I give him a 50/50 chance to survive the tour, assuming his ticker is still in pretty good shape — no odds on later though. Should he ever win the lottery he’ll probably be like “Meh, still not as good as when Phix said hello….” — and she does look amazing just saying hello.
Wow. Not the subject, but the art. That is one of the best uses of eye-level from the reader’s POV I have seen. Very subtle, very effective. Paul, you are good at this.
That second panel definitely seems to be from Greg’s point of view, which would explain why M doesn’t appear to have a chest and is otherwise fading into the background. 🙂
Paul, Paul, Paul, Paul – whenever opporknockity tunes, be in tune with it. Seize the moment! Seize the credit. Serendipity! Smile and say, “Yeah, it’s a sort of visual pun; do you like it?” And everyone will go away happy, while you carefully make a mental note not to do that again. Or to add the trick to your palate, as the notion strikes you.
And on the subject of visual puns, is that why Phix has a tie in the second frame, and not the first?
Hmm, She had a ties in her first frontal shot, then it is inconclusive if she has it in a side view, but the partial side/front view in the first panels of THIS comic is very conclusive the tie seems to be missing, but re-appears in panel two. I wonder if that was an error or just a bad set up for a tie-in/tie-out pun.
The POV in the first panel was just incredible – Phix is so tall you can see UNDER her chin, and yet those wide, and wise eyes are just gleaming down at you.
I want to agree with redbeard above – there will be few moments in Gregory’s life that will be a fantastic as Phix just saying hello. I know he’s thinking to himself, “Now THIS is why I became a museum director!”
And maybe her look is more of a “”won’t you come into my parlor?” said the spider to the fly.” kinda gaze. Hmm. Remember that old saying, “Never trust a smiling cat.”?
A question just came to me when I was looking at the comic again, today. Should it not be Dr. Gregory Fields, PhD? It would just strike me as odd that the curator would not have a doctorate, like art, history, anthropology, or some such.
He does have a doctorate, but, hey, it’s a small museum, and we’re all friends here, so Monica just accidentally forgot to use his honorific title during the introduction. Yeah, that’s the ticket…
The proper form of introduction is simply to say “Dr. so-and-so,” perhaps with their business title to make it clear they’re not a medical doctor. To add “Ph.D.” in a personal introduction would sound a bit pompous or kiss-ass, possibly both.
Also, I think a subordinate would properly introduce him as “Dr. Fields,” leaving it to him to provide his full name, as in “Hi, Gregory Fields” while extending his hand. But I’m nitpicking here…
I wonder if Phix stepped into this frame of reference with the documentation of a degree of her own? and some ‘history’ of a life preceding this moment? Neat trick if she could do it … she is a striking woman; just to appear without anyone but Monica knowing who she is or ever seeing her before would be strange.
Though, come to think of it, there are several people who could vouch for her, including one other who works right there in the museum ….
An Honorary degree should probably not be hard to accomplish. Just need to exhibit aptitude in a field of high enough caliber the school or schools just say “Oh, Sure!”
I remember a few women (who looked like Ms. Phix) of Norwegian descent during my last visit to Minnesota. I remember how beautiful they were from a distance, and how intimidating they were up close – danger and delight in one shapely package.
I swear when I was reading this strip, the theme to Love Boat was playing in my head.
The Loooooooooooooooove Boooooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaat,
Soon will be making another runnnnnn…
My mind queued up “The Imperial March” (Darth Vader’s Theme) from Star Wars. I guess I’m not so much of a romantic kinda guy.
People have gotten married to the Imperial March as well 😉
No, no, no…. the song “Bali Hai!”
Some people live on a lonely island…”
I dare say they may both find something special!
P.S. — LOOVVVEEEE the perspective arm/hand! Fabulous!
Nice. “Bali Haaaaaiiiii will call you/ There’s a sphiiiiiiiinx in the libraryyyyyy”
I thought it was ‘some people live on a lovely island’….
“Got it made! Got it made! Got it made!
I’m hot for Teacher!”
I thought it was “I got it bad”
She just killed another one.

