Now she’s starting to sound a bit like Jin.

hm, sounds like some girls I know, overthink it, complicate it, and worry.. Men just dont do that!!

note that compared to girls that worry about many things that may not be right, etc..

The men usually will not see *anything*, and simply think “hey that girl smiled!!” they are simply happy you looked…

I was thinking more in terms of specifics, where Shelly is using much of the same reasoning that Jin used to explain her reluctance to enter a relationship with Alan.

Men do think like that. Most just won’t admit it.

That’s not quite true. My boyfriend definitely worries that he complicates my life unnecessarily, whereas I (girl) have zero issues like this. More a symptom of a complicated life than of gender.

Does Alan (that’s Jin’s boy, right?) actually know what Jin is and all? I recall that he understands she has mental and emotional issues that need working through, but does he know she’s a golem that’s thousands of years old with powers that can destroy large sections of populated areas on a whim?

      • Jay-Em
        July 13, 2011, 7:26 am | #

He knows. Jin, in a moment of distress, even asked him if it felt weird, making love to a clay puppet…. Severely killing the mood for a bit.. 😀

There’s also the time she stabbed herself in front of him. She was unscratched, of course, but the knife wasn’t so lucky.

        July 13, 2011, 10:58 am | #

point is, she is a nice sexy clay puppet.. and she must be ‘soft’ and all those other *nice* human bits… otherwise the relationship would have stalled rather quickly…

      • Kramegame

not just puppet, but a clay doll…. making it even weirder…

That is what she is trying to do. Shelly’s being stubborn again. I sense an intervention approaching via Creepy Girl aka Conscience aka Connie to knock some sense into her head.

      • thedutchdevil
        July 13, 2011, 7:11 am | #

seems more like she’s trying to excuse her own thoughts by carrying her own thought proces/thinking over to him.

she’s trying to get out of the relationship and now tries to excuse that by the latest pannel thought

      • Eee
        July 13, 2011, 9:27 am | #

At this point she might literally have to use a baseball bat…

I’m hoping that Shelly gets this all settled in her mind, is ready to break up with Justin, invites him over to tell him in person… and the moment he walks through the door, 80,000 years of unsatisfied lust shuts off her mind and she tackles him like Monica did Kevin, to the same end. And afterwards, she thinks “OK, maybe I need to reconsider this…”

    • SoWhyMe
      July 13, 2011, 10:40 am | # | Reply

If she does decide to break it off, I suggest she tell him she “got religion.” Something about a retreat to a feminist enclave where she awakened her inner mystic (i.e. was brainwashed). Of course, Justin might not give up and try to dirty her brain again.

Whatever her rationale, she will have to cut her hair again beforehand. A sudden follical growth spurt like that would surely raise uncomfortable questions.

Of course there’s always the method of last resort. Tell the truth.

I was once of the opinion that should a woman ever tell me she loved me, my only response should be that she’s not really in love with me; she’s just trying to justify her bad taste in men.

That would be a stupid thing to say, and so would Shelly dumping Justin.

    July 13, 2011, 12:07 am | # | Reply

Its a shame that she thinks this way. Though, I’m not the only one who thinks that I’m sure. The fact that she remembered him and is concerned about it this much must mean she still wants to be with him. Especially considering the fact she is considering breaking up with him more for him than her.

    • Francisco
      July 13, 2011, 1:35 am | # | Reply

She thinks “she doesn’t need the complication” before she thinks that he doesn’t need it. It’s clear that she doesn’t want the relationship but she’s trying to convince herself that she’s doing it for him.

@Paul: Check up on your advertisers – both Avast and AVG antivirus programs are claiming that there is some kind of malware being distributed by this site. Do you know if it came from a Google ad or ContextWeb?

      • FortMax
        July 13, 2011, 12:44 am | #

Neither. The offending Java applet (yes, an applet, not Javascript, as those don’t load the Java plugin) was something hosted on 5763.in, and adblock+ reported it as being called by the site itself, rather than contextweb or google’s ad service (And I, uh, block both of those, just like any other ad service that boggs down my browser with flash ads)

        July 13, 2011, 2:36 am | #

I closed the browser (Firefox), then restarted it and re-entered the site. This time there was no warning.

AVG did a program update yesterday evening. Might have something to do with it.

      • Fairportfan
        July 13, 2011, 3:13 am | #

Maybe, maybe not. I think that they use both signature and blacklist, and while the first might be affected by the program update, the second wouldn’t.

And, anyway, others are reporting that McAfee and (i think) Avast also reported it.

Seems to be gone now, though.

