Is Monica really a sociopath? She has the potential to be one, and probably thinks she is one, but she seems to be missing some key features that separate a sociopath from the average person.
@sjmcc13. No more than most people I honestly don’t think. Selfish, greedy..? Yeah sure, deffinately, though not as bad as some, perhaps. She’s powerful, and could probably kill someone without thinking… But I don’t think that makes her a sociopath. Just dangerous. She has a temper, and it can flare easily… Which can get dangerous… And yes, she has things she’s got a very low tolerance for. All in all, she just seems very human too me… Which makes dealing with the the results of the power she possesses trickier, and more vital. Ultimately, I get the impression she really doesn’t want to hurt anyone, in any way.
She has just changed from a spider to an authentic person. A sixteen year old female girl type person at that. Bound to be a lot of unresolved hormones running rampant there.
she’s been crying a lot, but I suspect, physical and psychological changes have a bit to do with that, perhaps someone should tell her about her new and improved life span. ~<3
Eh, she’s understandably terrified. She’s suddenly in a strange, odd feeling body. She’s lost an old home and a rather simple, carefree life. Now she has an uncertain, human one. She’s been show. To be quite intelligent, and overall I think she’s been holding together pretty well. I don’t think it’s so much she put on a show for Cricket so much as she’s just really starting to process and deal with everything.
She’s feeling the love and acceptance that Monica is directing toward her, and she’s relieved she will have a place to live that won’t require her to be separated from her best friend Dietzel. Those tears in the third panel could easily be tears of joy and relief, or a stress release, or both.
There’s a very old strip of Monica hugging Shelly just this way, with Monica saying “busty mom hugs to the rescue” or some such. Monica has ALWAYS had the instinct, she just needed to have the need to pull up that particular programming. And despite my own raging arachnophobia, Digit is a sweetie, and I’d do the same thing.
“And guess what? You’re gonna need a new wardrobe! And stuff!” (Whips out credit card) “Online shopping here we come!”
Retail therapy.
I know there’s a para friendly mall and other para friendly retailers they can use, but they, Digit at least, told Calista they’d stick around Monica’s place so she could find them easily.
A great case for 3D Time of Flight home scanners, and a “practical” application of video game physics and cloth simulation. Get measured for all your sizes, and then try it (in summation) before you buy it.
Yes!!
Just noticed bandaide on Ms leg… Knicked shaving?
The band-aid on Monica is kinda like the bunny on the Playboy cover or the cat on Norm Balent’s Catwoman covers.
And how quickly the Mother coding activates. Even a sociopath is not above the call.
OOPS Wrong place.
Or the band-aid on Les Nessman for us old folk.

Who knows . . . she almost always has a bandaid somewhere.
I’ve honestly never caught on to that..
to be fair Monica has had alot of accidents over the years.
Whatever, but DON’T blame her hypertrophic gazongas! Not every woman with hyper boobs is a klutz…
Motherhood: it’s not just a job, it’s an adventure!
And a new stage in life begins… for both of them.
And there’s Dietzel, smack-dab in the middle of taking care of business.. You know what?, Pound fer Pound… just say’n.
He’s concentrated!
Oh, I just had a thought: suppose this means Dietzel can’t use another talisman to return to his full size. What about that?
Why not? Cricket never said it was a ‘one off’, just that it was attuned specifically for him
Dietzel hugging Digit is too adorable.
Is it just me, or is Digit trying to look less-devastated in Panel One for Cricket’s sake?
Because she sure goes from calm-if-not-actually-cheerful to devastated weeping pretty quickly after Calista leaves…

That did cross my mind too, but I was running short on time to go much further into detail this morning. 🙂
I think Dietzel was doing the Tennis Crowd Head thing, wiping from one to the other during the conversation…
Yes, I think Digit was holding it together for Calista, then either lost or dropped control once Calista left.
That’s it. Let it all out.

and now she has a step daugther, that one big step for Monica, wonder if she can handle it.
I think Monica’s being declared Digit’s legal guardian, so that’d make Digit her ward.
Not that that makes it any less of a lifechanger for Monica.
Oh, wow.
Monica.
Rich. Secret identity.
Digit.
Teen. Ward.
The Crimson Mantis has a new sidekick – The Scarlet Spider!
Thankyou, Fairportfan. I’d been studiously avoiding an archive dive to recall what M’s alter ego was.
Oh dear. I just want to hug Digit till she feels better
Busty mom hug for the win.
Great expressive touch with Bandaid addition and li’l Dietzel in bottom panel.
This is a case of ULTIMATE feels *sniff* Digit was the ONLY spider I wasn’t afraid of…and now I know why.
Well busty mom hugs to the rescue… again.
Sweet and touching and no giant spider thing!
I’m still dying to know what, if any, spiderlike abilities Digit still has in this body.
Can she spin silk? Jump long distances? Climb walls?
Patience. We”l find out soon enough.
Patience?!?! How long will that take?!?!? 😛
