Tepoz locked the GGG (well, Bud and Brandi, anyway) away sometime before he was turned into a statue so people wouldn’t be able to exploit them anymore; that might have been 500 years ago or even longer. We have no idea of the lifespan of tentacled sea monsters…
Good point, Pablo. That’s a stockless anchor, which didn’t become common until the 19th century; it’s unlikely to be much over 100 years old. But the ocean floors are littered with nautical detritus. Stinky has plenty of toys to pick up.
That was actually Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) on his first visit to Australia.
On the boat, he got sick and a rumor got started that he had died.
So, at his first show, the quote was “rumors of my death had been greatly exaggerated”.
At the same show, he said “When I was 14, my father was an idiot and I couldn’t stand to be around him.
When I was 21, he was a genius. It is astounding how much that learned in seven years.”
A reporter in the audience said all the adults laughed heartily… and all the teenagers were confused.

Between the two lists and average comic reading speed, as well as page load times i’d say you have about a week of straight reading material, since i’m a fast reader and I’ve spent literally 12 hours catching up to a few of the bigger ones, Wapsi being one of them. However Wapsi is special, because there is so much you need to keep track of , plus all the little details that turn out to be important down the road.
Also, WELCOME to the Wapsi Community! the best part about catching up to a web-comic, is that you can now join other comment-ers in speculation for future events, talking about the most current comic, or even just argue about physics and how they don’t relate to Wapsi at all. It actually enhances the experience.

PS238 I get in dead tree (issue by issue) as well as the “collected works”). I just wish Mr. Williams would put “ask Dr. Positronic” into the colected works.
Adding:
Order of the Stick (seriously, nobody mentioned that?)
Nodwick (because aaron williams did that one too)
Skindeep
Godseeker
The Desert Peach Comic (another web-in-ization of a paper comic, and the current story is a bit dark, but … worth it)

