As long as she’s still got the Clock Key’s blade in her head, I don’t think they can use Monica anymore. Shelly’s apparently blocked herself by fusing all her demons together. Maybe the demons have come up with some other access… Or a demonic version of Disneyland…
And Doubt better watch out. Monica set her on fire once, she can do it again.
Yep, definately Doubt in her grundge period, getting her buns burned by the power of Monica’s outrage and will.
Although thinking it over, Monica may have other options to get Doubt to go away than a roast. We saw Bud ‘poit’ Monica’s Doubt into Jin once; I would assume Monica can do similar and dunk Doubt into a lake like Amanda. That she doesn’t automatically do this may be because she doesn’t want to risk damaging her own psyche; or that she’s accepted Doubt DOES have a place in her life…
I think that was before Monica knew she could poit anything including herself. As a matter of fact, Bud and Brandi didn’t seem to be very sure of what they were doing when Bud poited Monica’s doubt into Jin. That was just supposed to be a test, after all. That was before the GGGs were sobered up, though.
I agree that Monica has accepted that Doubt has a place in her life.
As I recall the story, that demon, whomever she/it is, was taken in by the GGGs and kept in the basement, after Monica delt with her via the butt fire incident. Eventually she crawled back upstairs and was noticed by Bud. The demon then started bugging Jin (bad idea, but not entirely her fault) and Jin sent her away to somewhere even she did not know where the demon went. That last sequence begins here: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/stinky/
So I don’t see how it could have been Monica’s present Doubt.
Tomorrow’s strip settled it, I think. Monica talked about Doubt bringing information back to her here and on May 23, 2007 in the “neverknowinglylie” strip. I don’t know how Doubt made it back to Monica, but perhaps Jin unknowingly poited her into the demon realm. The demons seem to be able to move back and forth between that and their hosts.
M’s demons actually being helpful by providing useful info? Unheard of. Absurd even. Probably would have been better coming from Phix, who apparently is the author of said amendment or something like that…
oh, Wow man! there’s something waaaay more sinister about doubt when she’s a floaty head with hair tendrils than when she’s rocking her svelte demon body.
The demons hired to continue the possession after the other demons had been sacked, wish it to be known that they have just been sacked.
The new demons who have been hired will manifest in an entirely different style at great expense and at the last minute.

An outlet? So they what … plug themselves into the wall socket from time to time? Or are they organizing soccer leagues?
And what is this “replaced” thing? Are there demons in the dugout waiting for their turn at bat? From where do they get replacements? A want ad in the Supernatural Gazette?
The tomato sauce topping is probably hot as lava. I have had more than one pizza where the tomato paste topping would burn your mouth even after it sat a while. That stuff really holds in the heat. In this case, though, It probably IS lava.
That’s cos it is covered by the cheese … in most cases. There are three pizza places in metro Detroit (Buddy’s, Shield’s, and Loui’s) that put on the toppings first, the cheese second, and the sauce last. They all do super deep dish pizza with tons of cheese, and not only is it super fabulous pizza, but you can actually blow on it to cool it off.
Not at all related to the plot, but I think it’s interesting that Doubt didn’t cut her hair to match M. Is that simply a stylistic choice? Or a passive-aggressive attempt to make M feel bad about her new ‘do?
I guess it would be hard to imitate Medusa if she got a pixie cut. OTOH, if she did and she wanted to go fishing, all she would have to do is pluck out a hair and she would have bait.
Well, at first Doubt rather pointedly looked a lot like Monica; but as time has gone on she’s gotten several different appearances and is now pretty distinct. If she thought it would bug Monica she MIGHT get a pixie cut, too, but I suspect she likes using her hair like tendrils too much for that.
(The one of Monica’s demons I’d kind of like to see would be Gluttony. Given the way she can pack it away, that sucker must be HUGE!)
What Doubt didn’t say is that before the ancient law was amended, there were demon PACs out raising money to create propaganda both for and against the measure, and only the demonic anger over the current demon administration’s overspending of the demon budget led to a coalition of demonic lobbyists to push the matter though the demonic congress…
Notice how she went from “That’s the good news” to “Here’s the fun part”? Definitely looking forward to more info on what this “outlet” might be and how it will be exploited until the next crisis arises.
Tomorrow’s strip will be Demons riding the new Mephisto’s Backbone coaster at Six Flags Over My Dead Body, the Underworld’s Premier Place to Have One Hell of a Good Time.
I’m noticing that no one is actually willing to say what happened to the rogue demons. Maybe Phix has them implementing a new cataloging system? They might be thinking, “Eat me! Please!”
Monica’s expression in the second panel is an entirely appropriate response to this news. Of all the things you might *want* to hear a demon to say, this is nowhere near the top of the list.
Uhh… PHIX?!?!? <..> Keeping tabs on Tina isn’t as necessary as ms. Doubt who seems to be a ringleader on her own and apparently got out of any punishments AND got a new allowance????
Well, on the ‘bright’ side, we are most likely about to find out what happened with Tina…
But we’ve already seen lawbreakers. Jin’s demon was breaking the law (hence getting sucked by through the one-way door to the demon world), and then we saw Jin’s Doubt and Monica’s Doubt breaking some rules (hence the head smashing by Tina 2.0). 🙂
Plus, it seems to me that Phix is a law enforcer (hence Tina 2.0 being afraid of her in a big way).
The way Doubt is looking at Monica and the look on Monica’s face, I hope the amendment isn’t something with Monica being their outlet for… “fun.”
That wasn’t Doubt who was set afire.
I think it was. Monica refers to her as “self doubt” here and sets her on fire on the next page.

