I am a Wapsi girl – why? I recognize the duality of being an independent woman, realize that “confidence is sexy,” and am sometimes a little insecure that I am too insecure. 😉
Being a woman is intense, as far as the duality you have to embrace in the face of feminism. I embrace the power involved in being a woman with dreams, ambitions, and goals. Gender roles are no longer to be a guideline in my life. I do “guy” things like get dirty, drink beer, and enjoy football all while wearing makeup, high heels, and wanting to exude womanly/girly beauty – I EMBRACE my curves! And keep healthy!
I’ve come out ahead over a history of horrific abuse. Instead of letting it fester and make me a lesser person, I learned from the abuse and refuse to continue the cycle with my daughter. I believed in myself and actively made changes to turn myself into a more positive woman in spite of being in the throes of PTSD, and letting it bring me & keep me down.
I soul-searched and figured out slowly what facets of my personality needed to be changed to move from the negative outlook that I had, and turn myself into a realistically-optimistic woman that’s independent and a positive influence on others, and my child. I actively made changes – three years ago I was not the same woman I am today. When I was in the middle of an abusive relationship, I lost who I was completely. It took me years to find myself again, and I will never give up a strong sense of self-identity for anything.
And I will never, never stop striving for more growth. I’m a student, I work full-time, and I enjoy time with my amazing child, as a single mom. I plan to teach her what it is to be a woman. I don’t mean makeup, and high-heels, either. I mean how to derive strength within yourself, own your independence, curves, and how to be in a healthy, happy relationship while maintaining her individual dreams. I’ll have several roles that I want to, and will be proud to show her, as she grows: a career woman, a loving significant other, a woman with a strong sense of self, and a caring mom.

I am many things. Fortunately, ambitious is one of them!