Oh, and no-one mentioned…

Aaaand you’re my new favorite person. 🙂 I happen to have a t-shirt warning that the wearer has been diagnosed with CBD (Chronic Backstabbing Disorder for the uninitiated)…and it’s signed by the artist. 😀
Sorcery 101 also 😉 i had more but everyone else already listed them, warmed my heart to see el goonish shive, my fav comic of all time, to be listed in the first post.
Most webcomics I follow have been mentioned already, but here’s some new ones:
I’d recommend checking out sediverse.com for their webcomic, too, but they’ve recently undergone some website renovations, and for some reason, the comics are now only available as free downloadable bundles instead of being hosted on the website archive, but it’s still a fantastic comic, and one I recommend reading.
I’m kinda surprised that Nerf-This, ScoutCrossing, and Motokool haven’t been mentioned yet, but they’re all good comics. Nerf-This is the primary one with Scout Crossing and Motokool being two side-stories the artist is doing, but Nerf-This is the only one that updates on any regular schedule.
I’m dating myself when I say this, but Metanoia, if you can find it, is a damn good webcomic. It’s such a pity the artist just dropped off the face of the world, I was so hopeful for a resolution. On that note, Kagerou, another webcomic, is somehow related to Metanoia, but this one still updates. Kagerou is unforgettable, if you give it a read.
There’s also Lesbian Pirates From Outer Space! It’s quite the excellent satire. By that same artist comes YU+ME (read as ‘you me’), a most fantastical love story of a read. This one is quite the emotional roller coaster, so if you do go on an YU+ME archive binge, have some tissues on hand. It’s fully completed (and it’s final update was on my birthday! That was such a beautiful birthday present).
Has anyone mentioned:
MS Paint Adventures (currently running the story “Homestuck”, previous story “Problem Sleuth” is worth a read as well)
Digger (recently concluded)
Kevin and Kell
The Dragon Doctors
And since I didn’t see them mentioned, Get Medieval (Done but still on line), Carbonic, Sharing A Universe (Seemingly dead but I’m still hoping), Errant Story, and Misfile.
Wonder if M is actually ‘drawn’ to supernatrual critters now. She WAS the one who decided to go to the island and lets face it. Going to the one island in the world which has your friends ex-sea-stinky close by has gotta be high odds.
That or stinky REALLY knows Bud and knew she would be sunbathing somewhere and has been searching for her since they last met 🙂
I was thinking the same thing… though I do believe there is a species of squid or octopus that can use its head as a storage compartment, usually for food…honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if it opened a hatch somewhere on its body, much like Bud can do.
It’s entirely possible that Stinky is a Lanthian construct, or even something that wandered into our world from another; the Library may not have the only portals to Earth.
I think it may just live there. The beach is in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, which would be a natural place for a sea monster to live, after all.
‘In other news, another of the Spoiled Princess cruise line’s ships had major issues today, but what exactly isn’t easily determined because there are conflicting reports about what happened… First some people are claiming that a gigantic anchor grazed the ship as it fell from the sky. Others report that around the same time, a tentacled monstrosity attacked the ship, apparently searching for something. Some people are even claiming that the tentacle monster was searching for and eventually found the anchor and then happily swam away, leaving the ship and everything else in it’s wake… We’ll have more news on this story as it develops…’
Oh, yes, like that urban legend of a poor doggy retrieving a stick of dynamite belonging to some idiot ice fishers. In this case, oh, an unexploded WWII depth charge. Not that that would bother Bud any.
Mine once escape the yard and brought back the neighbor’s untended ham left to smoke in his grille. Fortunately, they let it go in exchange for some expensive smoked salmon. Ah, well. Sill miss that mongrel thief of a dog after all these years.
I’m a simple soul. I like Catena Manor, Lio and Two Lumps! Along, of course, with a number of the above. THIS however is my most favorite!! And, as a cat fanatic, LOLCATS.
The little shivers of Stinky’s tentacle in frame 2, are just like our dog when scratched behind his ears..although he usually starts to drool profusely also.. Somewhat less cute..
because they do.
we do it cuz they like it and they do like it because ANY time we spend with them is awsome as you are prolly their most favorite person in the history of the world!!
(speaking as looking at dogs. cats just play to gain skills)
BTW: I ‘ve been playing catch-up on the whole ‘Roomies,Walky/Joyce, Shortpacked’ series and I think Joyce is a real sweetie….a little psycho but she mellows out.
That ships anchor: damned heavy. The girls: all really strong to heft that sorta thing ???? It puts Shelleys “strength” to question if she’s really stronger than them physically if one of them can lift that anchor.
Remember that there’s a difference between ‘freakishly strong human’ and ‘supernatural weapon of mass destruction.’ I’m pretty sure that pissing off Shelly couldn’t lead to the next apocalypse.
The question would be: If Bud gets too exited, would the anchor end-up orbiting somewhere around Mars (driving Mars-conspiracy loonies even more over the edge, 😛 )???
Shelly is seriously buff and bloody strong, but no Golem-can-leave-the-structure-of-reality-bleeding kinda’ strong by far.
Am I the only one wondering how many tall, leggy, cornstraw-blonde girls Stinky has terrorized over the last couple centuries by coming out of the ocean near them and/or dropping an anchor next to their dozing heads on the beach?
Oh, now that would have been a funny filler strip! (Incidentally, I’m pretty sure Bud is only about average height. Brandi is the tallest of the Golem Girls.) Stinky could sulk like the cat who brings you some disgusting dead thing and is hurt when you don’t appreciate their gift.
Fetch! Really!!
I love the fact that she is swinging a 2 ton anchor like I would swing a whiffle ball on a string.
I’m left curious now as to why Bud and Brandi might have thought Stinky was dead…
Tepoz locked the GGG (well, Bud and Brandi, anyway) away sometime before he was turned into a statue so people wouldn’t be able to exploit them anymore; that might have been 500 years ago or even longer. We have no idea of the lifespan of tentacled sea monsters…
Wait a minute…
Can’t be 500 years or more – these anchors aren’t that old. Surely in the last 250 years or so? And Bud knows about it.
Or perhaps ancient Lanthian ship tech?
It may not be the same toy as before but Stinky always carries something around with him as a play thing.
Good point, Pablo. That’s a stockless anchor, which didn’t become common until the 19th century; it’s unlikely to be much over 100 years old. But the ocean floors are littered with nautical detritus. Stinky has plenty of toys to pick up.
Kind of like, if you throw a stick into the woods, what will the puppy come back with?
To quote MST3K
“Just repeat to yourself if just a show, I should really just relax”
GGG?
Its a form of slang, when you have not seen or heard of them in ages….
Even some small celebrities have been reported dead, for them to go on a tv show…
“rumors of my demise have been grossly mis-reported… :/
That was actually Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) on his first visit to Australia.
On the boat, he got sick and a rumor got started that he had died.
So, at his first show, the quote was “rumors of my death had been greatly exaggerated”.
At the same show, he said “When I was 14, my father was an idiot and I couldn’t stand to be around him.
When I was 21, he was a genius. It is astounding how much that learned in seven years.”
A reporter in the audience said all the adults laughed heartily… and all the teenagers were confused.
A lil more frisky than a fish at the beach eh?
A few minutes later, somewhere on the west coast of Africa:
“What the hell is that thing falling from the sky?”
“Nevermind that! What the hell is THAT thing in the water?!”
“The Gods must be crazy!”
*Best win ever.
…. I like Stinky.
Where do I get one?
Just follow the anchor…
Where did they get that?
I’m thinking, probably not Petco.
Nope – here.
(And the next day’s is relevant, too.)
You just gotta love Lio!
Well now we know the real story behind all of those sea monster attack stories. It was all just a big misunderstanding. Stinky just wanted to play.
I think my dad just saw Stinky while visiting Loch Ness in Scotland.
Bud is sooo cute!
Bud has always had this sexy playfulness about her and panel three just reinforces that for me.
You know what’s the worst part of finding a new comic? Getting to the end of the archives.

Also not mentioned by anyone else here was DM of the Rings, http://www.shamusyoung.com/twentysidedtale/?cat=14, and Darths and Droids, http://www.darthsanddroids.net/episodes/0001.html. They’re parodies of the Lord of the Ring movie series, and the Star Wars 6-logies. DM of the Ring has since concluded, but the Star Wars one is only into the second or third movie, so it still updates.
A personal favorite of mine is Kagerou. I also highly recommend Bittersweet Candy bowl.

