That, my friend, is probably the only other siren we’ve seen so far.
The little girl is Atsali (the tag says so, even if i hadn’t figured it out) so this must be her mother, given the resemblance in both looks and badassery.
And it looks like Big Bird and Pickle’s lives were connected long before they wound up at the orphanage.
In fact, from what she says in Panel Three, one could even say that calling each other “sister” is more accurate in at least a metaphorical manner than they realise.
She’s looking over as if she’s talking to someone – given what she apparently expects (correctly) to find outside that door, if she weren’t looking to someone as she talked, she wouldn’t take her eyes off it.
Well it won’t let me edit a comment which is dumb. But given she’s talking about a flower, Atsali’s parents must have been involved in Castela’s creation.
Forced? How so? We know her parents are paras, we know she’s orphaned, and we know she’s been Castela’s big sister for a very long time. For all that we assumed they met in the orphanage, it doesn’t seem unreasonable that some connection exists.
*Seriously, why do people keep saying “incubus”? She’s 100% female, so the term for the female of their species should be used, not the term for the male (which is “incubus”).
Because we learned in this world succubi are really nasty spiritual demons (read back on when Kathrine adopted Astali) while incubi are apparently some form of predatory para but not actual demons.
Suppressors exist in our world. Silencers may very well be functional technology in this world. I mean, damn, there’s all sorts of shit they have that we dont based on ancient, alien and god technology.
Chest wound only has to be fatal if it blew the heart out, or isn’t treated quickly.
I read that Mitch WerBel used to demonstrate the suppressor for the MAC-10 by firing an entire magazine into a bullet trap inside a hotel room while a hotel staffer with a room-service delivery was outside the door.
The OSS developed a silenced pistol during WW2 (granted, only .22) that was so quiet they had to develop an electrical firing mechanism because the sound of the action was louder than that of the gun firing.
The real problem with suppressors/silencers is that they don’t work all that good with guns that fire a supersonic round – you muffle the sound of the piece firing, and the bullet goes “BANG!” all by itself.
It is possible (and highly illegal) to make a neat little coupler that will allow you to screw a two or three liter plastic bottle (empty of course) to the muzzle of a pistol chambered for one of the weaker 9mm family rounds (subsonic) – say a .380 – which makes a very efficient suppressor/silencer for one to three (depending on how soon the bottom blows out completely) shots.
“It is possible (and highly illegal) to make a neat little coupler that will allow you to screw a two or three liter plastic bottle (empty of course) to the muzzle of a pistol”
they make these couplers that allow the attachment of an automotive oil filter onto the muzzle of a gun. one “accidental” shot through the filter, and it makes a dandy disposable suppressor..
Please don’t start a silencer v.s suppressor war. Just accept that both terms are being used and no matter how much you preach people will continue to call that can a silencer. Even some of the manufacturers call them silencers, and gunbroker sort them under the category Silencers & Suppressed Firearms.
@warhorse
At least one firm that made those oil filter adapters did serialize them and had them registered as an actual silencer, making them legal to use. Or at least they were legal, I think the ATF changed their mind and they had to stop selling those.
Well, if we want to pick at continuity, Castela shouldn’t exist, yet. Atsali is ten or eleven years older than Castela, and looks about seven or eight above.
It could very well be that Castela hadn’t been created yet. The experiments could have been in progress or about to begin, but might not have reached a successful outcome until years later…and Atsali’s mother (and potentially father assuming he was actually in the picture at that point in time) might not have survived her attempt to end the experiments.
Of course, another option might be that Atsali could have been a little slow to mature physically, thought that seems a little less likely. 🙂
So, if I can sum up what I was able to glean from everyone’s comments (thank you for being specific and bringing all theories)
This looks to be a flashback to Atsali’s biological mother, who is possibly talking to her father on the phone, and in panel 3, is likely referring to the fact that the entity they once worked for is trying to make poor pickle into a WMD, after sending Atsali’s into a panic room (push the red button).
Again, you’re assuming that Atsali’s mother was in any way successful in her attempt to act against those who were trying to create a weaponized plant para. Given that we know Atsali ended up in an orphanage, it’s safe to bet that she doesn’t survive whatever it is that she’s about to do, so this doesn’t interfere with continuity at all.
I think the last panel isn’t the same place. Unless he got lazy and didn’t draw the same background. If it was the same place we’d be seeing the that thing on the wall from panel 3.
-?- She looks awfully familiar…….
First I was confused.
But… is this Atsali’s biological mom in a childhood flashback?
…. I’m still confused.
Going by the tags, quite probable
If not for the tags, I’d have no idea. Still, I don’t think we heard Astali’s birth-mother’s name before either.
That, my friend, is probably the only other siren we’ve seen so far.

