A biography of him I have says he was born August 10th, 1909, in a barn on the corner of Harbor Boulevard and La Palma Avenue in Fullerton, Orange County, California.
Considering the type of power sources that the Lanthians were know to (ab)use, I have a feeling that her amp wouldn’t have to be big (or even visible) in order to be impressive.
It wouldn’t just toss the musician across the room, as happened to Marty. It would blast the entire audience halfway across the continent in a ball of fire!
Aside from being totally smitten with Phix, I *love* the fact that Paul has graced us with an accurate rendition of a Fender Precision bass, right down to the split pickups.
Per the comments about a 15′ bass: Phix can alter the size of her sphinx form at will, as can Shelly. In several instances they are shown to be different sizes at different times compared to other characters. So it could just be a normal bass. As to the “Lanthian punk”: it has already been established that Phix wasn’t actually confined to the library. Shelly’s father is her son. She clearly got out from time to time. She could very well have experienced the punk era like everyone else.
Okay, the Phix parallel isn’t perfect, but watching Aimee Mann playing a Fender Precision bass makes me understand the attraction: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kbX2jAgQOgY
Was Phix a Lanthan hippie?
More like punk rocker.
Phix rox!
They had electric guitars in Lanthis?
Of course they did, Phix is sitting there with a bass guitar! 😀
Well, of course, Didn’t you know that Leo Fender was Lanthian?
Yep, this is indeed canon. Fender was Lanthian and also invented electric basses up to 15′ in length. =)
Basso profundo without a doubt!
…Now THAT would be an E-string from HELL.
Holy crap. To tune a 15′ bass you’d need to hook the strings up to a pickup truck.

That’s just a cover story given by MIB.
All bass and no amp makes Phix a quiet Sphinx.

Wonders if all Sphinxes play bass of some sort, seeing as how Shelly is a bass player as well…
Until I read the underpost, I thought it =was= Shel. 🙂
Obviously an inherited characteristic in Sphinxes.
This one totally should have been named ‘Metal as Fuck’
Metal as FUK, apparently
huh.. i read it as FK U…
but that works toooo..
Sooo…all sphinxes are bass players…or…all bass players are sphinxes?
BTW love the FK U button!
I love this portrayal of Phix!
Dang! ‘Regular’ Phix is hot, ‘Punk Cub’ Phix is just as hot!!
Phix never told us she was once (and maybe still is) a rock star! Lead axe player of the band, MYTHOLOGICAL MADNESS! YOU GO, GIRL!!!

Ah! So it’s a Fender(like) Jazz Bass. Was wondering about that from the last pic of Phix and a bass.
I wonder if they could make a 12·string bass that big 🤔
