I’m sorry, this is awesome comic so far, but no one in their right minds would arc weld without a mask, let alone a thick shirt. The light alone burns, to say nothing of the popping molten metal.

At least she is wearing welding goggles…

Those goggles have a #5 lens for gas welding, she needs a mask with a #10 at least, for arc welding.

I’ve got two mental pictures here… “Shelly”, and “anyone in their right mind”. And I’m having some trouble making them line up…

Welding sheet metal, a #8 or #9 lens might be enough, especially in bright ambient light, but that much exposed skin . . . the UV is murderous.

And I’m sure her father has told her that numerous times, only giving up when time after time he’d find her welding wearing only a t-shirt, a pair of gloves and the googles, and never showing any sign of burn damage…

He probably rather not think about about it. Just like her habit of carrying or even throwing V8’s…

Shel also doesn’t put a lot of thought into her safety concerns.

I would normally agree totally, but this comic isn’t exactly based on realism, you guys. A chick threw a shark earlier.

What? That was totally real. I’ve seen it in my dreams.

Didn’t I see film of that happening?

Is this the first appearance of Shelly’s family name?

It’s a webcomic, guys. Stop overthinking it.

Welding with that little protection is a powerful way to sunburn and, later on, skin cancer. Not advisable. Comic – funnny! Health and safety at work – meh. ;-Þ
