Tina’s back in her choker and all’s right with the world.

Waiter: “Please take off your hat while in the restaurant, sir.”
      Arthur: “No.”
Waiter: “Why won’t you take off your hat?”
      Arthur: “Because it’s my hat.”
Waiter: “Why won’t he take off his hat?”
Dede: “Because it’s not a hat. It’s a symbol. If he takes it off, he’ll have an identity crisis.”

And some of us are so used to it we won’t know what to do with ourselves when we retire.

My dad’s that way. He’s 68, and I’m convinced he will get up from the grave to go to work.

Yeah , I get what you mean. I take time off from work ocasionally ( I have one of those jobs where we don’t get public holidays off ) and end up getting bored or sleeping. I *really* need to get me a social life. lol

I have so many projects I’ve put on hold due to having to spend my time working that I’m looking forward to retirement.

I’ve been retired for 16 years, and sold the house a year ago, and moved into an apartment. Both great decisions. I’m now living the way I always wanted to.

My father retired a few years early. Turned out retirement meant he had even less free time…

You don’t just sit at home, Tina.

You do something, like writing a short story for starters.

    Or visit Punk Yoga…

She could walk to Norway, where they have many nice mooses. Or Paraguay where they have many nice llamas.
Or go to a museum of mooses and llamas.

Yeah, this was basically me for a long while after I graduated. Seriously, you spend 8+ hours of most of your life dedicated to basically the same thing and suddenly it’s over and you suddenly don’t know what to do with yourself.

Wow, according to the tag system in the archives, we haven’t seen Becky since… 2002!
Quite a difference in the art style, over 15 years later.

Poops bad post. The tags are not complete. Becky had been in quite a few strips over the years.

Tina’s body was 36 at that point.
        Now it is 50s.
There seem to have been more timeskips than i had noticed.

      • BarerMender
        January 6, 2018, 12:27 am | #

Or your equating her body’s age with the character’s age. Remember, the body is dead.

      • J4n1
        January 6, 2018, 5:48 am | #

No, just pointing realising that 14+ years has gone between the story i linked to, and the story happening now, in the comic.

@BarerMender: Not sure about that. From what I remember Original Tina died after the accident but was revived. Problem was the soul, ghost, spirit, consciousness whatever it was that made Tina Tina had fled the field while her demons had their backs turned. So now there was this body with a heartbeat but lacking a driver just idling on the gurney, and that’s when the demons took for a test drive.

So technically I think the body is alive, though given the supernatural healing rate I have no idea what that means for aging. It might be aging faster as it burns through “life” at a higher than “natural” rate, or it might be aging slower being bathed in whatever power causes the increased healing rate.

Tina died when Monica was 14. She was in the morgue. Dead, dead, dead, as has been mentioned several times in the story. And since she was a psychologist or psychiatrist–I forget–we can assume she was no spring chicken then. So the demons are occupying a DEAD 36-year-old body.

One of purposes of delegation and retirement is to give a being time to do whatever she or he really wants to do. But what if that goal is to own and run the best coffee shop in the Twin Cities?

I’m sure there are aspects that Tina’s happy to delegate — opening as an example. But all of it?

“The one thing you cannot trade for your heart’s desire is your heart,” spoken by Miles Vorkosigan, in the novel Memory, by Lois McMaster Bujold.

    Just a thought…

Epiphany: Serving Coffee is NOT what you do!
Next Epiphany: You do not have to do it in any particular LOCATION.
Consulting Work – you can make house call on your client base and work with whoever is in front of you. If you need more structure then that, maybe Gryphon High needs a Councilor [Pickle Does.]

The only times that I can recall Tina consulting outside of food and drink are with Heather, and with Georgette and Monica, and at the end of that one, Tina was telling Monica to kill Tina (and fortunately, Monica didn’t follow through)!

Why is Becky attempting to force Tina into early retirement? o_O

    • J4n1
      January 5, 2018, 11:23 am | # | Reply

Because she wants her to take more time for herself.
Also not retirement, just less work, a well meaning, but possibly misguided gesture.

Tina should look into using her ability to read auras for things other than finding the perfect cup of coffee.

I’m very much hoping that Tina doesn’t focus too much on what she should do.

Rather, I really hope we see her decide to explore what she can be – actively working to continue to become a unified being (a true coven, rather like Conscience). Tina 3.0, as it were.

Phix certainly implied that this was possible, and Bia’s meddling (or “helping”) seems to have been intended to be a push in that direction.

A phone would suffice to keep her occupied. I have less time lately than I did before retirement. Cookie Crush, y’know. I’m only on level 541.

No, she has one, the Mucha Mocha, it’s Becky who feels she should have a different one, and still trying to figure out her angle: if Tina is happy to spend all her time at work, why force her to be miserable? o_O

What were I a cartoon. I’d happily keep Tina company while she sorted things out…
