isn’t a monster now (and has more than paid for her crimes), but she was. And that was when she was still human.

I hardly think having to join the opposition and living, probably still well, is much of a punishment compared to being eaten alive. She’ll get used to it quickly, all the while plotting how to get her throne back I would imagine. My point is why weren’t any of her “advisors” female? She was a queen after all, seems like she would have other females around her. But they were destined to be killed horribly, so the writer made them male. It’s that simple. As I said, how or way is not important (again, it’s fantasy, after all), it’s purely a numbers game to me. Now, do a body count in Cwen by gender, and let me know how it comes out.

You may be right, Jade, but why are there so many more men? Why aren’t there more even numbers? Because the artists/writers almost all seem to think alike, which is one of my points. You will rarely, if ever, see female cops, or paramedics, or security guards, etc in any of them, even though these occupations have many females these days (look at how many airport screeners are females). Yet, somehow, when it comes time to die, only males seem to show up.

Hero-Complex vs. self preservation, typically women have a more dominant preservation instinct than hero complex since we evolved so that we can look after our children better. Men have a hero complex because defense of others is a macho thing which may be expected to attract girls

SoWhyMe: there are more men in comics (and thus being “cops, or paramedics, or security guards, etc” and “doing all the dying”) because, as you so aptly pointed out in the discussion on the previous strip, more guys read and make comics, therefore main and minor characters are more likely to be male (and thus “doing all the dying”.

Want more girls in comics? So do I. I want to see more female characters I can identify with and more creators I can look up to. But even when presented with a comic like Wapsi, with fantastic female characters, people automatically assume that it has a greater male readership. Maybe ten years ago that was true, but I personally know more girls who read comics and webcomics. We’re not so much of a minority any more and we are contributing.

Problem is, even comics drawn by women follow the exact same pattern. The gender of the artist seems to make no difference in the “brain sharing.” I had a disussion with one of the female artists who did follow the pattern, even though she said she was trying to show things opposite regarding gender roles in her comic story line. She did, but only up to a point. When i pointed out that should mean the scene in which she had with many, many males slaughtered (by a female) for no real reason, should have been females slaughtered for it to truly be opposite, she didn’t have a clue. So ingrained is the mindset. When she finally did get it, she became incensed I was pointing out her hypocrisy, she delete my postings. It has nothing to do with the number of females in the comic.

How can you spy on a cat? Company comes over, they get in the middle of the floor and kick up that leg and clean. It’s like trying to sneak a peek at the golden gate bridge.

He’s awfully fit for being a photographer, isn’t he?

Come to think of it, almost no one in the entire cast has even just a little excess body fat. M’s boss maybe has a bit of a tummy, but he’s up there in years.

I suppose it’s hard to draw overweight people without being offensive. plus it is hard to put them in fast paced world saving action, and the evil B*st*rds that took the GGs weren’t quite so evil as to make unchangeable bodies that were overweight

are you saying that you look like THAT? you’d better be Very careful with your adress or you’ll be trampled to death by half the female demographic who reads this comic (The other half is married, too young, or in it for Heather)
or are you saying that you are a nudist who habitually does this stuff? in which case you probably don’t have to worry about the above painful death

Seems fairly “healthy” to me. Or perhaps you’re viewing it sort of like a group of women hooting and carrying on during “ladies night” at the local strip club. A couple of drinks and a few male strippers can make otherwise reserved wives, mothers, grannys, and GFs as raunchy as any males.