But you’ve pretty well covered my once and future reading lists. 😀
I would also recommend Locus at Locuscomics.com.
Here’s one I like that hasn’t been mentioned unless I missed it: Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic.
Oh, yes, YAFGC. You must remember their chimera. The Wapsi Square chimera was much more effective – and when split up is much cuter.
And since I didn’t see them mentioned, Get Medieval (Done but still on line), Carbonic, Sharing A Universe (Seemingly dead but I’m still hoping), Errant Story, and Misfile.
This week has been great – going from drama and pain to the re-dikalus.
Do they do that in the Navy!?
“Anchors Aweigh”
Where was it keeping that?
On a tenticle?
Well, in the words of my favourite hyperkinetic, three-foot rabbity thing: It’s none of your damn business 🙂
It’s entirely possible that Stinky is a Lanthian construct, or even something that wandered into our world from another; the Library may not have the only portals to Earth.
He uses it as a watch fob…
I think it may just live there. The beach is in the middle of the Bermuda Triangle, which would be a natural place for a sea monster to live, after all.
For an interesting parallel story, check out this week’s Gunnerkrigg Court:
http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/archive_page.php?comicID=861
I was just about to note that myself.
A golem girl and her pet Kraken, how cute.
Was that before or after six feet of snow fell from a clear sky, in under a minute?
Let’s just hope he brings back the right anchor. (ever have a dog that brings back things you didn’t throw?
)
Oh, yes, like that urban legend of a poor doggy retrieving a stick of dynamite belonging to some idiot ice fishers. In this case, oh, an unexploded WWII depth charge. Not that that would bother Bud any.
LOL I have a friend that swears that story happened up the road a ways in Kerrville.
Mine once escape the yard and brought back the neighbor’s untended ham left to smoke in his grille. Fortunately, they let it go in exchange for some expensive smoked salmon. Ah, well. Sill miss that mongrel thief of a dog after all these years.
Monica might be a bit cranky about the damage to her personal beach resort, though…
“No, Stinky – you give the US Navy its aircraft carrier this minute!
“Bad eldritch tentacled horror!!”
Arrgh.
Should say “…give the US Navy back its aircraft carrier…”
I did once throw a pink foam rubber golf ball toy for my cat and she came back with a yellow one in her mouth.
Hah, it speaks like “Bill The Cat” from Bloom County/Outland. 🙂

Speaking of Monica finding the island to get away from winter…

Never seen Bud so happy before.
The simple pleasure of playing ‘fetch’ with your four or eight legged friend.Throw disc or anchor. Pause. Repeat. Why do we enjoy it so?
because they do.
we do it cuz they like it and they do like it because ANY time we spend with them is awsome as you are prolly their most favorite person in the history of the world!!
(speaking as looking at dogs. cats just play to gain skills)
BTW: I ‘ve been playing catch-up on the whole ‘Roomies,Walky/Joyce, Shortpacked’ series and I think Joyce is a real sweetie….a little psycho but she mellows out.
Awesome. 🙂
That is all. Carry on.
Bud = Supergirl.
Apparently, this is Krypto.
Panel 4 is pure pin-up!
Haha!! Oh, I love when things go over the top.
This is fetch to the extreme. XD
That ships anchor: damned heavy. The girls: all really strong to heft that sorta thing ???? It puts Shelleys “strength” to question if she’s really stronger than them physically if one of them can lift that anchor.
Shelly would not be able to lift that anchor. 🙂
But I seem to remember Tina showing Shelly that she was stronger than all of them by tricking her into crushing a stainles steel coffee urn.
Tina showed Shelly that she has super strength, but Bud, Brandi and Jin are still WAAAAAAAY stronger. 🙂
Remember that there’s a difference between ‘freakishly strong human’ and ‘supernatural weapon of mass destruction.’ I’m pretty sure that pissing off Shelly couldn’t lead to the next apocalypse.
In this comic, I wouldn’t be too sure of that.
I did say pretty sure.
I love the third panel. I can totally ‘feel’ the weight of the anchor.
Golem–can squish anything organic into diamond–
The question would be: If Bud gets too exited, would the anchor end-up orbiting somewhere around Mars (driving Mars-conspiracy loonies even more over the edge, 😛 )???
Shelly is seriously buff and bloody strong, but no Golem-can-leave-the-structure-of-reality-bleeding kinda’ strong by far.
She did crush the calander machine into a diamond and subsiquently throw it into the sun.
NOPE! Bud’s happening beats my adventure of something coming out of the water, thinking it will have me as a meal.
Um, Paul … intruducing a new charater?
Am I the only one wondering how many tall, leggy, cornstraw-blonde girls Stinky has terrorized over the last couple centuries by coming out of the ocean near them and/or dropping an anchor next to their dozing heads on the beach?
Oh, now that would have been a funny filler strip! (Incidentally, I’m pretty sure Bud is only about average height. Brandi is the tallest of the Golem Girls.) Stinky could sulk like the cat who brings you some disgusting dead thing and is hurt when you don’t appreciate their gift.
