This visit is where I really started liking Phix’ character. She really has no stake in what’s happening, she genuinely wants to help, and she can. I don’t think she even feels the need to “atone for her past.” She’s just… her.
It has been explicitly stated that “each time is different”. It would therefore be a reasonable assumption, that most of the books differ, at least partially, from rewind to rewind.
though it has been explicitly stated that Phix is outside the time loop and has seen the reset happen 56 times, so while she lives through each loop as it happens she is specifically not reset.
This is true, but it still means that Phix gets new books with each new and different loop. And since she’s outside time, she retains all of the books from the past loops.
Bud once stated how powerful they really were. I’m not going to say what she said because I can’t remember if it happened before or after this point of the story (and I don’t want to give spoilers).
but I’m STILL gonna close the cover over it…
Hmm… I remember a quote from JFK about that; except it was too High to push the button, not drunk.

But she is one of those reliving the same time over and over again.. she might be longing for new books instead of getting more copies of old ones 😉

Laughs from the future
Does anybody but me find it disconcerting that there may just be a big red button that could blow up a solar system?
Sure, she’s most likely being metaphorical, but still…

there was a mention before, something like “i could vaporise the earth, and the resulting shock wave would snuff out the sun”

and that’s just Bud. Jin, Bud, and Brandi together should be even more dangerous….
I admit, I would quite like to discover Dietzel is analogous to the Ruler of the Universe in H2G2.
