A “plant-based tonic that has magical healing properties,” of course. Root beer with extra anise seeds and pine needles. (I wonder if there is a difference in performance between A&W, Dad’s, Barq’s, and Virgil’s.)
Could be. “Root beer” can be made from any number of plants and herbs. It’s be strangely appropriate if she’d used Pipsissewa (spotted wintergreen, “Prince’s Pine”) but that doesn’t grow around Minneapolis as far as I can tell. Eastern teaberry is also a wintergreen (one uses the leaves rather than the roots) and does grown in Minnesota, and birch bark (for “birch beer”) has a similar flavor and is widely available.
Eastern teaberry has a better/stronger flavor if the leaves are fermented for a few days… and of course a good root or birch “beer” deserves a bit of a ferment. Perhaps isn’t just snarky, but maybe just the weeeeee bit dis-inhibited by having had a slurp of a good home-brew?
This is funny. I just imagine the conflict of… well, “impressions” is probably the best word… going on in Pickle’s head. As a 30,000-year-old (or whatever it is) sentient blackthorn bush, there’s probably nothing about anatomy or sexuality that Castela didn’t encounter, but now she has to reconcile that with her 13-year-old parahuman existence. And it’s all happening so _fast_!
Well, she’s still very much a child. It’s a question of how much she was aware of when she was younger. She certainly didn’t remember the attack on her and Atsali when they were not much younger. And as a blackthorn bush, how much opportunities she might have had for closer observation?
I’m waiting for Castela to accuse him of being unseelie. Also can Hiroshi smell her (being only half-fae) blackthorn half? It doesn’t seem like he can, or his response to peril is to be a smart-ass.
if i remember correctly, the last time this happened it was because the site that hosts this comic, had their server farm under a few feet of water due to ?Katrina? i think… i would assume that this is probably something similar.
That didn’t occur to me till earlier today. I’ve got two other online comics that appear regularly and aren’t—but they put up some sort of “account suspended” notice.
if one of those is Selkie, as i follow that one as well, that one is a snafu with the site “using too much bandwidth” so they shut it down… even though he’s completely paid up… probably to bump him up to the next tier of payment level.
“Selkie” has run into some kind of problem—explained on “The Adventures of Sue and Kathryn,” Dave’s other comic. “Olympic Dames” stopped sometime before the storm.
Just this morning, “The Devil’s Panties” disappeared in the same way this did.
Hope everyone in and surrounding Texas is all right. I’d suggest heading west if at all possible at this point. I’m in NM and we’re dry and have lots of room.
Oh I know. That’s exactly why I say this. Literally millions of people are being displaced by this disaster. Going East isn’t a great idea at this time due to more flooding and North isn’t in the greatest state ether. That leaves West at this point and West Texas can really only be expected to hold so many people.
A few other comics are down because of the mess down South. It the storm acted like they normally do and just kept moving north instead of hovering over the coast we could have used a little bit of that water in North Texas. This sharp turn to the East seems to be the new thing for hurricanes. The weather here has been screwy for at least the last three years. Whether it’s Global Warming, El Niño or a combination the predictions are even further off than usual if that’s possible.
The problem wasn’t with the server, it was with the gateway, or whatever they use for internet access. Paul said on Facebook he’ll be taking a break until Sep 4, and might post a few pinups.
He has much snark for someone who was punched through a wall. Good on ‘im.
Whats more, apparently he can take getting punched through a wall
9 kind of a needed skill if he eventually dates an overpowered ‘whatsit’.
Not to mention getting scrunched as a butterfly
He IS half fey, after all.
I reminded you that she was created especially to kill fey.
Her stepping on Cricket repeatedly wasn’t enough to off her, so maybe it’s her radioactive lasers the ones that can do the job.
Someone who can take getting punched through a wall *without injury* certainly deserves to have some snark.
😉
Awwwww! Their first Fight [The first shot he got in anyway.]
They already sound like they’re married.
I’m liking butterfly man more and more…
So much better than Housefly Man. “Help meeeeeee.. “
Right off the bat he isn’t taking the guff. Good on ‘im. 😀
“I’m the Rough Tough Cream Puff, I takes no Guff when I struts my Stuff!”