dun dun dun…
Another one bites the dust.
dun dun dun…
Another one bites the dust.
And another one down and another one down
Opportunist.
No – i didn’t mean Phix.
Oh but all good predators are!
I’ll BET he wants to show her his museum. heh heh heh XD
LOVE M’s expression in Panel One.
“Big grin – hope nothing goes wrong!”
Lucky Gregory. Lucky Gregory. Lucky Gregory. Lucky Gregory. Lucky Gregory.
Good thing these are cartoon characters. If I’d walked into an expression like Phix is wearing in the first panel, I … ay ay ay ay ay.
Bullseye on Cupid’s Arrow!
if I recall Monica’s boss wasn’t that tall, was he? He’ll be straining his neck while he’s giving that tour lol
“My eyes are up here” … right?
I wouldn’t count on that. Dr. Greg might be more interested in things nearer to eye-level than Phix’s face.
He’s going to have to careful of that through their whole tour LOL
Wow. Not the subject, but the art. That is one of the best uses of eye-level from the reader’s POV I have seen. Very subtle, very effective. Paul, you are good at this.
Nice Artwork. And “Phix” is so fitting… at least from my viewpoint…. errmm… well… its a Homophone to a german 4 Letter word meaning “F*** it”.
In Greek: Sfinx/Fix; in Latin: Sphinx/Phix – just saying. But I do think our kitten is on the prowl.
Gotta love that “deer in the headlights” expression of his! She is breathtaking, tho’, huh?
She’s a fine looking woman.
Is her name pronounced with a pronounced ‘Phaa’?
Two syllables?
One and a half?
I’m guessing it sounds significantly different than ‘fix’.
Please excuse her fangs, unnerving cat-like stares, and tendency to purr when you scratch under her chin. Oh, and never say “riddle me this.”
I’ll bet she’s just deadly with crossword puzzles. :o)
looks like monica’s shirt layer is on top
Actually, I think that’s just an inconveniently-placed fold on Phix’s sleeve.
Oh my god. Monica does actual work. I am SHOCKED I tell you.
A tour that ends in the broom closet. heh heh
pu-lease.
I’m sure his office has a lock.
Phix is a classy lady after all.
uhh Greg there’s a little drool on your chin. And blink once in a while.
That second panel definitely seems to be from Greg’s point of view, which would explain why M doesn’t appear to have a chest and is otherwise fading into the background. 🙂
Thank you, Pablo. 😉
I just noticed something… she’s so tall that she broke right through the separator between the upper and lower panels… 😉
Nope, the second panel just matched up funny with Phix’s shirt in the first.

Incredible panel, Pablo.
Lovin’ the artwork !
Yep. Deer in the headlights. That’s the look.
I don’t blame him one bit.
And maybe her look is more of a “”won’t you come into my parlor?” said the spider to the fly.” kinda gaze. Hmm. Remember that old saying, “Never trust a smiling cat.”?
Or a smiling woman.
And she goes na na na na na nanana nana na na na na na na na She’s Got the Look.
A question just came to me when I was looking at the comic again, today. Should it not be Dr. Gregory Fields, PhD? It would just strike me as odd that the curator would not have a doctorate, like art, history, anthropology, or some such.
Shoot! And I had that in my notes and the storyboard! *grumble*

My dad could always tell when they wanted him to judge a science contest at the school.
That was the only time the mail was addressed to Dr. Xxxxxxx.
Looks like Phix wants to do lunch.
Or have him for lunch. She is, perhaps, a man eater, but we covered that discussion a days or two back.
Daawww
Tomorrow: “So, my dear, what do you do for a living?” “Oh, I’m just a simple librarian, specializing in ancient literature.”
I wonder if Phix stepped into this frame of reference with the documentation of a degree of her own? and some ‘history’ of a life preceding this moment? Neat trick if she could do it … she is a striking woman; just to appear without anyone but Monica knowing who she is or ever seeing her before would be strange.

More like she specilizes in being the subject of ancient literature.
One mustn’t forget that M is tiny
I remember a few women (who looked like Ms. Phix) of Norwegian descent during my last visit to Minnesota. I remember how beautiful they were from a distance, and how intimidating they were up close – danger and delight in one shapely package.
For the record, I’m six feet tall.
Is Phix really tall or is Monica really short?
Yes.
(That is, both are correct!)
IIRC, Monica’s 4’10” or 4’11” (147 to 149 cm), and I’d eyeball guess Phix at 6’4″ to 6’6″ (193 to 198 cm). So yes, and yes.
That is correct. =)
Awww damn his flubergast crushing is cute
Yeah! I’ll bet you would Dr. Gregory Fields.
Smoooth
Wasn’t his tie loose in yesterday’s comic?
After he saw Phix it (and everything else) tightened up on its own. ;-p
Cupid struck again! ping
