Shoulder Brake
My shoulder is doing much better, but still get a bit sore. Trying to push it more each day without making it angry. Wapsi will return Monday April 30th.

Interesting side of Phix.
Teenage angst Phix.
I dont know whats with you american and “angst”. My thesaurus tells me it translates as “anxiety, fear, worry or insecurity”. Whenever i read it in some american text however I dont get the meaning.
TLDR: Angst = Anxiety + Hope
Teenage version usually includes some level of rage.

@gavote
So its a new american word to learn. Nothing to do with the german one that spells the same.
There is that german word arm. That spells the same in english and means the same as in german. But there is another arm that is “poor” in english. Must be confusing too for english speakers who learn german.
She really puts the beast into that bass!
And now live on stage, Sphinx and the Sphinxsters!
… maybe not.
Sphinx and the Riddlesolvers?
Phix and the Animals – no, thats insulting and wrong.
Phix and the Paras, yeah, thats it.
OPENING FOR WILD STALLIONS!
WILD STALLIONS RULE!
BE EXCELLENT TO EACH OTHER!
I really, really, REALLY want to see that band!
The punk rock era Phix!
This is AWESOME. OMG so awesome.
Appropriate, too. It’s not a fretless bass. If you were in the front row of the audience, and she looked down at you over her bass, could you manage to be fretless?
Oi!
Pun jar!
Maybe she should jam with Fermented Banana?
(“We’re getting the band back together…”)
Either she or shelly would have to take up guitar. Shelly was the bass player for Fermented Banana, so they’d have to figure out if she stays in her original position or covers owen’s part, or if phix takes owen’s place. Owen probably won’t come back for a reunion… especially since we haven’t seen any strips with him in/mentioned since after shelly returned from the forest. Also I’m going to guess that that’s a Lakland P-bass.
“I know!, lets have TWO Bass Players in the Band!”
Well now we know where Shelly gets her musical inclination.
I’ve long had a crush on Phyx, but this one nails it. Paul: may I have Phyx’s phone number?
867-5309. If here roomate, Jennie, answers and wants to know how you got that number, just tell her your buddy Tommy gave it to you. 🙂
They had Fender Precision basses back then?
Maybe Leo is a titan or something and just fakes death and changes identity every so often?
The precision Bass, came to market in 1951.
My dad has a telecaster bass from 1972
It depends on how “way back” your “then” is…
The electric guitar-styled bass predates the Fender Precision Bass by at least 16 years
By 1935 Audiovox was selling the “Model 736 Bass Fiddle”, designed by musician and inventor Paul Tutmarc in the early 1930’s.
Google and Wikipedia can be your friends too. 😉
I’m pretty sure that the solid-bodied bass doesn’t predate the era of electrical amplification started by Lee De Forest and his invention of the triode valve in 1907.
WHOA!!! She Plays Bass!
And by the looks of it she plays an extra long bass … making it possible she can play some really low note bass.
Considering that bass is at least 3 meters long…bass of the Apocalypse confirmed.
Yeah, it is a good thing she doesn’t play a 5-string: the B string would be so low only the Humpback Whales in the audience would be able to hear it.
And any elephants as well… Although elephants might detect the infrasound through the detectors in their feet, depending on how infra it is…
If she’s in her full-sphinx form, that guitar is the size of a car… a big car!
Nice work, and good to see Phix again, but when did her right arm grow to be almost six feet long? Some oddities of proportion here.
I agree that the proportions on the forearm are off. However, do we know how tall Phix is in this form?
Yeah, I chalk that sketch up to inking before I had the pencil lines squared up. Oops.
no no,, they are shape shiffter ,, uses shifting to get wicked notes….
Don’t personally see anything wrong with the arms: the left forearm is simply ‘hidden’ by it being ‘straight-on’ to the viewer
…is now a good time to mention that I’ve got a thing for girls wielding bass?
“Ain’t she sweet,
From her head down to her feet (and that’s a long way),
But I ask you very confidentially,
Ain’t she sweet?
Mm, ain’t she large?
But she gives me such a charge.
I ask you very confidentially,
Ain’t that baby large?
She stretches out
In all directions.
I’m here to shout
Lordy, that’s perfection! (Are you with me?)
Ain’t she keen?
Well, that’s the most I’ve ever seen.
And I’m here to tell you, I’m her ding-dong daddy,
And she’s my queen.
And she is king-sized—
Ain’t she sweet?
A lotta mama—
Ain’t she sweet?
She carries me away—”
—Milton Ager (music) and Jack Yellen (lyrics); additional lyrics attributed to Jasper DePew.
HELL’S BELLS & SHOTGUN SHELLS! I had no idea Phix could rake an axe? YOU GO, GIRL!!!
Auditioning for Eddi and the Fey, obviously.
Awesome Phix!
She’s been living by herself for 80,000+ years. I imagine she has a lot of skills.
Be quiet in the library.
The librarian needs to hear herself shred.
Don’t ask her to do the Seinfeld slap-bass or you’ll be wearing your insides on the outside.
Port and starboard lights, too.
AH! Someone else noticed!
I just ran across this while catching up on the comic (I fell a year or so behind), and this really reminds me of Capaldi’s Doctor (Doctor Who) during his 2nd and 3rd season. An ancient, very intelligent entity enjoying riffing on an electric guitar.
It’s hard to tell if that’s a Jazz, or a Precision Bass, Phix’s hand is in the way.
