In Scandinavian languages (hals över huvud) and German (Hals über Kopf) the phrase translates to “neck over head” and is not mostly limited to being in love as the page illiad linked to says it is in English. I suppose either one group or the other got a body part wrong, I do wonder what happened to make the words switch places in english, though.
most likely just a joke. The original phrase was very explicit, it needed no “second thoughts”, so I think someone thought it was boring. Hence, that someone changed the order to make it funnier and it cought on. Changes like that are why languages are considered “alive”
Possibly this: “Mindy, as a descendent of Aphrodite, may have inherited some of Aphrodite’s powers and attributes of love, beauty, and passion, but is repressing them. If she is maneuvered into a situation where she is required to interact closely with a hot young half-Fae to whom she is strongly attracted, her latent love-attributes may suddenly manifest and reveal the repressed part of her character and personality.”
If this hypothesis proves true, then two further questions will come to mind. How will Mindy deal with the aftermath of having raised up her Aspect as a love-demigoddess? And, will Hiroshi survive intact, or will he be left to loiter palely alone on the cold hill side where no birds sing?
Okay, so if Barb’s had a hand in this, then personally trust them (don’t believe she would have agreed to something that would have intentionally hurt her friend, specially not as a joke)
With friends like these, I’m not sure that Mindy needs enemies.
Agreed.
We keep seeing characters act like this towards their “friends”, and it’s NOT endearing or funny.
“What you mean ‘we’,paleface?”
I think this strip’s a nice answer to all those people feeling bad for Mindy
‘Shaken up’? The girl’s already head-over-heels.
Not till Hiroshi trips.
Ya gotta consider that ^Hiroshi’s^ head is over ^her^ heels😏
I’ve always thought that an odd phrase, isn’t it working as intended to have your head higher than your heels?

Don’t pick at the idiom. No good can come of idiom picking. “Head over heels” just sounds better than “Heels over head.”
I was trying to visualize a graphic for “Heels over Head” and Rule 34 kicked in.
heels over head… that’s for later. (Very big Grin)
Heels behind head… I know a girl that can do that.

The plot thickens . . .
Best give it a stir, then.
I’m curious what Barbara’s hypothesis is.

Well, her foot is definitely light, and her eyes might be wild, but who can tell behind those glasses?
It would seem, too, despite the machinations of their friends, that the subjects of these little experiments never wind up with who they’re aimed at.
Even so, it might still be the push Mindy needs
No one EVER needs the sort of shove they’ve given Mindy.
yes but the ensuing train wreck is always fun to watch.

Speaking of ‘crossbreeding apple trees’, Shaw and Cas look cosy in the middle panel 😀
Mate-guarding behavior. The talk (or sight) of unattached others triggers an instinctive response to strengthen the connection to ones own partner.
Correct. It’s sort of an instinctive warning behavior: “Back away, stranger. Mate-poaching will just land you in hot water.”
JEEZ, Barbara; the damn VULCANS are telling you to loosen up!
She IS one.
Or descended from him, anyway.
