Just goes to illustrate that most fear is in the mind. I seem to recall this isn’t the first time Jin has done something like that, but this is exceptional.
I double dog dare you to go back to the spider cartoon and say ‘for a creature that outmasses it by about ten thousand times, that’s a really amazing fearful reaction.’
Jin’s expression of childlike glee at the success of her joke (and Bud’s expression and body language expressing weary, long-suffering tolerance) are perfect.
I’m not sure how you meant that. Look how the corner of Bud’s mouth is turned up, in case you missed it. I’m reading Bud more as “Brandi will never learn.”
I think Jin gets on Bud’s nerves, but they are still friends, just not real close ones. Bud isn’t nearly as angry at Jin as she used to be. I think she’s trying to help Jin now, for Jin’s sake as well as everyone else’s.
One of my best friends is 5’10” and she never wore heels for the longest time. I took her shoe shopping with me once though, and explained to her how frequently the right pair of heels will make me feel like I can take over the world. After a little arm twisting, she tried on a pair of heels (her first in at least 10 years).
She bought that pair less than 10 minutes later, and she’s been wearing heels since. 🙂 When I give her a hard time about it, she says that I was right. There’s just something about how a good pair of heels will make you stand straighter and walk with more confidence.
Mental image of news reports”… Mysterious hole in roof of Galleria … Massive meteor impact on Moon … Chinese cat gives birth to two-headed puppy … film at eleven …”
I guess no one can tell a scary story like a schizophrenic who sees things that no one else can. 🙂 My former roommate was like that (minus the mental illness). She could tell me scary stories that had me jumping and looking over my shoulder any time her eyes flickered past me. Granted, I’m a pretty big baby when it comes to scary stories. Can’t handle them (though I’m ridiculously intrigued by them).
Not so funny when you’re on the receiving end, but pretty funny to watch.
Thanks…though 9 times out of 10 I asked for it. I’m kind of stupid that way. There isn’t enough money in the world to make me go see most horror flicks (I can think of 6 exceptions to that rule), but I always ended up asking her what the premise and resolution were…which resulted in a play by play of the movie.
This is not the typical movie review site. Instead, it gives all the details of the movie so you can get a pretty good idea if you would want to go to see it or, as in my case, rent it later. Take care, it also tells the endings. Personally, I would rather know than see one that pushes my hot buttons. I’ve never understood people who will just watch anything, regardless of what goes on in them, content wise.
The first one is pretty good, but the second one just seems mean to me.
It sounds like Julie did the smart thing above. She got the effect without having to pay for tickets. Hearing about it, rather than seeing it, was probably the right level of intensity for her.
In their defense in the second one, I don’t believe they expected quite that extreme a reaction. It’s interesting though, how she just curled up rather than run from the house. Maybe some of those horror movies aren’t as far off the mark as we think when the show the victim do just that. In the Japanese horror movies they always fall on their butts and can’t seem to get up. It gets kind of funny when you realize that and watch for it. Butt fall in 5-4-3-2-1 …
I was more annoyed that it was posted. Originally, I assumed that the people who shot it also uploaded it. Now I don’t think so. Also, I was suspicious that perhaps they should have known that the girl was very easily frightened.
I don’t know about the butt fall part, but I think that falling down and not moving is a very realistic response, particularly for children. There is a point at which your brain becomes so overloaded, it can start shutting down. Animals can behave similarly.
As far as the girl is concerned, the girl would assume that the doll somehow got into her bedroom from outside. In her panicked mind, she wouldn’t know what else was out there, so she ran into her parents bedroom and cowered there hoping her parents would save her. As an instinctual thing to do, it made sense.
One thing to keep in mind, although the victim in the second link is referred to as a girl here, she seems to be a young woman. Older teen or better. Also, the “doll”, is not a doll as such, but a faceless, featureless child mannequin (pretty creepy in itself though). It’s only actually shown at the end with the lights on. At the end she even manages an apprehensive smile.
Oh, you are right! I thought that was an older sister or something. I’m a little surprised a girl that old would be so frightened and not calm down quicker. Also, I don’t understand how she could be so panicked, but not be angry later, especially when they kept filming her. If she was OK with it in the end, though, then oh, well…
The first video didn’t bother me at all. The girl in that one started laughing right after the scare.
Nope…still won’t watch. I freaked out and hid under a blanket for the ending of the original Stepford Wives movie. Mannequins are just as creepy as dolls if not worse.
Actually, there isn’t any doll in the first video. I’ve been avoiding saying what is there to let people find out.
SPOILER ALERT
The first one is just a video of a teenage girl playing and reacting to the Scary Maze Game. That is a flash “game” in which you are told that you are supposed to move a box through a maze, but a closeup of a publicity picture (I think) for The Exorcist, with Linda Blair in makeup, eventually pops up with a loud, high pitched, screeching sound. It’s just a gag designed to startle the player. If you want to see a small version of the picture that the closeup is taken from, you can search myspace for “mazegame”. The account uses the picture for the “photo”.
If you want to play the game, you can click on the link above, but I’m suspecting that you won’t want to do that, either. 🙂
I hate to creep you out now, but you will probably have more opportunities to be creeped out by the life-like robots that are being developed. For whatever reason, the ones that are more child-like bother me the most. The second of the videos had that sort of mannequin.
@eschmenk: I’m glad you think what I did was smart. I question it every time I ask for the story behind the scary movie.
@SoWhyMe: I think I will have to start checking that movie spoiler site for scary movie run downs. I almost never end up watching any of them, so spoilers are fine by me. 🙂 Thanks for the tip!
I know what you mean about reading the story sometimes pushing your buttons. I can’t tell you how many scary stories I’ve tried to read (occasionally succeeded) only to end up sleeping with the lights on and buried under blankets with only the smallest of holes for fresh air. 🙂
I’ll have to check that new link when I get home (office doesn’t allow YouTube).
I read the book to Jurassic Park before watching the film. The film wasn’t scary at all but the book had me looking around corners for days (if not weeks) just in case.
So, even after thousands of years of invulnerability and indestructibility, Brandi can still fall prey to a ‘ghost stories around the campfire’ GOTCHA! That old, reptile brain fight or flight syndrome is just hardwired in.
What kind of expression do the other mall patrons have? “That black chick just flipped out! She must do that a lot, her friends don’t seem too bothered.”
Right. I think it’s still the same. Brandi also was acting as if there weren’t people around, at least until Jin got her to forget that the one Jin was talking about wasn’t real. Still, even without any people around, it looks like Brandi might make quite an impact. 🙂
I could imagine her shaking the building pretty good when she hits the floor, actually.
The staff will definitely be perturbed when they’re cleaning a human shaped print off the glass much higher than someone should have been able to reach by jumping…
Um, I’m thinking that you might do better to step aside and let her hit. Then you can act like a gentleman and offer to help her to her feet. I don’t know if she ways any more than a normal person, but you are going to get the full effect of the impact, not her.
for an Indestructible Golem that is a really amazing fearful reaction.