In medias res, ladies and gentlemen.
Yep. And i bet we’ve got some Interesting backstory coming up.
======
Okay – she appears to be talking on the phone in Panel One; but she appears to be talking to someone else in the room in Panel Three.
She was probably talking to herself in panel 3. I have done similar when I am mulling over a difficult decision.
She’s looking over as if she’s talking to someone – given what she apparently expects (correctly) to find outside that door, if she weren’t looking to someone as she talked, she wouldn’t take her eyes off it.
She could be looking at Atsali to make sure she had closed the door before opening her door.
Yup, she’s making sure Sali’s door is closed first
Oh come ON.
We are not seriously shoving Atsali into being a Paranormal World Experiment like Pickle too, are we?
Well it won’t let me edit a comment which is dumb. But given she’s talking about a flower, Atsali’s parents must have been involved in Castela’s creation.
Still feels a bit forced and unnecessary though.
Peter Parker’s parents were agents of SHIELD – they may have been traitors, too; no coincidence is too silly for a comic story.
Who/whatever they were working for, they weren’t with the MiB…
Forced? How so? We know her parents are paras, we know she’s orphaned, and we know she’s been Castela’s big sister for a very long time. For all that we assumed they met in the orphanage, it doesn’t seem unreasonable that some connection exists.
Yes, but that doesn’t mean that Sali herself is a PWE (even mad scientists had biological children of their own)
I can’t put ainm in here easilh on my phone – come November first, you will start learning .ore about this.
The “Mommy” here looks like Atsali (from the shoulders up), although her breasts appear to be proportionally smaller than Atsali’s.
Well, she is half siren and half succubus
*Seriously, why do people keep saying “incubus”? She’s 100% female, so the term for the female of their species should be used, not the term for the male (which is “incubus”).

Generally when i use the term, i’m referring to dear old dad.
Panel 3…That silencer…Wasn’t there a Youtube where it’s shown they’re louder than in the spy movies?
Regardless…Not ‘POW’…..’pfft!’ ?
Also… That punch isn’t going though the chest. Severe but not a fatal wound?
Oops…I meant the last panel.
I think the assailant’s right arm is crossing directly above the arm of Ms. Sirrena’s left forearm.
It’s hard to tell in direct profile.

I think her hand went through diagonally from right front to left rear – probably right through the spine, possibly through the trachea.
fairportfan,

I think her hand probably went in behind his armor.
Anything in the triangle from the nipples to the nose is fatal or severely disabling. Aorta, vena cava, spine, trachea, lungs… it’s a disaster.

That tends to happen a lot these days…
“That” meaning shadowy organizations trying to weapon i.e. Supernatural things/beings
Furthermore, it was the Fae who stole Pickle back from the scientists. Again, if we’re going with continuity.

No assuming. Just stating the facts we have so far.
Encyclopedia salesman…AAAAAAHHHHHH!
push the red button, dear, and I hope you got some good books ‘cuz no telling how long you’ll be in that escape pod.
Oh yeah, a Para; she’s a Para…definitely, definitely a Para.

The alcove could be blocked by the door, unless that door is a literal portal to somewhere other than the Library
Soldiers naturally don’t come in groups of one. Can Momma Siren charm them, or will she fight?
The character list at the top was updated — Atsali’s mom’s name is Leucoisa
