There is a marked difference between someone looking and finding information for the wrong reasons, than that same person finding the same information, but for the right reasons.
I wonder if Phix is going to handle Castela differently because this is the first time she’s been looking for information she needs for a purpose, rather than just looking up for the sake of learning things alone. This may put Castela into the “adventurer” category that Phix has different rules for.
“You’re lucky your parents are dead…”. Besides the normal load that might have on anybody who heard it, then there is the Atsali-Factor to take into account…
For the record what Pickle actually said was, “At least you know your parents are dead! Because I know mine threw me away!” (Less the superfluous “that”s). http://wapsisquare.com/comic/threw-me-away/
Given that Pickle is much stronger and more dangerous than her sister I can understand why this is being handled with kid gloves. I imagine that most of the people in the know have been having nightmares about this since she began evidencing her powers.
But in the Library, Phix is the Allmighty. Not even Biia, a Titan of Power, could do anything to stop her from knocking her out of the Library. …literally.
In irrelevant observations, I’m amused by the fact that Phix’s dress becomes a camisole when she shape changes. I wonder what creatures make clothing for paras whose shape and size change this way, and how much control there is over how the styling adjusts. I’m also amused by the modesty-is-cultural aspects of para life; a sphynx or mermaid can be bare-address on their natural form and nobody notices, but as we saw in the pool if they’re wearing human shape they adopt human modesty. Convenient for the artist, but not entirely implausible; what’s demure on the beach would be daring elsewhere.
Btw, is there still interest in doing that commission of Phix rampant to balance the Atsali pic I bought?
Seek and ye shall find, verily all you wish to know; from the fountain of ages from which knowledge doth flow. If one seeks something that time may have forgot; It can turn out that one wishes they had sought it not…
In other words Phix is asking, “Are you sure about this?” I can hear the resignation in her voice, and its something that she really, really doesn’t want to do.
That’s what her expression in panel two says, but in panel three she is all business. Whether she wants to or not, it’s her job, not as a concerned friend of the family, but her actual job. She’s not asking the question (completely) as a concerned Tanta Phix. She’s asking it as head authority of the Library. I think Pickle is about to learn that the Library is a very different place for ‘extracurricular learning’.
Glad she asked. I was hoping she would…
I HOPE Phix can let Pickle down gently about where she comes from and how she was involved in Atsali’s parents’ death…

For example… will Phix ask her a riddle?
I’m not yet ruling out the possibility that Phix just asked Castela a riddle in today’s last panel.
Phix has told Nudge it’s no longer their job to filter out the adventurers.
My mistake then.
I’m glad Phix decided to put Lily out of harm’s way while she tries to take on strong-willed Castela.
Same here!

Little kids say things like that.
meanwhile, the one with abandonment issues is home all by herself.
genius move pickle…genius.
I imagine Atsali is somewhere with Nadette or out with Bud. I don’t think Lily would have shown up without speaking to Atsali, if she were there.

And the library repairs itself, so if Castela would have a bad reaction there shouldn’t be any deaths or damage.

Pickle’s growing self awareness is actually kind of frightening to watch.
And encouraging at the same time.
Few are so careful in their introspection.
Yes. I hope she doesn’t wind up regretting it.
That ‘girl’ surely has a potty mouth.