Beware inner demons bearing gifts .
OK, what politician makes these laws?! Given Demonic tendancies for chaos, any outlet is just asking for trouble not a prevention.
M’s demons actually being helpful by providing useful info? Unheard of. Absurd even. Probably would have been better coming from Phix, who apparently is the author of said amendment or something like that…
Well, she could be lying to mess with Monica’s mind… she is a demon, after all!
Hmmm… “outlet” sounds a little sinister to me…
I agree with this… I think it must have something to do with circumstance or chance… which are never a good thing to rely on.
Ruh Roh, Raggy!
Quick, M! Veto! Veto!!!
oh, Wow man! there’s something waaaay more sinister about doubt when she’s a floaty head with hair tendrils than when she’s rocking her svelte demon body.
“Replaced?”
“The demons in charge of the previous debacle have been sacked…”
The demons responsible for sacking the demos in charge of the previous debacle have been sacked
The Demons, who sacked the demons, who were responsible for the last debacle, have been sacked.
…and they have instead started their own online forum where they exchange pictures from Japanese hentai websites.
jwhouk: OK, I was going to add, “And then they were eaten by Phix”, but you topped that …
What would a severance package for a demon look like?
What would a “severance” package for a demon look like?
txmystic: The severance package? Hmmm… a very sharp executioner’s axe?
Here it is!

Such nepotism. Besides, Ralph can’t hold a candle to Flick, the Wonder Cockroach.
Does this mean Tina’s jaw is just a flesh wound?
Yes–she’s getting better…
An outlet? So they what … plug themselves into the wall socket from time to time? Or are they organizing soccer leagues?
And what is this “replaced” thing? Are there demons in the dugout waiting for their turn at bat? From where do they get replacements? A want ad in the Supernatural Gazette?
Bowling leagues. Hence their interest in the Wapsi crew.
Demons in the Dugout? Is that the sequel to Angels in the Outfield?
must be a pizza place opening in the demon world 🙂
Dietzel! Don’t order Demon Carryout! (Though the crust is hellacious.)
I understand the daily lunch special is wicked good.
But all their food is hell-thy! Do you need a demonstration about it?

It’s a trap!
… Maybe, maybe not. i dunno.
I’m sure it’s something harmless.
Well, Mostly Harmless.
Maybe Jin?
How ’bout Tina?
Maybe the demons get to rotate in and out as part of Tina’s demon team. See what it’s like to be in charge for a change.
Whoa floating head!
Aaaand now I’m expecting it to turn upside down and then slowly fade from view…except for an eerie smile.
Maybe their “outlet” is the Crimson Mantis.
Not at all related to the plot, but I think it’s interesting that Doubt didn’t cut her hair to match M. Is that simply a stylistic choice? Or a passive-aggressive attempt to make M feel bad about her new ‘do?
I tried raising that issue the other day, but nobody bought it. Yours is a good theory, though…
I guess it would be hard to imitate Medusa if she got a pixie cut. OTOH, if she did and she wanted to go fishing, all she would have to do is pluck out a hair and she would have bait.
I don’t think that Monica’s demons normally try to imitate Monica’s looks, however.

Constitutional law never sounded so menacing.
OK, maybe it has.

Notice how she went from “That’s the good news” to “Here’s the fun part”? Definitely looking forward to more info on what this “outlet” might be and how it will be exploited until the next crisis arises.
I’m also wondering if there is any particular reason Monica needs to know about it. I hope picking on Monica isn’t the outlet.
I’m also wondering if Phix’s “relish your ignorance” comment referred to ignorance of the “outlet”.
Tomorrow’s strip will be Demons riding the new Mephisto’s Backbone coaster at Six Flags Over My Dead Body, the Underworld’s Premier Place to Have One Hell of a Good Time.
“Six Flags Over My Dead Body.” I like that.
It’s an old Marsha Warfield punchline.
I’d be interested in knowing who’s who on the other side…
I’m noticing that no one is actually willing to say what happened to the rogue demons. Maybe Phix has them implementing a new cataloging system? They might be thinking, “Eat me! Please!”
@Old Wolf: Other side of what?
Luciano is is reading them the quarterly fiscal report…
Monica’s expression in the second panel is an entirely appropriate response to this news. Of all the things you might *want* to hear a demon to say, this is nowhere near the top of the list.
Is it my imagination, or does Doubt look an awful lot like Tine in that first panel?
Tina, not TinE. I don’t know why but I seem to be getting my vowels transposed lately.
I had that thought, too.
Whatever happened to Shelly’s demon?
She’s waiting in her boiler room for an opportune moment to pounce when it will cause the most chaos.
Not “damage”. Not “evil”. Not “destruction.
Chaos.
I really think Creepy Girl is Chaotic Neutral.
I don’t think Shelly’s merged demon is the same as the girl in the boiler room, but I’m not sure.
Can we have some of whatever that was you just smoked?
But we’ve already seen lawbreakers. Jin’s demon was breaking the law (hence getting sucked by through the one-way door to the demon world), and then we saw Jin’s Doubt and Monica’s Doubt breaking some rules (hence the head smashing by Tina 2.0). 🙂
Plus, it seems to me that Phix is a law enforcer (hence Tina 2.0 being afraid of her in a big way).
All that we’re really missing is a butt portal. 😀
Is Doubt giving Monica HEAD?
