Ok, that makes me happy. And sorry Brandi, but they were still a threat. They apparently killed people for that stuff, and were willing to start shooting anyone who was a threat to the operation. M wouldn’t have been the last person they tried to murder.
Later in the story Bud explicitly states, that Brandi is “the only individual that viscerally scares the crap out of her”. So I suppose, yes, it is important not to upset Brandi.
One hand grenade can throw fragments anywhere from 15 to 200 meters, depending on its purpose. I’s say that many grenades going off at once killed the news crews across the street.
It would be hard to get soldier to use a grenade that throws fragments further than they can throw the grenade. Or if the fragments could penetrate light cover.
Don’t know what kind of hand grenades you’ve used. The ones I was trained to use were impossible to throw far enough that you were out of the danger zone. That’s why you dove and pushed your face into the dirt whenever the grenades went flying.
Now understand that there is a difference between kill range and danger range. The kill range is about five yards, but the danger range is 200 yards. Just because you are out of the kill range doesn’t mean you can’t be killed only that it’s far more likely that you will only be wounded if hit by fragments. The further away you are the less likely you are to be hit, and if you’re hit the damage done goes down.
we had one guy who was able to reliably get that grenade past 60 yards, but that was just throwing dummies. Doing the same when people are shooting everywhere I doubt he’d be able to get it as far, and for most of us 30 yards probably was a good distance to aim for in real combat situations, and then there would also be the dropped or simply flubbed grenades, those that rolled back down hill and so on. Someone threw a grenade and you ate dirt!
Well that was the “standard” grenades. We did have flash bang, tear gas, and smoke grenades, but any time they just called for grenades it was the fragmentation grenades and those were brutal.
Brandi’s a firein her lazar!!

THANK YOU!
Ah.
But Brandi isn’t just another hippie peacenik chick having a sad.
As established in her scene with Jin, she is Golem With Violence Issues.
A bunch of gunman in the Middle East? That’s a chickensh!t job for Bud.
Taking care of them in a way that won’t get Brandi upset? That’s the real hero work of the evening. Right here, in this room.
Because it’s very very very important that you Do. Not. Make. Brandi. Upset.

It depends on how many walls, and what type. were between them and the grenades, no?
HA! and you all thing Bud doesn’t have big BOOMS? *rimshot*
