I seem to remember Paul saying that her personality has become the control aspect of the Blackthorn. in other words, the Blackthorn is her and not a part of her.
That matches what she’s been saying when trying to explain it to others.
Makes sense. Blackthorn, whatever else it is, ancient, powerful, etc… it’s fundamentally a plant; I doubt it had much personality, and it’s intellect was, at best, completely alien to our own concepts of what makes a “mind”.
Splitting of a portion of itself and letting human scientists splice it with human DNA to form Castela allowed a very human-like personality to develop.
Now the Blackthorn has a personality (and a well-rounded “human” life)… and that is Castela.
The Blackthorn thought the idea of creating Castela “amusing”. That suggests that it’s more aware of cause and effect than most plants. But again, this is about how Cass feels.
We don’t know how aware of cause and effect most plans are, but we do know that they communicate and react to other plants being harmed in their vicinity.
So far, especially when you consider the role Kath plays in Cassie’s upbringing, I’d say she’s growing up being well-grounded in reality; she’s got a firm enough grasp on reality that, if the universe goes boom, it wouldn’t have been Cass to do it.
I wonder if she could put ‘seals’ on herself like Alucard from Helsing. So she couldn’t just go full bore, she’d have to deliberately choose to ramp up her power
You know… it’s things like that last panel that make me increasingly think something is up with Kath. That she’s something beyond the mortal body herself.
Hm. I mean, her “not wanting to” is a major part here… She’s got pinpoint control when she gets freaked out. She’s not giving herself enough credit, for certain.
Then again, she did open a door to show boat her ability to block off an ancient eldritch being…
Castela probably told Katherine. Katherine would probably have known about Leucoisa either way, but she wouldn’t have brought it up is Castela didn’t tell her.
Was that a variation of ” I dont care how big and bad you are, I’m still your mother and If I have to get on a chair and use a frying pan to beat your ass YOU WILL listen to me” speech?
THAT sounds about right.
I seem to remember Granny (from the ‘Beverly Hillbillies’) Ellie May, Jed, and Jethro were all terrified of her anger.
There did not appear to be any physical reason for their fear and any other reasons were always something that ‘happened’ off screen (usually to whomever didn’t fear her)
Yes, it was. Although I think Katherine’s VOICE OF MOM will be more than sufficient to chastise Castela amongst the shards of reality within the multiversal void.
I’m betting that the rest of the Blackthorn might step in if she got too “high-spirited”. Doesn’t make it easier to live with.

“We can only be the person that we are.” Deanna Troi
Good thing she didn’t develop this skill set until she had her temper relatively under control.
A possibility that that was by design, the rest of the blackthorn keeping certain things from her younger self?
If there’s any ground left, anywhere, on which to be grounded. and enough of space-time remaining to make “a month” meaningful.
Does not matter. Kath has the VOICE of MOM. So if she tells Cass she is grounded for a month, guess what happens.
Kath’s voice is grounded in Kath’s love for her daughter – something which Cassie knows is present with the voice.

I suspected Leucoisa was under 30 when she passed. Old enough to be a Mostly-Cautious Parent, but Young enough to be a bit… high-spirited.

Speaking as a mom? No that’s totally a mom threat “I don’t care if I am dead I will ground you for a month if you….”

True. But if she *didn’t* worry about things like that, there would be Concern.
How does Katherine know about “Leucosia”? I mean, did Castela tell Katherine about her?
My guess is that immediately after Cass asked “Did you know about Atsali’s parents?” and hugging it out, there was a “Now, how do you?” conversation.
Castela probably told Katherine. Katherine would probably have known about Leucoisa either way, but she wouldn’t have brought it up is Castela didn’t tell her.
