The Jin-O-Vision is rather interesting here. It is quite obvious that the faces represent Bud and May, but how much of what she’s seeing is some next layer of reality picture of them, and how much is simply colored by her experiences? Will I ever learn to ask questions that can actually be answered?
Her mom has a consistent curvy floral motif; Jin may really be seeing something related to reality. I’m not sure what she’s picking up from Bud, who’s more angular, although that could be a stylized goat.
Look at May’s eyes in the last panel… Something Is Wrong… and not just with Jin, either she got the access panel opened and saw the trouble, and they may not be able to hook the Relic up, or more likely, due to the Jin-O-Vision in panel 2, i’ll bet that May was wrong about her not putting up a fight… and that Jin’s gonna’ put up a BIG Fight, and Bud is the one she’s aiming for…
For a moment I thought it was the face light they do, but that’s not Jin’s glyph letter (which is an omega or inverted U, with a \ added). See here for their glyphs. So I think it’s just dramatic.
Only consolidation I have is, might Jin freak, we’ve got 2 galaxy-crushing strength golems here to hold her down.
For the rest of it, the fear in Jin’s eyes is really sad. Her world is now filled with nightmarish hallucinations/warped visions of reality. A bit like a “bad trip” someone once described to me…. 🙁
I don’t think we’ve ever seen how strong Maya is. Immortal and indestructible, yes, she’s a golem after all. But it would appear what made Jin, Brandi, and Bud the ludicrously powerful beings they are now was the priests harnessing all the rage, hate, despair, and terror weeks of torture had generated in them and turning it into energy. Since Maya didn’t – so far as we know – go through the same, she might be no stronger than a normal golem.
the torture was to break their willpower… to make them controllable, compliant, and obedient to their “Master’s” orders… the Golem-ization process gave them the power though.
unlike May who still had her own free-will, she just up and walked off with the Calender Machine, and you bet those priests were trying to stop her from doing so, yet she still succeeded… therefore, i think that May has every bit of power that the girls have.
For me, this is freakily like what I sometimes see peripherally when I have a migraine headache. Whenever it gets frontal, I can’t see clearly either. Does she have a psychic migraine?
I sometimes have what have to be painless migraines (they do exist), which start with a small sparkling region in my vision – which at first is not-quite-perceptible which gradually grows until it obscures most of my vision, then fades out.
The most annoying thing is that it appears slightly “off center”, and my eyes try to track it – which doesn’t work, of course – but it seems to be crawling all over the place…
Assuming this works, is Jin going to be angry at May/Bud once she realizes they worsened the condition by bringing the power source so close to her, even though it was necessary to fix her problem? this seems like one of those murky ethical issues as to how far one has to hurt someone in order to heal them, methinks…
It’s gonna be Extreme Operation, isn’t it? The whole planet’s well-being hinges on removing the Wrenched Ankle or Bread Basket piece without touching the sides.
He’s not. Pits have a shorter snout. Dietzel’s an English Bull Terrier, a notably Roman-nosed breed. And yes, that’s an English Bull laughing at the camera.
Paul the suspense is killing me now. You have truly mastered the suspense writing skill-set.
I’m scared this will end eith Jin dying or something..
not physically dying but …
Now you have me wondering. If Jin did physically die somehow, would the indestructable Golem body decay?
You just know whats going to happen…two more comics to drag it out to the Friday cliffhanger…
seriously, it feels like it’s dragging along there just isn’t anything happening on these panels.
Everything is happening.
Eeep! With this as the setup, what wonders await?!?
Those “faces” are so creepy.

Are any of these rhetorical questions? Including this one?

Yea
the bud face looks kinda scarey
the may face looks like daisies.
Goats have horizontal (i think) slit pupils…
Yes they do. I picked up consciously on the projections like goat ears, but that’s a good point. Neither one of these seems evident in Monday’s strip.

Oh, that’s a scary thought.
As if this wasn’t scary enough already.
I think it is more along the lines of a mother being afraid for her daughter.
But yah, I love how Paul communicates that to the audience and how Bud punctuates it with her comment.
I like the lighting effect across Jin’s eyes in Panel One.
i think its the “facelight” right before the golemgirls use there powers ……. oO
nah its just wear the light is
see the shadows on the floor next to her
its akin to a cat lying in a sunbeam 🙂
OR does May see that inside Jins eyes?

Well. This is nerve racking. 🙁
Poor thing. Hope May and Bud can help her.
Some info on this, “A 20th-century artist, Louis Wain, who was fascinated by cats, painted these pictures over a period of time in which he developed schizophrenia. The pictures mark progressive stages in the illness and exemplify what it does to the victim’s perception.” http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-mhD5gqIiIJg/TiXZiyEK0rI/AAAAAAAABDs/bxanA3r0JAE/s1600/tumblr_lbmha5698S1qa0uujo1_500.jpg
I am impressed with the Mandelbrot cat in the third panel.
The cat in the fourth panel looks like Bud in Jinvision, both days.
And it reminds me of Hindu religious art.
Which makes me wonder about the origins of that.
Oh. So that’s where the Cheshire Cat came from.
I just hope the look on May’s face is the severity of the situation setting in and not “Oh crap this is gonna turn ugly”

*bzzzt*
Butter-fingers.
It makes me sad to see Jin, who’s already sacrificed an enormous amount over millenia, be in such bad shape. I really hope May can fix her.
Off-topic, but does this look like Dietzel to you?
Yeperdoodle! =D
ou knopw I never thought of Dietzel being a pitbull but that shot looks like he is.
Yes my fingers don’t work correctly all of the time. darn typos
He’s not. Pits have a shorter snout. Dietzel’s an English Bull Terrier, a notably Roman-nosed breed. And yes, that’s an English Bull laughing at the camera.
I’ve always thought that Patrick Stewart resembled a bull terrier a little bit.
Wow! Look at those auras. Mayahuel is Maluma, Bud is Takete – there’s serious feelings behind those perceptions. Love the work, as always! <3
Kind of looks like Bud has some big time repressed emotions or Jin has some repressed hostility towards Bud. Just sweetness and light towards mom.
