Hope she learns her lesson… Say what you mean and mean what you say, because most men don’t even notice inference. She should save herself the headache. If she wanted a date, stop saying it is not one. Men are from Mars, so you’ve got to speak the language. Save mind reading for your female friends.

@TJ: Mmph. Personally, as a dude, I am blind, but my mom is even worse then me. You’re right in that Castela should have been more blunt, but this was actually meant to be a testing the waters’ scenario for whether she even -should- date Tim, as it stated at the start of this little arc. It would have been smarter of her to -say- these things in some ways, but it would have ruined the litmus quality of the test. In truth, Tim kinda already failed, they were two friends who wanted to hang out together, and Tim ran off without her when she was hitting some emotional high waters. Would that be the kind of person you want to share your primary self with?

That said, Castela has been rotten, and it is unreasonable to suspect Timothy to be -willing- to stay around a girl who is rotten from an outside perspective, absolutely. I am merely trying to put this in the perspective of a logician. Plus most of the people I’ve seen have taken Tim’s side immediately (Admittedly with limited glancing), so I feel I should nod that Stinkweed actually has -some- value to her perspective.

Like your icon by the way. Cute kitten!

        Not blunt, simply honest.

Also, as a guy, if you think there might be something inferred and you suggest you might think that’s the case there’s a good chance you’re going to get a slap. We guys look thick however often we’re just waiting until it’s VERY obvious.

And with the way sexual assault is handled on college campus these days (no due process, Title IX BS) that’s the very smart way to play it. I would doubt the scenario if she were naked in bed with a clear and convincing invitation under current conditions. I am investing heavily in sexbots.

excuse me? A college student recently got no jail time when caught by two witnesses raping an unconscious woman. So no, men are not somehow the victims of ruinous consequences of false accusations at every damn turn.

        January 12, 2017, 9:47 am | #

But it does happen. Frequently. One case of a privileged athlete getting off scot free does not eliminate other cases of people being ruined by false accusations. Local to me, a young man’s promising football career was torpedoed by rape allegations that were later unequivocally proven false.

A close friend was all but blacklisted in the local anime community due to false pedophile rumors that still rear up and bite him in the ass occasionally.

And those are two examples I can think of right off the top of my head, in minutes.

I think you are underestimating the degree to which Castella herself was not sure what she was feeling towards him. It is hard to be blunt and forthright when one is not clear on what one thinks. We’ve been watching her realize how she feels about him in real time here, not her trying to signal to him in some kind of obscure code he wasn’t catching.

‘Single Ladies’ link for those who need context, or just like the song… https://youtu.be/4m1EFMoRFvY
(I’m finding it hard to phonetically/tonally type out the refrain: “Uh, Oh oh, Oh oh oh oh oh, Oh oh oh oh…”.

That’s what happens when you keep on insisting that you’re not on a date. I feel bad for the kiddo.

All the women in this comic have personalities, but it sucks that most are completely horrible. It’s almost like people don’t want to see just a chill and nice woman, she has to be some horrible trope with enough baggage to require a cart

      January 11, 2017, 1:37 am | # | Reply

No such person exists. Everyone has baggage and being “chill and nice” are not personality traits, just contextual states a person might be in when you encounter them in a relaxed situation. In which case all the chats here have been chill and nice during certain moments. But since spend so much time around their lives we get to see their issues and them not being chill and nice.

Which will happen with each and every person you meet.

        January 11, 2017, 4:24 am | #

Sorry, but that’s nonsense. Being “chill and nice” are just as much personality traits as being “angry and mean”. Yes everyone gets angry/depressed/whatever sometimes, but people skew in certain directions. That’s what personality traits are. Unfortunately, we can’t really use reality as a template to compare these characters to, because their personalities are made purposefully extreme for dramatic purposes. It makes for interesting stories, but as Disapon has said, you wouldn’t want to actually live with people who acted this way consistently. But honestly, you can say the same thing about the Simpsons, or most any other Sitcom or dramatic series you could care to name.

well,… seeing as how Jaqui was just a background character, and has pretty much been written out of the continuity as anything except for Shelly’s band-mate, and now her boss (IF she’s even still working at Punk Yoga) and never had enough screen time to expand on her personality, we can’t really say that about her, the one Monica called “A Daisy on Prozac”, i think the term was?

Most of them are also various paranormal beings fighting to fit in in a human world, too. So they’re suppressing their natural para instincts.

We’re talking about things like sphinxes, vampires, succubi, sirens, shapeshifting bears, demons…..Even most of the baseline human recurring characters either work for MiB or otherwise know of the para population and the need to keep it secret.

Literary tropes aside, living that kind of life is bound to make anyone twitchy/grumpy/etc.

That’s the one upside I see here, especially when she _did_ have form for doing that when she was younger.

(Not gonna archive dive. It’s the one where she got “Use your inside voice”‘d by the Rabbitform teacher.)

Well, i feel slightly better that he didn’t just… /abandon/ her without a backwards glance. Poor Castela and poor Timothy. They’re just kids, man. Learning how to effectively communicate takes time. They really are just children.

The burnt-out eyes look like a manga trope, but I’m not sure what it means. Something more specific than ‘I am an idiot’ or ‘What.’?

Castella, you acted horribly possessive of him for what you said was a not-a-date situation and crawled down his throat for no good reason. Be glad he’s still willing to hang with you later. Use that hour to calm down and admit to yourself that you screwed up. And a nice sincere apology for it all would be a good idea, too.

You might want to find the Nami you knocked across the room and apologize to her, too……..

Frankly, Tim is being way nicer about this than I would be. If a “friend” acted like Cas did to me, I’d have told her to fuck off and bounced. I don’t put up with rude controlling behavior. It’s not cute, it’s not “adorably awkward”, it’s being an asshole.

Props to Timmeh, even after all that, he still wants to be friends and hang, and he’s giving her an hour to get her shit together
*slow clap* (that’s the good one isn’t it? not quite a round of applause but not a condescending one either?)
