My guess: at the most recent Ghost-Hunters planning meeting, he learned that Castela and Shawna are dating, and immediately went into shock… just as Atsali did when her crush-and-date-to-be Jason (satyr) cancelled their date because he decided to go out with Daniel (Jessie’s brother). He could be thinking “OMG! They were both into me, I messed it up, and it turned them both gay!”
If so, Hiroshi and Daylla now have something in common. They’ve both been Clubbed into insensibility.
(As Nadette pointed out to Atsali, no, it really doesn’t work that way… but Hiroshi already see himself as rather a screw-up and might be prone to blame himself.)
On one hand, yeah this is kind of karma for abandoning (if temporarily) the club she was a major driver of.
On the other, it really feels like the author is just “let’s torture because reasons”, which is a troop I really dislike.
1. Cass simply forgot to make an effort to reach out to Daylla about this opportunity she would now Daylla would be super interested in
In which case Cass massively dropped the ball on being a good friend (aka. they are both culpable), and her glib attitude at the end I sincerely hope Cass gets called out for that too)
2. Cass has been trying to reach out to Daylla, and Daylla has been ignoring them. In which case Daylla deserves a lot more karmic retribution then this.
3. That was still part of the April Fools (since it would still be April 1st in-universe), in which case, a bit on the cruel side, but a good one.
Time is kinda funny. April 1 was on April 1, but 10 minutes in the hallway has taken 4 days. So we really don’t know how long Daylla was ghosting (pun intended) Cass. Did we already have the Spring break Shawna was talking about? Dunno. But Cass, abandoned by her daily (stop it!) companion of many years may be VERY pissed off. Thanks to Shawna, she’s still smiling. Otherwise, I could see a Daylla shaped hole in the walll and another repair job for Ms. Alger.
Comic strip time is like that. Every now and then you get an inkling that the comic date and the real date are around the same, but then it may take weeks or months of real time just to finish one day or even one hour of comic time. And then when the current arc is over, comic time jumps weeks or months into the future (relatively speaking), passing over a lot of no action time, to the next point where some action resumes. You get used to it…
I’m not upset by comic time. I was just trying to calculate how long Daylla was AWOL. From the seasons alone, it has been months. I think Cass is being completely reasonable and Daylla has been a bad friend, indeed.
Backing up and doing a bit of research over the past few months of strips.
Jumping back a ways, 29 Oct is the last time Cass & Day are mentioned as being apart. Skipping forward a bit,
2-30 Dec seem to be just before Christmas break.
2 Jan is right after New Years.
9 Jan thru 3 Mar strips all take place during a Friday, around a club meeting
5 Mar strip takes place the Monday after that meeting.
10-14 Mar strips take place the week before Spring Break.
17-21 Mar strips take place the week of Spring Break.
24 Mar thru 4 April strips take place on 1 April (after Spring Break).
So, yes, it seems that Day has been absent for most of the school year, between the start of the year and 1 April.
As I said elsewhere…. Day brought this on herself. She could have brought her boy to the club. If he is a big nerd too he mighta he found it fun! But instead she went off into her own little world and pretty much ignored everything going on. I don’t feel bad for her. She ditched the club SHE wanted and missed out on an awesome chance. Hopefully she will make peace with it and not make a fuss.
Ok I’m I the only one getting scooby doo vibes from what happens next with this haunted castle trip? Well Daylla at least you don’t have to worry about being disappointed if it was Old Man Withers trying to scare those pesky kids….
For the folks going “Poor Day”, ok look. Soon as a boy transferred in she disappeared. She maybe didn’t mean to, but she did. She knew there were club meetings and she could have brought him along. She has obviously been gone for a while since the process to get field trips approved and proposed and everything can take WEEKS, never mind the field trip forms which would have had a few weeks to go as well. I’m thinking she’s easily been gone and basically ditched her friends for around 2 months. I’m certain the others TRIED to get a hold of her but she hasn’t been responding- hence the joke about ‘oh you haven’t been reading the emails’. If she had been reading them, she would have known about the trip and not fallen for that prank. Aside from the prank at the start, there was no tromping- just Day neglecting her friends and club which made her miss out!
And I’ll be honest, I know she and Cass have been friends for a long time, but I feel like Day is kinda a jerk friend half the time. There is a reason Cass didn’t know how to take Shawanna’s genuine kindness- her own BFF never really is that kind to her. And I’m not even gonna say Day has to change but I just have felt she wasn’t a healthy friend to have at this point in her life.
TLDR: Day brought this on her self- it’s not turnabout is fair play it’s natural consequences to choosing one group over another. You miss out.
One thing that you learn as you get older; the world continues, even if you are not there paying attention to what’s happening. Turn away long enough and you may discover important things have taken place while your back was turned. And guess what? The world isn’t going to ask your permission to continue on.
Longer-term issue: what’s up with that haunted castle?
We know that the haunting at the school was actually due to a cross-quantum-worldline “bleed-over”, probably related to the presence of a World Grid anchor in the school’s basement. We know it’s possible for images, sounds, and even people to “cross over” between alternate versions of the timeline.
Is the “super haunted” castle haunted in the same way? Are the Club members going to find another weak spot in the wall-between-realities? and are they going to do so, without the assistance of the one Club member who has undertaken such a leap and returned to talk about it?
Took a random swim through the Archives (meant to hit the Prev button, hit Random by accident) and started reading from late 2012, and this is nothing compared to what Jin went through at the end of the adventure that first introduced Sali and Stela
Damn, that field trip one has got to hurt tho.
Like Wayne Larrivee used to say, “There’s your dagger.”
“I’m not sure. I saw someone, she sounded like Cass, she sure looked like Cass, but… maybe that was Karma with her knickers in a twist?!?!?”
Good one.
Daylla sure has absorbed a lot in the last 5 minutes…
And it’s time to go their separate ways…
Yeah, my first thought was “that ain’t raight”…
Quintessential – Gobsmacked face.
I’m not sure Daylla can handle any more shocks without an AED.
Yes she HAS seen her; that’s why she looks that way…
Two words, Daylla: Poit.
You forgot the other word: Library.
Nah, Day just entered Brain Lockdown mode after panel two, she’s been in that state for an hour before Scar arrived
So with all that…what happened to [with] Hiroshii?
My guess: at the most recent Ghost-Hunters planning meeting, he learned that Castela and Shawna are dating, and immediately went into shock… just as Atsali did when her crush-and-date-to-be Jason (satyr) cancelled their date because he decided to go out with Daniel (Jessie’s brother). Not sure how to feel about this.
*“let’s torture [character X] because reasons”
**trope, not troop
And furthermore, there are two cases.

Oh, well. Daylla didn’t take Castela with her when Day went to another universe…
IIRC, she really didn’t have a choice in the matter.
I’m thinking this is “turnabout is fair play” for all the torturing Daylla has done to Cas in the past.
Ok I’m I the only one getting scooby doo vibes from what happens next with this haunted castle trip? Well Daylla at least you don’t have to worry about being disappointed if it was Old Man Withers trying to scare those pesky kids….
“turnabout is fair play” is a lousy excuse for tromping on your friend.
That just hurts to look at.
Well it would explain why “Arthur and Patsy” were questing for Muffins, if they’d just done a presentation for a Club meeting , that Daylla missed.

Daylla and Mohan to the rescue?
We never did hear about that one building that they tested Hiroshi’s cameras in.
