Monica’s like Dolly Parton. They could shave there heads and still not be mistaken for Dykes. Take that personal Demon!

Mel Tillis was on some TV show – “Tonight”, with Carson, i feel like.

He looked out into the audience and said “Wow! Dolly Parton’s here!”

He waited a beat for everyone to start looking around, and then said “Wait – no – I’m sorry – it’s two bald guys sitting next to each other…”

Hey everyone. Been lurking around reading the comic every weekday for about two years. Thought it was about time to start commenting. XD

Not sure I know how I feel about Monica’s new do. But it’s probably the drastic way it’s altered her character design.
But hey, if she’s happy, I’m happy!! Go Monica!!

    Go Monica! Go Paul! 😀

Geez, why does it have to be such a big flipping deal that she cut all of her hair off after what she’s been through? I went through a nasty dissolution of a group living situation and I found it a positively ecstatic change to lop off all the hair with which I’d carried around all the pain and heartache of the past year.

It was liberating. It can make a person giddy. There is NOTHING wrong with it!

The country singer Crystal Gayle had to cut her hair on Doctors orders. She was in danger of a spinal injury to her neck. It was like having a 10 lbs weight on the back of her head. Imagine the mass of a bag of sugar or flour pulling on your head!

I’ve cut my hair off at the end of a bad relationship, at the end of a school year, and once, a very dramatic short cut after a disastrous perm. Unless Kev has been dating Amish or Mennonite girls, he ought to be cool with the cut especially since Monica has been through a few other life upheavals; it is a perfectly normal time for her to go “okay, time for a change, cut the hair.” Hells, at least she didn’t dye it rainbow colours and get a mohawk like my friend Pete did for a year!

Whats up with guys shaving there heads? Don’t they realize that their hair will probable decide it’s not wanted! This is my pet theory for baldness.

Speaking for myself, it was my hair not wanting me:*(

I know that feeling. So I figured, “Ah, hell with my hair. I’ll fire it before it quits!”

Indeed…I wonder, if the comments forum had been set up when Shelly first cut her hair, whether the debate would have been more or less heated. It seems like she had both social and cultural reasons not to cut it off…not to mention the violent scared little girl in the boiler room to deal with…

That’s the way to do it. Show those inner demons, that you are no longer intimidated by them. You are no longer their prisoner, no longer their puppet to be insulted or be embarrassed by. Nothing can hold you back now. 😉

Careful what you wish for. The demons serve a good purpose as well as bad. Without them we would be too fearless and too quick to jump in with both feet when caution is warranted, for example.

Doubt uses self consciousness, it is not very effective.

Monica uses bowling ball, it is super effective!

Doubt is unable to continue the battle.

    Monica wins!

You know, the thing that I find most amusing about this response to Monica’s haircut is the fact that Kevin’s a guy. He’s out of town for weeks, he gets back with one thing on his mind, and do you think he’s going to notice herhair?

    • geekoncall
      August 28, 2010, 5:12 pm | # | Reply

EXACTLY! If I had a girlfriend who look like Monica, the last thing I would be concerned about her reducing is her HAIR!

Well, as big of a deal as she is making about her hair, he had better notice, or the rest of her might wind up being off limits.

Seriously, one reason Monica likes him is that he does notice more than what geekoncall is suggesting. The same would go for the hair, of course.

Okay, folks – check this out.

Other people notice the cyclic nature of reality, too – just on a shorter-term basis.

Man, all the commentary over one haircut makes Samson’s haircut (and subsequent eye-gouging) seem almost paltry. Protein shafts growing from specialized cells in a part of the body coincident with the brain and its armor have been reduced in length. The observer modules note this, and begin analyzing the cosmic and social ramifications of such a change in status. Precedent dictates that this change in state is unprecedented, and therefore it must be analyzed until a final exhaustive analysis can be presented, complete and without any possibility of second-guessing. Various initial assumptions are entered into the analytical matrix and modeled to observe how they moderate the final outcome.

We still await the ultimate analysis – processing continues. Tentative conclusion: “Monica looks bitchin’, but may require personal counseling for possible erratic behavior and future social disruptions.”

Thanks, Pablo – I haven’t had this much fun over something so inconsequential in years!

All other commentary notwithstanding…I actually really hate her hair this way. She does look like somebody’s mom- if that’s her idea of ‘pixie’, I’d hate to see what a ‘mountain hag’ would look like.

I like long hair as much as the next guy….probably a little too much since mine is also long…but I think Monica’s adorable with the new do. :3

Gah! So much flack over a haircut! And I agree, Kevin can handle it. He’s proven himself to be made of sterner stuff than that.

Hell, with as long as it’s been since we’ve seen him, he might appear with a ponytail…