Paul, I got a script injection exploit warning from AVG this morning when I tried to visit the site for the first time. I think there is a doctored ad running on one of the ad services you are using.

Since I couldn’t find an email address for you, this looks like the only way to warn you and my fellow readers about this. AVG didn’t give me any more details than the warning, so I can’t tell you which ad is causing this.

        Exploit Script Injection (type 1702)

This also caused the update to fail. When I tried updating again, all was well. I’m using AVG and Internet Explorer 8 under Win 7.

    I dout that would happen.
Chances are Justin will see what Shelly is about to say and beat her to the punchline by breaking up with her.

And agreed. This is reminiscent of the Alan/Jin story line.

Shelly is still seriously shaken by the whole 80000-year sphinx-affaire. She is reasoning about it in a very complex way, but the bottom-line is, she first has to get herself back ‘in line’ so to speak, before she’s able to be there for someone else.

She knows on an instinctual level that there is -at this moment in her life- not enough room for the emotional turmoil that relationships unavoidably are.

The moment she has worked out her current prblems, will be the moment she’s ready for a relationship.

Aaaaand…in the back of her head, her abandonment issues are also playing a part. She’d rather split-up now, than face the issue of Justin leaving her…..

If that makes any sense… 😐

The malware which is coming up is linked randomly – likely through a banner ad, possibly from projectwonderful, to the following site: http://5763.in
It is attempting to trigger a in PDF java exploit by calling the browser to open a PDF named:
    anjmbnirxwiu.pdf

If you can lock down where the http://5763.in is being loaded, you’ll have your culprit. But since it seems random depending on refresh of the page, you aren’t likely infected directly, rather one of your advertiser banners is occasionally showing an infected ad.

    Hope that helps.

I suspect that whatever is showing up as a Bad Thing is in some rotating content (assuming there is rotating content – i have Opera and Firefox set up to block all ads, etc.), since sometimes it seems to be there, and sometimes not.

Because women do–it’s easier to install them on both models, and just turn on the parts you need.

Why do penguins and ostriches and other flightless birds have wings?

Davecom3, penguins do use their wings to fly–underwater.

Ah, FYI. I received a ‘HIPS/RegMod-009’ ‘suspicious software’ warning when viewing this page. You may want to ensure someone hasn’t injected a Trojan or something here. Perhaps in an ad or something.

Hey now, he’s in a relationship with a Comanche girl. I don’t think finding out she’s part Mythic isn’t going to surprise him too much more than ‘sploding BBQ grills.

I asked something several comics back and I cannot remember which strip and comments grow to well into the hundreds, so I’ll ask again and book mark this page. 🙂 LOL

Shelly looks different. Not just the long hair, but something about her eyes. Is it just me and it IS just the lack of hair all over her face or is Paul just so awesome as to represent her changed “aura” in his drawing?

Her eyes are a bit different, I wanted them to have a calmness about them but also a sadness too. It’s just the state that I put myself in while drawing her, it seems to carry to the paper somehow. 🙂

Ah.. I was wondering indeed what exactly was different about Shell. The hair was a given, but the eyes.. *looking closer for a bit* yeah ,they are different. More.. demure? Introspective?

Weird. I meant to say her whole face, but it is her eyes that are the focal point. 🙂

So, if one is complicated, and a complication is forthcoming, how complicating is it it if the complications are not as forthcoming as we expect?

    Complicated, isn’t it? 😉

Okay…just kind of putting it out there but I never got the feeling Justin was here to stay anyway. He just seemed to be around for sex (even more so than some of the other guys in this comic lol). Tina pointed out less than a year ago that Shelly was “About as close to her guy as newspaper comics are to being interesting” and not much has progressed since then.
I mean…Justin was a good guy but…that doesn’t mean he’s Mr. Right. Just Mr. Right now. He brought her out of her weird solitary and celibate lifestyle that she was inflicting on herself, which was a weird change from boy crazy Shelly.
Just my take on all of this. I don’t know. Maybe I’m really far off base.

I always got the impression he was in it deeply. He indulges her walls, but I think he’s just being patient and waiting for her to let him in. I always saw them like a man sitting patiently waiting for the wolf (Shelly) to trust him enough to take the meat from his hand.

My assumption (or hope) is that either she’ll change her mind after realizing that she doesn’t HAVE to give up on that (especially if it IS shallow as she keeps it… not complicated if you don’t let him in) or that he’ll convince her that whatever is going on, he’s still wanting to be with her. Or even the whole butterfly thing, he’ll let her go, but remain her friend and they get back together once she realizes what she’s lost. 🙂
