Welcome to the new Wapsi Square!
The new site has been put together by myself Phil (Frumph) for Paul so that he could focus on his artwork. The new site uses ComicPress 2.8 which allows for a variety of functions, abilities and tons more user interaction!
If you find anything out of order or a bug please make a comment! (yes you can make comments now and even comment on commenters (threaded))
With the myriad of new things Paul has at his disposal on the new website i'm sure you should be looking forward to exciting and new opportunities as a reader of Wapsi Square to be involved.
- Phil (Frumph)

Ummm – links to the forum at BLC/
Or is that “no longer an operative statement”?
Heyyyy, I like!
And, i assume, there are supposed to be links on eht “Cast” page – if there are, they’re not working for me.
FINALLY! It looks good.
Hey Phil, awsome job with the site, looks great. Well, and kudos to Pablo too.
One thing I have noticed with the new layout, there’s no clear link to the forums.
I don’t know if this is on purpose or if they’ve just been left out by accident.
Thanks! I blame pablo for the inspiration. (forum link was omitted for right now, might be back)
wow, fast reply, thanks for the headsup.
now I just got to figure out how to add my avatar, I’ve uploaded it to Gravatar but I don’t see where I attach it here.
oh well it looks like it worked
gravatars are associated by the email address you put in the input box when filling out the comment form
Awesome new design! Love it
Sweet!!!
The random button keeps taking me to the latest strip. I love the new look though. I have been reading this for about two years now and I just love it. When I lost my internet for awail i made it a mission to find this site again. I’m glad that I did.
think that was a supercache issue, and I just fixed it so it wouldnt cache now
“Might” be back? That sounds ominous. While this new threaded format is interesting, it’s going to be harder to find topics…
I LOVE the new look, Phil. This is going to be a huge help for Paul.
Congratulations on the new site. I love the comments I couldn’t live without them at my site.
herm… love the look, but RSS seems to be broken… Every time I click on a link in my RSS feed, I get Page not found.
The feed is now: http://wapsisquare.com/feed/
NIce! And nice flow too. I like the colour scheme.
The rss feed sent me to:
http://wapsisquare.com/d/2009.html
…and I had to hand correct from there.
Your first post didn’t appear because i have to approve everyone’s first post. =)
I can understand having comments attached to each day’s strip (although, you’re really going to have to go back to the forum and pull all of the old comments to seed this setup — and I know you’re not going to do that). but you can’t just kill the old forum — what would we do without the Wapsi Pub?
Third time’s the charm. Your rss feed dropped me into:
http://wapsisquare.com/d/2009.html
http://wapsisquare.com/feed/ is the new RSS feed, you might be cache’ing the old livejournal feed or something.
I can see that this is going to get Very Long.
It looks fantastic, Paul. I love it!
Phil did all the hard work! ^_^
pshaw, what I did was easy, you’re the one who does the hard work making such an incredibly awesome comic
Aw shucks! *shuffles feet*
LOVE the new site design!!!
Thank Gods! This is so much better!!
Woah, I love the new look. It’s all shiny.
Somehow I find it amusing that I really can’t imagine the artwork itself shiny but having a shiny website around it sets the style apart even more. Makes me smile inside. Oh, 2 comments. It might be nice to push a post through the old RSS feed so the first introduction to the new site isn’t a 404. The other is that the archive calendar link defaults to the earliest posts instead of the more recent which probably doesn’t fit the use case for those who are looking for the archive (Hmm I missed the last three days) but I can see the other side too. Oh well. You asked for bug reports in comments, so you get them.
Did I mention that this is shiny. mmm Shiny.
Shouldn’t be shiney.. what browser are you using?
I was mostly referring to the menu and its nice gradients with Monica sitting off on the end with a fine white outline. There are also some gradients on the “access triangles” built into the search and archive components on the left column. The speech bubble dude/ icon for this post also appears to use gradients for the “shiny” effect. If the gradients are not suppose to be there and the fine white outline (which sets Monica off nicely) is not suppose to be there then: FF 3.5.1 (oops i need to update) on Mac OS 10.4.
Looks good either way.
ah *whew* had me worried there for a minute, the base theme to comicpress is still there and what i’m doing is overriding it, so worried you werent seen the theme that overlays over it
Minor bug: I got a 404 and a link to click to take me to the home page, which takes me to exactly the same URL but with a comic. Since this is the same URL I have you linked to from my site that could be a problem (and I do check my links to make sure they don’t get broken, habit from when I first got on the net back in 1996)
wapsisquare.com/index.html does not exist anymore, remove that from your link on your site, it’s just wapsisquare.com now
But that’s what a lot of people had bookmarked, on account of it being the old home page. Same with the old RSS feed dying: that’s how people got here, it could very well lose Paul readers, especially the RSS thing, I know I’ve lost track of several webcomics whose feed didn’t agree with my new RSS reader, and if I hadn’t happened to want to re-read the last few comics, and come to the page, I would have let the defunct RSS feed sit in the reader and assumed there are no new updates, for a while at least.
