    “Sooooooo . . . I have to . . . slice a tree . . . or something?”

      Yes! It’s pinata tree!

Now. Does she slice it horizontally, vertically, or diagonally? Horizontally seems like the normal way, but vertically might open a doorway into the tree.

She’s probably been waiting for this moment for a hundred or thousand or more years, and now Shelly is /doing it wrong/!

It’s like in Shrek when the princess is upset because he didn’t slay the dragon and wake her with a proper princely kiss. Some things are all about the pageantry of the thing!

      Yknow

Once I asked someone (who was choaking) if they wanted a glass of water.
They replied “YES” and my brain translated that as “no” so I didnt.
15 seconds after my inaction someone asked the same question and was able to give the poor girl the water she desired.

There are moments (under duress or cuz it just likes to mess with you) that the brain just refuses to work 😀

See this is my problem here, So, if she slices open the tree, does she receive the fix for the broken golem or the cure to toenail fungus? It would be some much better if the sphinx was to explain the benefit of slicing the tree and how to slice the tree in the least damaging way to receive the benefit that to let her go slicing all willy nilly on the sacred tree.

      May 10, 2011, 1:37 am | # | Reply

That would totally give away the plot and Paul never does that. He loves little twists and turns so you never quiet know what to expect. I can be confusing, maddening, irritating (especially on Fridays), and even down right aggravating. But this is the way it is so just sit back and enjoy it.

Hmm what is the word for cutting trees?
Topiatry? or is that just hedge trimming?

With 4 feet that would be needed 😀

It’s possible the Sphinx doesn’t know what will happen, that nobody’s ever gotten this far before or it’s different for everyone. Then too, given her current level of irritation, I suspect she really doesn’t want to talk to Shelly more right now, she just wants her to cut the tree so they can go on to the next step. She might growl directions if shelly can’t decide exactly how to do it, but rational prolonged discussion may be beyond her at the moment…

wait? really? gotta ask my friend about that one. she’s a straight up buffy fan and has all the dvd’s.

quick: angel vs spike. who would win
the buffy fan friend of mine says spike, but another friend of mine is fan of the spin-off angel and thinks angels would win. and i’m stuck between them T.T

      • Danzier
        May 10, 2011, 10:45 pm | #

Well, when I write it, they end up needing to team up halfway through the fight and then Spike doesn’t survive, letting Angel win by default while hitting up all the gooy psychobabble and ultimately feeling redefined.

        But that’s just me. 🙂

      • SoWhyMe
        May 10, 2011, 10:54 pm | #

Look, it’s simple. If they fought at the time the shows were on the air, Angel would win because he has a TV series and Spike doesn’t.

      • Danzier
        May 10, 2011, 11:43 pm | #

      • Paula
        May 11, 2011, 1:50 am | #

        Depends

If its Spike and Angel then Spike for sure.
If its Spike and Angelus then Angelus.

Angel is the more evil/dangerous out of the two but having a soul keeps him subdued 🙂
Spike choosing the good side makes him more able to tap into his evil side at will hence beating Angel but he would be creamed against Angelus 🙂

(then again i stopped watcing Buffy just after she and spike started the affair and stopped watching Angel just after Faith turned herself in so the characters could have altered quite abit in the timeline since i last saw them)

Yeah, the explanation is choice. 🙂 Of course, while there weren’t enough panels to illustrate this, I’m imagining a full hand gesture/pantomime of each word or phrase in that sentence…because that level of “I’m talking to Stupid” is awesome.

Depends on the box – a proper toolbox isn’t just a jumble. Some are fitted with trays and shaped recesses for sharp tools, some have pocketed canvas rolls with chisels and such tucked into the pockets and rolled up inside, and so forth. (I used to own a business that custom-built carpenter toolboxes …)

On the other hand, Shelly has been there before, thus the sphinx’s surprise she wasn’t following the script this time. Must remember this time is different from all the other times in that the CM is gone sooner than before and her “mission” is to fix Jin. Previously she would not likely have been there on that mission. The fact the CM is gone may have something to do with her “forgetfulness” as well.

Unless she is there in reality (reality being a term used loosely here), all she did was drop it in the netherworld. Otherwise she is actually standing in Monica’s house still holding it. It could also be, that once you are there, dropping it means nothing and you have to click your heels 3 times to get back. Then again, once she gets inside of the tree, she may emerge in Monica’s kitchen.

Of course, it may also be we will next see her standing in Monica’s house, coming out of her trance. This would be disappointing but par for the course. Tomorrow will tell.

    hi hi

Ok, everyone is looking at this in a very two dimensional way. Frankly, I think Shelly’s hesitance does her credit. She has no idea what the consequences of cutting or not cutting said tree will be. If I were in that kind of position, I would be looking for alternatives. Leave and come back with more information would be high on the list.

    • Julie
      May 10, 2011, 1:13 pm | # | Reply

I’m not entirely convinced that Shelly has rubbed the braincells together to spark that deep of a thought. She’s been reacting in confusion and fear so far (and now with a smidge of anger). If she’d asked why the tree should or shouldn’t be cut, then I’d agree that she was behaving with caution in case cutting the tree was a bad idea.

      • IceKatze
        May 10, 2011, 3:32 pm | #

        hi hi

She does say that she’s trying to help someone, and implies that she isn’t trying to play some kind of a game. Tree cutting, one way or another, doesn’t fit into the frame of helping anyone at the moment.

puh. Dont know, maybe around 1.75m. I would guess it depends on what kind of sphinx she is and how high her rank is. But as long our Sphinx does not enter sphix territory i would guess they treat each other “friendly but distanced”.

I would be more worried about her reaction to nudge or or the demon inc./Tina

That sphix looks older might be a decision of sphix because humans associate often age with wisdom. To appear wise certainly help if you work in the library.

I have a notorious low treshold for the willfully slow-witted.
I cannot imagine Shelly is that dense..her denseness defies the normal laws of nature.

If she were a smitten denser, the universe would implode on her.
