She’s created from something a lot older than she herself is. The Blackthorn was ancient and wise and she occasionally shows flashes of its wisdom. Castella knows exactly what she is. She wants to be something else.
My fave is still :
Londo: But this…this, this, this is like… being nibbled to death by, uh…Pah! What are those Earth creatures called? Feathers, long bill, webbed feet…go “quack”.
Vir: Cats.
Londo: Cats! I’m being nibbled to death by cats.
Pickle might need Monica, Phix, Nudge, or some of the other titan class girls to readjust her attitude. Misunderstanding your place on the food chain can get you killed and she needs to be shown that she might not be as high up on it as she thinks before she falls prey to the mongoose effect, a mongoose can kill a cobra they’re designed for that put them in with a viper though and they’re lunch.
Maybe if she wanted to fight or kill yes. But she doesn’t. She doesn’t need to be shown her place on the food chain because she doesn’t want to be in the food chain she wants to be a normal girl. She needs understanding and help not beat up.
Agrecian: she has no intent, or desire, to use her ‘powers’ at all
Although, that being said, she does need someone to help her control her powers, we don’t want poor Timothy getting *ZOT*ed because he got fresh one day and she just meant to slap him
Help control yeah but that’s not what “being shown their place on the food chain” is. The main issue in this scene is they are praising abilities she doesn’t want. Especially since she’s in the valley to vent without hurting anyone. She seems to have decent control over her abilities already as well.
Pickle has a surprisingly mature outlook on herself…more so than Bud and Shelly apparently do. She knows what she doesn’t want to become, how mixed up she can get at her age…and that being reminded at how “cool” her powers that make her what she fears becoming isn’t the best route
I think pickle needs a “don’t point a loaded plasma cannon at anything you don’t intend to kill” lesson. A sudden swat into a nearby canyon wall from a giant Sphinx might do it. Or a reminder that Bud can throw a fast ball at 1/3 the speed of light.
C`mon! The kid needs some guidance, not cheering about her powers.
Looks like she needs a… “Mindful Education.” *Sings “Here Comes a Thought,” from Steven Universe.*
*Shelly* & Guidance. Two of these things do not go together.
I see a need for straight talking. Grandma Lilly and Jin would seem to be the go tos.
OTOH, put Pickle in front of Tina. Just Because.
Why? What has Tina ever done to you? o_O
Nothing, I just want the Cabal to read her.
And offer her a fluffy. Caffeine, Pickle doesn’t need.
‘Pickel in frontof Tina’ is a great idea. They both shoot straight from the hip, sometimes without wanting to…
“Hi Tumbleweed!, you look down in the dumps; here’s an Organic Mango Lasse, just for you…”
This should be right up Bud’s ally…
I think Pickle is my new favorite character.
Honestly, who says ‘tween’ in an actual conversation?
She’s created from something a lot older than she herself is. The Blackthorn was ancient and wise and she occasionally shows flashes of its wisdom. Castella knows exactly what she is. She wants to be something else.
So, what: “pre-teen”? “Middle-schooler”? “Tween” is different, and useful when apt.
Couple people I know, doing their best to raise ’em.
I’m sure there are others; my personal circle isn’t that big.
this reminds me of the Iron Giant
“I am not a gun!”
Reminds me of someone who said there was a young woman inside, that had feelings.
Her name was Acacia Budur…
oooh. Pickle vs Coalesced Chimera. We’ve got a spare planet, right?
Remember – the IG had to be TAUGHT and REMINDED that he didn’t HAVE to be a gun.
Damn, I want to hug Pickle. =(
Poor kid.
Aw sweetie… you *are* just a tween, you’ve just got a lot of extra stuff on the side.
In a world of overpowered supers, I do believe we’ve just met our Lyta Alexander.
“Pleased to meet you, Mr Garibaldi.”
Nice….nice.
I saw the end first while scanning the page, and read that in Londo’s voice…. 🙁
“Vatever it is, It Can’t Be That Bad.”
My fave is still :

I prefer the ‘negative personality’ scene.
Londo: Vir, you have what the Earthers call a negative personality.
Vir: No I don’t!
Londo: There, see?
Londo rose from comic to tragic – He didn’t get near the scary-WMD that Lyta hit.
Gotta say it.
That’s a stunning bit of control, coming from someone who just discovered this power.
I was expecting to see a charred stump there.
It might just be a touch-range power. I don’t think we’ve seen her ZOT! anything she wasn’t actually touching.
Also, if you remember. She first used these powers before the time jump. She fried a toy. Don’t remember the comic, but its been a while.

Alas, the plasma cannon who would be Child; what do you do when a WMD bomb doesn’t want to be a bomb anymore? Bud knows this answer…