Ooh Touche.
What’s left to fear, but the unknown?
One tends to forget that the GGs were (by our culture’s standards) still not quite “adults” when they were killed and transformed.
Jin’s expression of childlike glee at the success of her joke (and Bud’s expression and body language expressing weary, long-suffering tolerance) are perfect.
I agree; absolutely perfect.
Yup, lovin Bud’s look.
Lovin the whole sequence, especially Brandi’s “BWAAAUUGH!” and loss of shoes…That’s unforutnately how I react to Yellow Jackets…
I was thinking, “WTF? They may be geeks, but the’re not that bad!” They can be pretty mean to UGA grads, though.
Me too, or any buzzy insect.
+1 (There aren’t any strange looks coming my way because of a sudden, explosive laugh, nosirree!)
Jin: Woooo!! Look at her GO!!
Bud: Ugh, you are SUCH an ass.
Ah, I did indeed miss that.
What good is one’s psychosis if you can’t have a little fun with it?
No doubt . Heheheh .
Wow. Tall as Brandi is and she wears that much heel?
Get the mountaineering gear!
Seems like tall women always dress to accentuate their height. Not that I’m complaining, mind.
She must like the way her legs look in them.
One of my best friends is 5’10” and she never wore heels for the longest time. I take it that Brandi has watched too many zombie films.
rofl
Hah, wonderful. Nice to see that, at least, Jin is able to keep from going turbo emoz because of her problems.
HAHAHAHA!!! That was awesome!!!
Good one Jin. XD
That was epic. 😀
Oh, Jin, that was just evil! LOL
And then, there was the boy who cried “Wolf!”
Bahahahaha!
Children, Children, play nice.
Well played crazy lady, well played…
My thoughts exactly
Awsome!
And we have liftoff!
Mental image of news reports”… Mysterious hole in roof of Galleria … Massive meteor impact on Moon … Chinese cat gives birth to two-headed puppy … film at eleven …”
Can you help me? I’m looking for Waspi Square. I don’t know how I ended up at Cape Kennedy.
Scaring a being that could make a reasonable attempt at wiping all life from the planet – maybe not a good idea 🙂
Brandi is really the most controlled and calm of the three, when you think about it.
Yes, but when emotionally charged she can lose it too…
But she didn’t cause anyone any permanent damage, even then.
Heheheh . It’s good to see Jin find some humor in her situation .
Brilliant.
Great way to top off the Week, Jin. Now go peel Brandi off the wallpaper.

