Question: Are Shawna’s eyes, [in her human guise,] more sensitive to motion then they are able to resolve shapes. ‘Stella was close enough to that set, and it was large enough, that Shawna diidn’t see the edge of the screen.
I once had a dentist strongly suggest that I swap my metal fillings for porcelain…that was worth a home theater and the new wing on his estate to hold it…
I think it was Alcoa that did that with nickel. (Someone thought they’d found silver, but it was nickel. So like George Washington Carver and the peanut, they invented reasons for nickel to be in demand.)
As an aside, the scene would have had even more impact if Castela had remarked sometime previously about the success of her etsy account and all the fun things she was going to do with the proceeds…
You’re right about the lack of foreshadowing of the Etsy shop. Doing it now (well, in an upcoming comic) is still retconning to cover an a**-pull. But I somehow get the feeling that Mr. Taylor has been reading our comments — again… 😛
I don’t personally see this as a retcon (“retroactive continuity change”). It doesn’t contradict anything that’s been said before in the strip canon, nor does it force us to reinterpret some past behavior or actions in a new and very different light.
Castela having set up a successful Etsy shop without Kath’s knowledge, is just “something that happened off-stage” and is well-supported by what has happened before.
One might even interpret this as “the firing of a Chekhov’s Gun”, since Paul did show us that Castela had learned to plasma-carve rocks with extreme delicacy. Her time in the canyon with “Reginald” was the setup, this is the payoff.
I’ve never been sure whether Paul is reading the comments, or whether we’re reading his mind and intentions. Possibly both are true.
Yep, in the “blastin-sumthin” strip that B0mar linked yesterday. Let’s see if I can relink it here (follow at your own risk, archive dives are too easy to get lost in). http://wapsisquare.com/comic/blastin-sumthin/
Yep, knew it. Praise what you can, but she still has to pay for it.
At least Cass has the Etsy shop to earn the money with. The “home theater” is just a matter of scaling the cost to the resources of the one being penalized.
Now that’s just being greedy. If Pickle has to bear financial responsibility, that’s all well and good. She owes the replacement value of what she inadvertently destroyed. Having her subsidize a major upgrade as well is just plain unfair!!! Even if her Etsy store is THAT successful!
You’re getting too old to be punished in the traditional mother-daughter way, Castela.
So, when are we gonna get carved stones for sale?
Dynaquad! Dynaquad!
(Yeah, I’m definitely revealing my age!)
I’d buy one of those carved stones Cas. ~<3
A couple new face designs? I see what you did there.
Castela: “My girlfriend has no nose!”
Kath: “Really? How does she smell?”
Castela: “Lilac perfume… shampoo… ♥ ♥”
Hah!
Who tipped her off to the etsy shop! (And why don’t WE have a link, too!? I wanna pretty, plasma carved rock!)
Maybe we can get “cast stone” replicas. Hmm, would Mr. Taylor find a source so he can peddle them to his fans?
Hilarious <3
Kathryn knows you DON’T get angry with a 500 kiloton plasma cannon in the shape ofa child!

So when life gives you lemons…
… make a lemon production empire and take over the free world?

Yeah… sounds about right. It was bound to happen at some point.
Repayment with interest.

If memory serves, Cass DID mention Etsy when she first started carving.

Yep. Praise her for developing further control over her powers and for being remorseful, but teach her responsibility for her mistakes.
Why do I foresee Brynn, Selene and Hellen being invited over to test out the new home theatre system?

I was thinking the same thing. Unless Kath is footing the bill for the extra components herself, though Cass’s commentary doesn’t support that.
Castela may be assuming that she herself is footing the entire bill . . . she may or may not be correct.
Also, it depends on how successful her Etsy shop is . . . if she’s into 5-digit income, she should be contributing to the household expenses.
She also has to pay income tax.
