Is she like Anger Man from Mystery Men? She needs to be pissed to unleash the power (like the guy who couldn’t be invisible unless nobody was looking at him)…
I think she was that way already shortly before she lost Nudge. It may have been due to having her relationship with Monica and Shelly redefined. I’m not sure if Tina redefined it or someone else did. It could be simply because Monica and Shelly invited her to celebrate with them after they took care of the calendar machine. (The previous time, Tina basically invited herself.)
Well she has seen her “anima” as Jin did put it. Some Shamanic mojo is going on here i would think. That she got super-strength out of it is thought interesting given that her “anima” was a Rabbit/bunny. i see Another “vision quest” coming up.
Hmmm. Maybe there is something to the idea that she’s only really strong when she’s uoset/angry – she was pissed off when she tossed the V8 block, and she was stressing over Heather coming over when the bowling ball clocked her…
(But that doesn’t explain the “lifting-heavy-weight-by-string-on-big-toe” bit…)
That latter may indicate it’s not simply tied to anger, but may merely require some manner of focus. She didn’t think it was strange she could lift the weights.
However, in this situation, she was put to a challenge she probably didn’t want to best. She thought she shouldn’t be able to, and so she couldn’t. :3
Sometimes it’s a pyschological barrier. So belief that you can do it is important. When begining a weight training program you start out with lighter weights and work your way up. Sometimes your spotter tricks you through the barrier… making you do one more rep or not telling you how much weight he put on. You do it and then you wonder why you had so much trouble with it. Until the next barrier say now 300lbs instead of 200lbs. That 200lbs is now nothing and you don’t give it a thought. It was all mental.
Well that certainly explains the SPARKS from her smashed alarm clock a while back. I’m beginning to wonder if there are ANY “normal” people in the Waspi realm. :3
Personally, I’m just happy about having noted the unnatural strength at that point, and wondering why Shelley didn’t hurt herself… And having had the explanation from everyone else be “no, no, it’s just a comic sometimes.”
I think any explanations that involve “just comic hijinks” need to be accepted as bunk at this point.
Ya know, this is starting to mimic the “Heros” series. It begins to look like Jin manipulated things to get all the heros together in the same place. Even the ones who didn’t know they had super powers.
I don’t know if it was Shelly’s anger or if it was being distracted from her doubts. When Tina dug at her, Shelly might have stopped wondering if she could crush the cup. That might explain why she can lift ridiculous weights without being angry. She could have gradually worked her way up, always assuming she could do the next increment once she could do a bunch of reps at the lower one, like everyone else who does weight training.
“Do, or do not. There is no ‘try.'” When she was trying, ‘reason’ got in the way. When she was angry, she wasn’t thinking and since her mind did not get in the way, she could smash it. Love Tina’s expression!
So “Nudge” has been replaced by “Gepetta” — a female puppet-master — one who pulls strings…
BTW, Pablo, Tina has the most adorable expression that this old man has seen on a ‘toon in decades! Reminds me of the look on me missus’ face when she’s trying to put one over on me…
Ah, c’mon! There are many frybread recipies out and about on the internet. Just the basic one uses A.P. flour, water, and in my family, some evaporated milk. Takes a bit of practice, but if you get some advice from your local Native American cook, it’s a handy skill to pick up. You get that down, and you have a tasty companion for stews, soups, cooked meat, taco fixin’s, chili beans, by itself or drizzled with honey, jams, preserves, very versatile. Your tummy will erect a statue in your honor.
Wow, adrenaline!
That’s what came to my mind, too. To do it with out thinking.
But the way Tina conveys the thought, Shelly just needs to believe in herself, and she should be able to any time she wants.
Use the Force, Shelly!
HOO-WAH !
See ? She just needed a little focus .
Is she like Anger Man from Mystery Men? She needs to be pissed to unleash the power (like the guy who couldn’t be invisible unless nobody was looking at him)…
Anger Man or the Hulk.
Hey, that’s MY gig!
GODDAMNIT!! …
SHELLY SMASH! 🙂
I absolutely adore Tina’s expressions this week!
Do you mean Mister Furious (whose power comes from his boundless rage)? 🙂
Who’s penmanship is atrocious.
And who dresses in the manner of a male prostitute.
Yes, Mister Furious (I wuz too laaaazy to look it up before posting)… his jump from the balcony to the 6 Million Dollar Man sound effect was classic!
Again, Tina with the awesome look in the last panel…careful, I could really get used to this…
Rawr !
What was that again? Confuse people into doing the right thing?
Well, Tina strikes again!
Meanwhile, Wonder Woman begins to wonder about….
I just had a disturbing thought…is that bright, happy look on Tina’s face occurring within a second of meeting Shelley’s lightning-fast right hook?
Tina’s look today says “Q.E.effingD. baby.”
Shelly ANGRY! Shelly SMASH!!!!
OK, what’s up with my Gravatar? I thought I changed it… 🙁
Sometimes it takes a while for the changes to take affect.
So I noticed.
Dang….who didn’t see that coming?? but the smile on Tina’s face was PRICELESS!!! 😀
It’s good to see Tina is still Tina , even without Nudge .
Well, maybe. Tina 2.5 (without Nudge) seems a tad more direct, maybe even aggressive.
Yep–less of a Nudge and more of a Shove. Do we actually know who’s driving Tina now?
The Collective of course. 🙂 They are a bit more democratic than Nudge was.
I wonder what the extent of her strength is! Maybe she can do this too: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/anotherdiamond/
Wait… how many Golems were made…?
(It’s called stirring the pot. It’s fun)
It’s never been said (but I don’t think Shelly is one). Not less than four, though; Tepoztecotl was a prototype test unit made before the Chimera WMD.
Not quite. Mey did it to herself first. That’s how she ‘impressed’ the Lantian king…
Imagine what she will do to officer crotch-rocket when they have a fight and she gets mad.
Well, at least she wouldn’t end up time-traveling to, say, 10 years in the future…
Well, THAT wasn’t cryptic!
I always thought anger lead to the dark side not super-human strenth.
If Shelly has powers and M has powers…wonder what powers Amanda has.
Vision maybe?
Photographic memory?
BWAHHAHAHAHAHA!
…Okay, I’m going to be laughing at that one all day. Well done.
HEEHEE!! Nice!!
Or Amanda may, in fact, be entirely normal (if there’s something like that in the Wapsiverse… or anywhere, really)
…and that would be the weirdest thing of all.
Well she has seen her “anima” as Jin did put it. Some Shamanic mojo is going on here i would think. That she got super-strength out of it is thought interesting given that her “anima” was a Rabbit/bunny. i see Another “vision quest” coming up.
Anyway i theorize to much.
Bunnies are scary – just ask Anya…
o/~ There is nothing we can’t face… Except for bunnies… o/~
Yeah, I got that.
heh and i thought someone digs up Overgrowth XD
Tha’s nae an ardinary rabbit! … It’s got huge teeth…
Run away! Run away!
Tepoz totally foreshadowed it though. heh, took me an hour to find the refrence but I found
it finally

