Was Summer a bleed-through from a parallel dimension? That might explain the lack of evidence of her local existence, and possibly why her body vanished… and given Wapsi lore, having a bleed-through be real enough locally to appear normal is cause for concern.
The other option that comes to mind is that Briar somehow manifested Summer into existence, which might be even scarier than the previous option.
Sounds like a sting operation to me. Sphinxes hire a sneaky type to pretend to fall victim to a broken system, giving the Sphinxes an opportunity to roll through, baggin and taggin any fuckups they find.
In my (admittedly small and private) high school, I can’t recall a suicide…though, in retrospect, a guy who was kicked out after he ODed might have been an attempt.
Well now that sounds… either horribly suspicious, or horribly corrupt on the Sphinxes part. But then again, Phix did suggest she was one of the nicer ones.
Why suspicious or corrupt? It sounded like they were the authorities. They investigated, they acted. They did not share their decision with kids.
Generally in our world, the authorities don’t really share their decisions with kids either. Though I will admit we do have a certain amount of corruption.
Happens to me all the time, usually because I’m unable to hit the correct “reply”-button, due to fingertips that are too large & text that’s too small on a touch screen.
The mystery eerily deepens.
That got spooky quick.

Like the “Man Who Walked Around the Horse” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He_Walked_Around_the_Horses
or the “Rim Ghosts” of A. Bertram Chandler’s Rim Worlds novels.
The question in my mind – aside from Summer’s reality – is just what exactly happened to the people who she “no longer saw”?

Also Castela is getting progressively more freaked out…
The Sphinxes ate them.
I think people forget that a lot of the main cast, and the world they exist in, are still Monsters in the end. And often horrible.
Sphinx-lunch?
Check older school records; see how many dead girls named “Summer” the school has had.
I’d like to get a physical description of Summer . . . I wonder if she would match anyone we know?
Since there were no forcibly separated mandibles found, I suspect we can probably rule out Lily and Suzi . . .
Spooky and creepy and yet nobody thinks it odd that she was a werewolf. The Wapsiverse is so fun.

I think this is the correct answer.
It seems that we still have similar thought processes.
Tina’s backstory mentioned a body missing from the morgue.
It was her own tho. After Tina died and her demons got the corpse up and walking.
Maybe something like that happened here.
What the hell, Briar??
In panel_1, shouldn’t it be…
“…need TO BE smacked!”
#JustAsking
It’s a Midwest thing, leaving out the “to be” part. =)
Well, to try to derive some positivity from that dire event, at least school fatalities appear to be few and far between in the Wapsiverse.

Y’know, that answers the question I’ve always had about why some characters said “I can’t even.”

I wonder if Castela is freaking out because of the creepiness or is it because she’s thinking “uh oh, the rest of me might have a leak”
Meant it as a reply to DMC_Run but it somehow flipped to a regular post.
Briar sounds like she’s describing an Outer Limits episode, or a sub-plot to X-Files

DAGNABBITT!!!?!
This was supposed to be a reply to (_Robert Nowall_), not a separate entry!
…& THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE REPLYING TO MY OWN POST!!!!
STUPID HUGE BANANAS PRETENDING TO BE FINGERS!