And he’s standing up to her even after having seen her vaporize boulders.
Probably helps that he seems capable of surviving being crushed in her fist.
I most sincerely hope that pun was intentional. I would hate to think that someone used it by accidentally.
sigh
I hate auto-correct. I wish I knew how to turn it off.
Right in the buff he’s not taking the guff.
I’m more interested as to how she uncursed him.
A “plant-based tonic that has magical healing properties,” of course. Root beer with extra anise seeds and pine needles. (I wonder if there is a difference in performance between A&W, Dad’s, Barq’s, and Virgil’s.)
I was under the impression the root beer was home brew, not commercial stuff.

Black birch bark tastes exactly like wintergreen, and at one time was used to flavor wintergreen candy.
Or homebrewed, which it sounds like.
She probably uncursed him by accident. Remember the Blackthorn was made to kill Fey. Makes sense that she can nullify Fay enchantments
Spineless, he is not.
At least, not when he’s in humanoid form. Agraulis vanillae doesn’t have normally spines as an adult, so we can’t count that against him.
(Nor as a caterpillar…)
Actually, it does have spines as a caterpillar. Soft ones, though.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gulf_fritillary
He resumed his natural form of Hominis Vanillae
Fae buns, straight from the oven! (Just let him walk in front, Pickle)
Pretty sure she’s the one who grabbed and pulled him in for a kiss.
I I wonder if Cricket can help uncurse him.
Who’s to say Cricket wasn’t the one to curse him in the first place…
I was just thinking the same thing.
There might be many other reasons Cricket might be unwilling to uncurse him.
Maybe he’s giving her a salute.
…If that’s the case, he could at least wear a hat…
Maybe the ribbed kind.
Alas…Castela’s stutter has come back in the heat of whatever heat-of-the-moment they’re in.
This is funny. I just imagine the conflict of… well, “impressions” is probably the best word… going on in Pickle’s head. AWWWW they make a CUTE couple.
Hark! Hark! I hear some Snark. All on a summer’s day. The toast got nude and tossed it down, while the butterfly’ed away!
Once all the literal and figurative screaming is all over, these two will get along fine.
You’ve been… tsundere struck.
(To the dulcet tones of AC/DC.)
(Yes I know that relies on a deliberate mispronunciation….)
I liked it.
…and to complete the comedy-bit, Catherine walks in on the argument, carrying something breakable. 🙂
Like an anvil
“Get me pants, woman!”
“Get them yourself, pervert!”
Welcome back Wapsi Square!
Updating issues??

did they move it to Houston for safety???? :O
ooooops, didnt see jwhouk… ;P
We’re back! Hopefully everything’s okay with Bookworm.
Yes, WS is hosted on servers based in Houston, and thus was knocked out due to Harvey.
That didn’t occur to me till earlier today. I’ve got two other online comics that appear regularly and aren’t—but they put up some sort of “account suspended” notice.

DAmn! How long was the server down?
Look at the comment dates.
August 26 jumps to 29.
I totally live in Texas and couldn’t figure it out…
(facepalm)
^^^^^^^^^
Yes. That.
Hope everyone in and surrounding Texas is all right. I’d suggest heading west if at all possible at this point. I’m in NM and we’re dry and have lots of room.
Texas is not small.
Oh I know. That’s exactly why I say this. Literally millions of people are being displaced by this disaster. In Facebook he said no new comic thirst week (didn’t know how long sever would be down), but may do splash art when he finds it up again.
Hope everyone’s okay. Server’s can be replaced, people can’t. Take care and be safe if you’re out in this hell.
Well, technically….
But we know what you mean.
Stay safe Texas!!!
Darn that ol’ hurricane! It’s delaying new postings of “Wapsi Square!”

Okay NOW the wapsi empire needs to be multiplely redundantly backed up across the globe…
I don’t have a server . . .
I do. 😀

I sure hope for pinups, ’cause looking at Hiroshi’s naked backside is starting to depress me…
