The thought of him meeting up with Bia again… I’m not sure the English language has enough of the right adjectives to describe how awkward, difficult, and painful that would be for everyone involved.
I’m pretty sure he at least suspects that there’s something going on. He’s seen Shelly throw engine blocks around often enough he has to know that his little girl isn’t entirely “normal”. Actually I think it’s a good chance he has been checked out by the MIB and made aware of just how important it is to keep things low key.
I’ve been wondering whatever happened to him. So many questions…has he met up with his mother? how ’bout Shelly’s Mom, too? does he know his daughter lived thousands of years in the space of an instant?
Bia has supposedly reformed now, per Pallas and Phix, and this is likely a sign that Mr. Wahnee is indeed involved with the para community.
I am a little surprised at Krystle’s choice of vocation, though, albeit because of stereotypes — if there’s one thing a fish needs less than a bicycle, it’s a car! But based on her interest in shop, her further vocational training, and her work experience, it sounds like Krystle has been swimming in the right schools, and won’t be a fish out of water!
Ehrm…
Did we just skip a coupla years?
I’m completely down with that, but I thought the ghost hunter club story didn’t exactly resolve, did it? (unless the kids got in a time warp and will appear suddenly)
I would say it’s a maybe for a time skip — Krystle and Jessie were in the same class as Atsali, so if they graduated high school normally, they should one year past graduation without a skip. The last plotline comic that Krystle was in was back in February 2016, when she confessed to Cricket about the little kid she bullied and being stupid. To allow for everything she did since, the skip might be needed, but I don’t think obligatory. The highschool that I attended and graduated from in 1973 had a vocational school associated with it them, and you could attend both at the same time. And working at the lube shop could be after school. It’s doable without a skip, but tight. It would depend on how dedicated Krystle was/is! If she’s willing to study and work long hours, no skip needed!
Thanks!
I’m not sufficiently familiar with the US high school system, in my parts you need to go to a vocational secondary school to be able to pull that off…
@Grant – actually it’s quite possible that Jessie and Krystle are a year or two ahead of Atsali. It was never explicitly stated that they’re in the same age/class group as Atsali; Jessie’s words to the gang of freshman students at The Poseidon Resort imply that she was not a freshman herself; and, she had been “queen bee” of Gryphon long enough to be tired of the stress and happy enough to have Atsali “take charge”.
We didn’t see either Jessie or Krystle in any of the strips set around the time of Atsali’s graduation… hence no evidence that they were still at Gryphon then.
I’d rather see a couple of story arcs catching up with the original cast, not just name-dropping. What is Shelly up to? How about Monica? Or the adorable couple that was Owen and Lakshmi? Ok, sure, the para school thing is cute, but a little too wannabe-anime compared to the old strips.
DAMN! Who is this girl? She’s more ripped than Shelly!
Jessie’s BFF from Gryphon High, also a mermaid.
And we don’t know whether Mr. Wahnee is at all para-aware. This could get very interesting very quickly.
I’d like to see a reunion between Brian Wahnee and his mother, Phix.

It sure was painful for Bia, when she crossed paths with Conscience!
I don’t remember Mr. Wahnee having a first name.
It was nentioned in the cast pdf.
…par-aware, eh? 🙂

Just like me to notice that I screwed up the phrasing just after I hit ‘submit’!
When I said that ‘this’ is likely a sign, I meant his hiring of Krystle, and nothing to do with Bia.
Apologies for the fish puns, too.
No apologies for fish puns. Keep them in your sole, but don’t make a halibut of them.
Keep the puns in scale . . . and feed the pun jar.
/deposits a fresh flounder/
That was completely filled with puns… I can’t see where you found any room for anything else. 🙂
Whoa! Dem guns!!
Obviously Mr. Wahnee considers the heavier calibers a plus when hiring.
Whoa Krystle. Nice Guns. It had to be said.
Dayum, spook. Beat me by 4 minutes.

Our two fishy friends are very much older than Atsali by at least a couple of years.
We’re still waiting on that.
KA-BUFF
Jessie also apparently knows how much Krystle loves exposition!
And this suggests what Krystle’s theme music is, as she shows off her muscles: Mussorgsky’s Pecktures At An Exposition.
If the Tuna Girls are a year or two ahead of our Swan Girl, a time skip is even less necessary.
Is a new “Shelly” an ominous sign?
Is there, somewhere, a quartz-lined room wherein is slowly forming something, hmm, “Loopy”.