Yeah. First thing I thought of when I saw yesterday’s was her tossing that engine block a while back.
Well that certainly explains the SPARKS from her smashed alarm clock a while back. I’m beginning to wonder if there are ANY “normal” people in the Waspi realm. :3

Maybe she’s hoping that, this time, all that superpower can fix the clock?

I see Akamar said basically the same thing in his reply to Fairportfan.
Yeah, it really can be helpful, actually reading the previous posts before you make one…. snerk
Sometimes a post on a previous thread will appear while you’re writing your own. It’s happened to me a couple of times.
Wow…remind me not to piss off Shelly…
Also explains the engine throwing fiasco.
“Do, or do not. There is no ‘try.'” When she was trying, ‘reason’ got in the way. When she was angry, she wasn’t thinking and since her mind did not get in the way, she could smash it. Love Tina’s expression!
SHE’S LIKE THE HULK!!
“Rrr… don’t make me angry… you would like me when I’m ANGRY…”
So “Nudge” has been replaced by “Gepetta” — a female puppet-master — one who pulls strings…

I get like that when I’m holding a big bowl of stew, and I hear the words, “Sorry, but we’re out of frybread!”
Mmmm…frybread…
How dare you tease us with thoughts of savory stew and frybread for dipping…
…now I need a Barleywine…
That was a bit cruel of him, wasn’t it?
*whimper* I missed my frybread this year… the lovely people selling it won’t be back till July 4th…

ok Shelly……now UN-squish it!
blow into it like a balloon!
Khool…I just noticed, in the panel where the mangled cup hits the floor, that she has a Saltillo-type tile floor in the coffee shop…very Southwestern…
BROOKLY– er, MINNESOTA RAGE!!
Never underestimate the fury of a midwesterner at the beginning of winter.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BewareTheNiceOnes
You are a cruel bastard, trying to lure unsuspecting readers to tvtropes! (hehe)
I am not! I left the link normal, so everyone could see that was where it went. 😀
gosh Tina is cute in that last panel!
DAYAM!!! Tina, yer asking for it, girl! Don’t tease Shell like that!
Yeah – remember – Shelly’s fist won’t just go through you…
Won’t go through….cleanly………..(ew)
Hey, since Tina can read auras, she’ll start seeing flashing lights even before the fist connects!
Ta-daaaaa!!!
you should get bud to teach you how to make diamonds, shelly
Tina’s face in that last panel is perfect.