“Wow” indeed – good timing introducing this design with that strip…
Hey! This looks great! Now the look and feel of the website of one of my favorite webcomics fits even better to the webcomic than before! Good job!
Heroic regards from Germany!
thirtyseven / ancire / arne
I love it!
Nice job, Phil.
MUCH cleaner now~
I like the new design. Except for the little picture of Monica in the headline graphic. She looks like a hooker. Cowgirl Monica would look much better. In fact, any picture of Monica would look much better.
Except for the little picture of Monica in the headline graphic. She looks like a hooker.
I thought that too. I don’t see anything seriously wrong with the occasional fanservicey pic, but when the two permanent images on every page are the heroine looking sexy in fishnets and the heroine looking sexy in a strapless bikini, it sends the message the comic is about the heroine being sexy, rather than being about a heroine who deals with serious problems and happens to have an idealised body type.
Those were the images available to Frumph when he was designing the page for me. I’m working on other pics for those places.
I like the new layout but there are a few issues as far as I am concerned.
1) Monica’s top page logo is displayed in a big grey bloc that is over the project and shop buttons. I guess it is made to look like she is sitting on the buttons but the transparent color (grey) is showing and hiding them. I have a similar problem with the browsing buttons (showing in grey boxes)
2) I can’t get to any of the sub-menu in the drop down buttons. There is a gap between the menu and sub-menu and the entire thing disappears the second the mouse pointer is leaving the original menu.
3) The support the artist and wish list links are half hidden under the website main frame.
I am currently using IE6.
“I am currently using IE6.”
See, that’s your problem right then and there – IE6′s horrible support for transparent PNGs. At least upgrade to IE8…
np: The Orb – Dolly Unit (Baghdad Batteries)
Yeah, unfortunately while I know that some people still use IE6 at work and it’s a requirement, officially – even with microsoft and other tech companies IE6 has been depreciated and you should just accept the fact thta there will be issues going to websites while using that outdated browser.
PayPal donation and Amazon wishlist art and links are off the page to the left, only partly visible (and the browser is scrolled full left). Using FireFox, if that matters. I like the new look, hate the comments (never liked them much, cumbersome and awkward to deal with). Not that I post that much anyway and this gives me an excuse to stop altogether (not abandoning the comic, though. Keep up the good work, Pablo.)
that is by design to make it look snazzy!
Didn’t work. It just looks broken because you can only see part of the link images and can’;t scroll to reveal them. Oldtimers will know what they are but newbies won’t be able to tell.
Just happened to check this out on my real computer (not my netbook) and found that the problem is one of resolution. You’ve made the page left justify on the comic, so windows with not enough width get those two images pushed off to the left without being able to scroll to them. In full screen, it does look good. You just need to make the site left justify on those images, not the comic. Stuff off the right side can be scrolled to just fine.
It’s your artistic decision, but I think it makes it look wonky, not ‘snazzy’, and, well, like an afterthought.
New site looks great! Woo calendar!
It’ll take a bit of getting used to. Gonna have to change my weblinks on my quick bookmark pages. How long until BLC forums go bye-bye?
…and I’ll admit, I just wanted to see my new Gravatar.
vroooooom nice gravatar =)
Awesome new design! It was quite a surprise to discover that today
A breath of fresh air I’d say!
One SLIGHT problem…
I’m not sure what algorithm TheWebcomicList.com uses to keep track of listed comics’ site updates (RSS perhaps?), but I surf here from my favorites list on that site every day. And something has broken the connection. On my list, Wapsi now appears with an (Error) notation behind it, and todays posting not at the top of the list along with the latest round of other daily updates.
A small consideration, so I don’t know how worried about it you are. But I still thought you might like to know.
I’m pretty sure? not entirely sure on how they do it at TWL but it’s more then likely through RSS which has changed, if you could leave a note to them over there that would be great.
kudos on the site! Looks amazing!
Love the site, Frumph! Well done! Looks clean, fits with the theme of the comic and is very visually intriguing. My congratulations to you, and to Phil for the new look of his site.
Erm… of should never follow myriad… just saying.
Looks great. Only one problem: my old bookmark pointed to “index.html”, which doesn’t exist now. You should probably put a page there with a redirect to the new default page.
LOL I noticed the pic of Monica changed in the top graphic from “hooker” to “schoolgirl”. Was that in response to my earlier comment, or does Paul plan to change it every week? Either way, I like the juxtaposition.
I like the new look very much…
…the new naming-convention in the archives is a bit of a problem, though.
Descriptive labels are nice, but the loss of the old [yyyymmdd]-format as an option makes it a bit more trouble for me to keep track of the comic’s progress, since I can’t visit each-&-every day.
Could we get a new “Forums” item added to the Links dropdown on the top menu? One that goes to the old Forum, and one that goes to the old Wapsi Pub forum? At least until something official happens. Commenting here is nice, but there’s no place to do off-topic stuff.
What happened to the strip for 2008-06-26 ()?
It must have gone missing. It’s there now. =)
