Hmm, already we see that Bud is making good strides towards becoming human again, and then we see the flip side of Jin’s numbing strategy. Interesante Pablo.

      I wonder about that now.
Supposedly, these three girls originally all lived in the same local area of the Mediterranean region 10, 500 years ago, yet all three have distinctly different ethnicities more typical of very distant parts of the world from each other, in an era when long-distance travel was sometimes a generational journey (and thus almost never undertaken unless the region you lived in currently had become completely inhospitable).
Their first appearance, and first explanation of them (later discredited) says these bodies were formed in that moment by the magic of our little blue friend whose name I can never remember how to spell. However as their backstory gets revealed, they still keep their regionally distinct looks even in the flashbacks (whenever they’re looking human, at any rate).

Why would Jin (who introduced herself with “konichiwa”) look Japanese (or Chinese, by name and fashion sense)? Why would Acacia (“Bud”) appear northern European? Brandi… probably looks closest to what people in that part of the world in that era actually did, compared to either of the other two.

:Spoilers for plot-points over a decade old: All 3 girls were in an EXTREMLY POWERFUL empire. Much like the Egyptian, British, or Roman empires they most likely reached really damned far as far as ACTUAL rule territory, protectorates, and trading partners. It would not have been at ALL odd to have people of multiple ethnicities. It would also make sense for Bud and Brandi to have been taken from different areas to ensure that they didn’t know each other and possibly didn’t even speak the same dialect in order to make them more confused and isolated. We do know that they were in a cart traveling to the capital (or where ever) for an unspecified amount of time. In addition Jin and her mother were from a completely different empire when they showed up. So them coming from a western Asian country wouldn’t be unheard of.
