Given the apparent para-to-mundane population ratio in Minneapolis, many people there probably have more practice managing wings and tails than the typical con-goer.
wow… I love you people… this actually made me smile this morning. I MISS conventioning… My local MAJOR con moved to DC and its just to expensive a weekend to afford the CON and the Hotel. and a 2 hour drive there and home (especially at 2 in the morning) which requires leaving at close to 7 in the morning.. just isn’t something that can be easily done. And while yes I COULD share a room to reduce cost. nobody I know and actually LIKE and TRUST goes to the con. I pretty much go by myself.
The only one I recognized immediately was the plush of the cat (at least I hope plush and not a live cat!) Jiji from “Kiki’s Delivery Service”, one of several anime that I have here at the nursing home. My own experience with conventions is entirely with SF/fantasy conventions in the 1975-2010 era (Rivercon, Inconjunction (in 2012 I was recovering from a stroke, alas), a few WorlCons (I was at MidAmericon in 1976 where Star Wars was introduced), and while I was stuck on a project in Saint Cloud in 1994, some friends of mine who were driving to the Winnipeg WorldCon from Louisville stayed in the same motel as they passed through.
Every Friday and Saturday night at the SoNo Cinema. Rocky Horror folks, both the theater packing crowd or those who hung out in the parking lot all night. It was like having at least a few dozen cousins, uncles and aunts that you really liked to be with. It was an amazing few years.
The place here in Louisville that showed the Rocky Horror Picture Show (the Vogue Theatre) closed down in 1998, unfortunately, and even though they were my crowd, I never saw Rocky Horror until I got the DVD. Fortunately, it’s one of those I ripped, so I have it here at the nursing home.
I started volunteering for what was the only local con in my area about five years ago, and my first reaction was ‘Holy Jeez! This is AWESOME!’ Now I’m closely involved with the second local con in my area (I’m second in command of the whole thing, part of the planning team, and the volunteer coordinator) – I’ve definitely found my people, do I know how Pickle feels 🙂
One of my favorite things about this strip is the way the Para population manages to live alongside the human population and enjoy the same things the humans do.
Kinda like the Potterverse, except that more humans are aware of the Wizard population than seem to be aware of the Para population.
Sailor Bubba is a well-known staple of just about ANY Con of sufficient size. And frankly, you haven’t seen the true face of horror until you’ve seen Man-Faye.
Castela finally comes home.
“My People!”, Hah! (I know the feeling…)
Every august for 5 days I know the feeling.
And then I feel the emptiness in my soul for the rest of the year.
5 days in August? Are you talking about the Conquest of Mythodea?
? D – fest ??
GEN-CON!
every 3 days in Either late july early august… yes I know the feeling well.
Does this mean that the song of her people if “Banned from Argo”?
Please let it be so 😀
I call BS. There’s not a single over-sized weapon, wing, or tail poking someone else in the ear, eye, or nose. 😉

Heh… you have to wonder if all of them are actually costumes. The girl with the obviously-fake cat ears… are they concealing the real ones? 🙂
I think she’s fluttershy, not a cat. Look at her dress. Much like atsali’s rainbowdash costume
None of them have sharp teeth, so I’d say all of those are Muggles. Sharp teeth are Paul’s shorthand for “supernatural”.
the question is given that this is Minneapolis, which con at the Hyatt regency is it? there are like 3-4 per year.
this page is only so big,,,, too try an cover 30 + con memes …
Time to go Ray Walston and put up those horns, sweetpea!
This will be my Reaction at my first Convention I get to go to. Never been to one yet but this year… Hell yeah.
Yeah, keep meaning to go to Armageddon, but it never works out 🙁
This reminds me so much of my daughter, she would totally relate.
Flame bikini = Yoko Littner. Y’all can call the rest.
Naruto, gender bent sailor moon, with luna, fluttershy, and a team skull grunt. Can’t if the bear or the other in mentioned girl… Grade?
Actually, that’s Jakuzure from “Kill la Kill” in her Nudist Beach getup, not a Team Skull grunt.
If you mean the one in the front, fairly sure that’s a Mario Mushroom hat
The girl about to bite Yoko’s bewb looks like Rikku from FFX & X-2
Gal with the poofy skull hat is definitely Nonon Jakuzure: https://danbooru.donmai.us/posts/1635531?tags=kill_la_kill

If you’re on the ConCom, you have my condolences! Good luck!
Last panel: For 5 miles around the convention centre dog began to howl for no apparent reason!
Can’t have an Anime-con without Sailor Beard-gut 😀
Ah but have you seen Lars DeSouza and his Sailor Bacon oufit. its actually a bit frightening….
It me …
Literally every time I set foot in the Marriott for DragonCon.
“I’m HOME!”

Pickle said: “…and I’m not about to let things get weird…”. heh heh heh…
Let’s see… I recognize Sailor Moon-guy, Fluttershy and Naruto. *checks comments* oh, and Rikku from FFX-X2.
The crowd scene is wonderful, but “Sailor Beard-gut “……..I think I’m gonna go scrub my eyeballs with comet cleanser. ???
Sailor Bubba is a well-known staple of just about ANY Con of sufficient size. And frankly, you haven’t seen the true face of horror until you’ve seen Man-Faye.
Castela’s reaction is pretty much the same as mine was, the first time I went to Sakura-Con.
Sailor Bubba sighting! Gaaah! My eyeballs!
