At the age of 16, I was sexually assaulted and for years I let the fear of that moment ruin my life before I was eventually diagnosed with depression. Life had thrown me a curve ball for which I struck out.
Now, 10 years later, I’ve learned how to embrace who I am and be myself, demons and all. My quirky personality and humour get me through each day. Rather than looking at obstacles with a negative opinion, I take it all in my stride, realising that the curve balls life throws at us, can be hit back. They may not go where you want them to, but they do lead us on a new path.
Out of my friends, I’ve been known as being the unpredictable one, yet at times, I can be the most level headed. My sense of adventure is back and I no longer hide from the dark demons that plague my past. And while some days I would love to get into a time machine and prevent my assault from happening, I’ve come to realise that I don’t actually want to change the past. It’s because of my past and the paths that I’ve taken that I am the woman I am today.
