Notice, Bud says “At this point we can’t kill [Monica].”
D’you suppose that the demons will prevent Monica’s death, no matter what?
So, if Shelly stabs her, she won’t die, but they’ll get the blood for some kind of ritual?
(In one of the old Infocom Zork-related text-only games, you have to cut a rope, and the only knife around is one some little hairy men use to sacrifice interlopers in their temple, leaving it stuck in the sacrifice til the next time … and you have a “Get out of dead free” spell…)
Hm. Open one revolving door TOO wide. Funnel what rushes out into ANOTHER that’s RIGHT IN FRONT OF IT. Welcome to a strange loop that eats its own tail.
Monica has already “died” as the blood sacrifice when she was hit by the bus! She can’t be killed twice! That must be the explanation for surviving the hail of bullets when she used the portal cloth. Soo… Shelly may get some blood, but M will survive! The action will speak louder than the words, or the wound!
It may be that M is invulnerable at this moment, so Shelly will wind up breaking the knife on Monica’s skin, thus moving along the chain of events…
But her heart stopped briefly, which, as Tepoz told her “read as a sacrifice.” So I suspect that coin has already been spent. Though I’m not sure if it has anything to do with her present alleged invulnerability.
M is not invulnerable, but she will not be killed. A big difference, especially for M, who is being stabbed, and for Shelly who has to make stabby on her friend, poor girl.
Interesting idea, but it leaves a few plot holes. We’ve seen Monica hurt herself several times, but they’ve all been self inflicted (eye pinching, breast-kneeing, falling down stairs). The closest I believe we’ve ever come to someone ‘hurting’ Monica is Tepoz poiting food into her stomach and the aftermath.
This may validate the concept that Monica ‘cannot be hurt by others’. The only piece of counter-evidence I can even think of is back during year 1, when dietzel dumped cold water on her (and even then, that’s not really pain).
So, IF I understand, the knife is the KEY, and Monica is the DOOR. The Big Bad Demons have held the door open for their use. The door is now unoccupied, but open. If you put the key in the door, it will be locked, leaving the Big Bad Demon/Demons stuck with the machine. Possibly stuck IN the machine. When the hammer stops ringing, everything will reset to a ” Normal ” state, time will continue forward, instead of looping. The demon/Demons are stuck in the machine. And Monica will probably live, with the key in the lock, because if the door is destroyed, the demons will probably be able to open another unlocked door at some point.
Of course with all her power at HER command, assuming she can still access it, Monica may be on the path to local godhood and a VERY long life herself.
( The fun thing about reading this comic strip is that Pablo has so many twists, turns, and clues hidden in the open, that I tend to start thinking in comma seperated thoughts, because there are so many variables to consider in the plots/ storylines. And all of the comments by other readers just fuel the process.)
This is an easily over confident demon thinking that M is weak and feeling betrayed by her friends is all it takes to crumble her. She’s in for a surprise tomorrow! ^_^
Wow! I’ve given up guessing. I was thinking maybe Shelly threatening Monica was a feint to get the demon out. But now I’m not so sure.
And I think Pablo did a good job showing the despair Monica was feeling in the previous strips, the GGGs and Shelly have cut out her heart and I *still* think there’s going to be repercussions unless things really work out well.
Finally, I thought maybe that one of the GGGs would POIT in Kevin to show Monica she still has something to live for and/or protect seems to be shot. It’s all up to Shelly.
I have NO clue how ANYTHING works in this comic.
Are demons a separate species or merely parts of a person’s psyche?
How did Monica know they were golems and not some other sort of mythical construct? How did she know they were a chimera?
At no point is it ever made clear how this world operates or how people know what they know, and for me this whole sequence reads like something out of Warhammer 40k.
In WS Demons are entities, not completely part of a person psyche. Tina mentioned before that demons can be assigned to multiple persons but that those persons are not supposed to meet ever and if they do that the demons should not do anything to goad those persons to tear each other up (no insider trading was how she explained it).
Tep explained what the Charlies Angels are to Monica when he handed over responsibility of them to her (dang she should have been named Charlie 🙂 ).
This world for 99.99999999999999% works normal. Except for a few people who happen to have a destiny that is tied to the slight reordering of planet earth by the Golem girls about 10500 years ago.
(blink blink)
Kill Monica, or have a permanent gateway for demons. Man, those are some crappy choices.
The demon just said they couldn’t kill her even if they really wanted to.
Which means that she will survive being killed. Again.
Kill da wabbit!

I meant to say “Demons are powerful but not (except, maybe for Shelly’s Little Friend) very bright,” somewhere in there.
Me thinks Bud & Shelly have a few aces to yet play after the demon has shown its cards.
Can we hit fast forward? This is making me nuts!
Yes, thank you, you are driving me crazy…
yarg!
… and I thought only DBZ battles moved this slowly. Yeesh!
Please do not kill Monica. That would really bite. Thank you. :3
Geez, first people were saying things were rushed, and now it’s too slow? L.O.L.
It’s called dramatic tension people, get over it.

Dun dun DUNNNN…..

Ummm, was she hit by the bus? I thought Jin shoved her out of the way and she was injured but not killed, as i recall it.
But her heart stopped briefly, which, as Tepoz told her “read as a sacrifice.” So I suspect that coin has already been spent. Though I’m not sure if it has anything to do with her present alleged invulnerability.
Forgot that.

A rather literal case of diabolus ex machina…
or maybe diabolus in machinam?
Program, get your program here……can’t keep up with all the plot tests and foreshadowing without a program……….
Actually if pablo keeps this up he is going to need a concordance even more than Robert Jordan
This is an easily over confident demon thinking that M is weak and feeling betrayed by her friends is all it takes to crumble her. She’s in for a surprise tomorrow! ^_^
Have I mentioned lately you’re EVIL, Pablo? 😉
The demon is overconfident?
Maybe she has the skills to deal with that issue….
Yes – M has had years to learn how to cope with her demons, and how not to trust what they tell her.
Sweet page!
