Paul asked me to do this writeup ages ago, but, admittedly, I’ve been putting this off since I just don’t know where I fit in with all these other wonderful ladies who have overcome great adversity or jumped into lakes to save drowning children. I’m not like them. I’m sort of just… me. I like the color red and ice cream. Sometimes I really like ham, too, but it depends on the day.

As for what makes me a Wapsi Girl, I’d say that I attempt to be someone willing to give everyone a fair shot. I try not to judge people. I want to understand my world, and am not content with sitting on my duff and being told what is true and what isn’t. I want to get the facts myself. Traditional gender roles and stereotypes are meaningless to me (and I wish everyone else would get over them, too.)

A lot of my worldview stems from the fact that my family is filled with strong-willed ladies. I especially look up to my late grandmother, who was a pilot during WWII (although not sent into combat, she did most of the same stuff as her male counterparts.) She’s pretty much my hero. I’ve spent a lot of time working in male-dominated jobs, but she was working in a male-dominated society. And I’ve never encountered any resistance like I’m sure she did. I guess whenever I feel like I’m a loser, I try to remember there’s some awesome buried somewhere in my genetics.

In closing, I often put a drop of vanilla behind each ear so I’ll smell like a cookie all day.

… No, wait. I don’t actually do that. I am going to try it at least once, though.
