Something that’s been bothering me. If this past Brandi knew how to fix the calendar enough to write the book telling her future self how to do it, why couldn’t she do it herself?
Isn’t this just basically implying that she either knowingly failed so that the book’d go to her past self or she wrote it more or less as she was ‘walking out the door’ to confront the Calendar Machine in HER time and it was a precaution in case she was wrong? Which implies she IS wrong?
One can know how to do something but yet not be the one that’s capable of doing it, or having other people properly primed to want to do it themselves. =)
Ah, okay! So basically, even though Brandi figured out how to do it, she still had to actually do it. In other words, she had the way but not the means.
I guess with how complicated it all seems, it’d only be natural that other people’d be the problem. 😉
Maybe Brandi needed to be absolute sure that the stabbing is necessary to fix the calender machine.
Either that or Brandi herself is busy by being one of the light sources, and she need another person, that both can get close to M and not interrupt the lights.
The book is iterative – it is edited multiple times on different loops. The only reason it survives each time is that it’s in the Bibliothiki, outside of time, which is the point – it is Brandi’s kluge version of Jin’s 82k year memorybank.
Okay…wow…dick move, Brandi, dick move. Having two of Monica’s best friends stab her, in the back more than likely. Shelly is going to be hard pressed to heed Tepoz’s advice when she hears about this one. And lets look at this from Monica’s perspective; she is finding it hard who she can trust right now, and then the two people she thought she could trust are going to stab her, after being told to do so by yet another person she thought she could trust. Ya, shit hitting the fan on epic levels here.
I hate to say it, especially as I love Wapsi Square and have already bought some of the books,, but I do not like this new page layout. I read WS daily through a (latest version) bookmark/favourite. Now, instead of one click, I have to click three times to get to the strip. Ohter than that, WS is brilliant.
Chris.
Well, there still is the question as to WHERE she needs to get stabbed. People are assuming that it’s being stabbed in the back, or stabbed to death, but what if it’s just a stab in the arm or something? Or something else that’s survivable? Heck, even if she got stabbed in the lung, with Poiting, she could be in a ER before she has time to be cyanotic.
That might be true, but think on this. If one of your trusted friends stabs you, even if it is in the arm, are you going to say “well at least it isn’t fatal”, or is it going to be more like “Wtf! You just stabbed me!” No matter how it is rationalized, Monica is going going to see this as betrayal.
I stick to my theory that its written by corrupted version of Brandi, couse it just stinks of evil, and betrayal is one of the major ones. and even Monica would be willing to work with it if she knew it was for a good couse(assuming she does’t need to be sacrificed on an Mayan altar or something)

Did I miss something somewhere?

it sounds horrible, but maybe stabbing her will not actually kill her, while everyone thinks it will, and can not bring themselves to try.

Yep. Kinda expected that.
That, or that Monica was going to have to stab either Tina or Jin…
now we don;t know how they have to stab her, it dosn’t say kill her maybe they just need some of her blood like in ‘Pirates of Caribbean’
BTW love the new look of the site and love the comment section and it seems to load faster too. 2 thumbs up
if they just needed her blood it would have either said so or said to cut her instead of stab her

“You threw a knife at my face.”
“Yes – undt you caught it”
“You threw a knife. At. My. Face!!!”
Awesome Buffy reference there.
“I’m immortal, I can do anything!”
“Really? Clap!”
“I got stabbed. Right here!”
“You also lined up exciting new crime.”
“I got stabbed!! Right here!”
[…uh, Mr. Whedon sir? What’s with the stabbing theme?]
Okay now, this is seriously getting into creepy territory…
That’s what I love about this comic. It can go from cute to chilling in three seconds. Paul’s the man.
And all of a sudden I’m reminded, “Oh, right. Ancient Mayans.”
Um, she might get better, though… right…?
I KNEW IT. Blood has to be spilled.

I love the composition of the second panel… especially the light in the background. (I am in awe)
The lighting is always excellent (and awe-inspiring)!!