Aaaand now I’m glad I haven’t gone to any of the links you posted. 🙂 Scary dolls are in the top five on my “I can’t handle this” list.

You’re welcome. The only problem for me is that even reading the description can push my buttons. Sill, it’s better than seeing it in all it’s gory.
And here’s something cute to make up for it all. Marcell the shell:

Now, Paul, did you have to go and do that? 😉
Oh, Jin … you evil Golem.
BUT IT WAS SOOOOO FUNNY!
Cool One, Jin.
Wow, I would be legitimately surprised if Jin didn’t jump clear out of her clothes based on that one.
Jin was telling the story. Brandi was the one doing the jumping.
Ok, yesterday’s super-cute Jin has been topped by today’s super-cute Jin in the last panel.
=^_^=
Cute except for what looks like a mouthful of razor edged tooth shards.
The expressions are so marvelous…
So, even after thousands of years of invulnerability and indestructibility, Brandi can still fall prey to a ‘ghost stories around the campfire’ GOTCHA! That old, reptile brain fight or flight syndrome is just hardwired in.
*collapses on floor LMAO*
What kind of expression do the other mall patrons have? “That black chick just flipped out! She must do that a lot, her friends don’t seem too bothered.”
Bud said they were alone. I’m assuming they still are. The staff, however might be a bit perturbed

Classic!
I’ll catch you Brandi!!!
Um, I’m thinking that you might do better to step aside and let her hit. Then you can act like a gentleman and offer to help her to her feet. I don’t know if she ways any more than a normal person, but you are going to get the full effect of the impact, not her.
ugh! “weighs” not “ways”. Why does my brain do that?
Can we count the ways?
I gnu you would weigh in on that.
Weight! You better stop before this gets out of hand.
Well, if you gotta go, go with a SMILE!!!
This kinda reminds me of a Halloween game I played when I was a kid…it was called-He’s Behind You!
For me it would work out better if it were she’s behind you.
HAAAA HA HA HA HA HAAAAA! 😀
Jin should buy a copy of the old video game Silent Hill 2 and play it in front of Brandi 🙂
That was so mean (yet so hilarious!)
Jin’s face in the last panel is horrifyingly gleeful
Jin is as friggen adorable as I’ve ever ever seen her in that last panel… hilarious.
Just like sisters…. Well, 8000 years of friendship will do that…
12,000. Farkle.
