    Okaaaayyy…

Yesterday, Jin’s eyes creeped me out.

    Even more so today.

    But Brandi‘s eyes today…

I can see it, on Monday
Bud, Brandy, Shelly, and Jin are going to piot in to the house with Brandy yelling at Shelly and Bud. “Why did you do that? There was no need for it”
While in the back ground Jin is just saying to herself, “I can’t belive it was that easy. I don’t know why I didn’t see that before.”

And at the end Monica will poit in soaking wet or something like that.

I just end up having a over actinve imagination on the weekends now, thanks to Paul.

My first thought after seeing that last panel:

Pablo is channeling another famous “Pablo” (Picasso).

I dunno — I look at it and think Peter Max — a la “Yellow Submarine”.

Heh, when I saw it the first thing that came to my mind was:

        “HADOUKEN”

        Sorry, but it was…!

What does Peter Max have to do with “Yellow Submarine”?

        December 12, 2009, 8:59 pm | #

The Beatles animated movie “Yellow Submarine” used a lot of images that were inspired by the psychodelic artist Peter Max — that particular image reminds me a bit of a “Blue Meanie”.

Interesting figure there… looks like a knife in the back of the neck, with blood flowing out, and something coming out of the mouth. What is that above the figure? I think I am seeing symbols that correspond the the canopic figures.

I suppose Jin wanted to leave a clear symbol of where to go, and what needed to be done, in a vernacular that would make sense in the local symbolic language. I had been hoping for a (non-fatal) blood sacrifice, but this makes me worried…

Uh… looking at the “figure”, I’d say it looks like someone needs to become “part” of the machine.

We might be short a cast member in the ensuing days…

    “There’s some writing down here!”
    “Can you translate it?”

    “That explains everything!”

        Ehh, Paul, that is.

The arts wonderful, but this forum really plays with people who think in multiple trains at once.

So I ran out to the back of my backyard, to the ancient brick wall with the creepy aztec carving on it and no one was there. What a letdown.

That last panel ran the first few seconds, just thewah wah wah, dun dun dun dun duuuu music from the beginning of Scooby Doo through my head, and that hardly ever happens anymore. Well done.

I hope that I’m wrong, but it sorta looks like a knife in the back of the neck is making that figure spit out an entire chicken leg. Thankfully Monica hasn’t eaten chicken that I can recall, so she should be safe. Right? RIGHT!?!

So I hit submit and my encyclopedic comment got sucked through a crack in the ancient aztec wall.

I’ll just say Hey, Good Job and see if that goes better.

Not to be picky, but why are didn’t they just poit right in, like the first time Monica saw the calendar and realized it was alive?

      December 11, 2009, 6:13 pm | # | Reply

When Bud and Monica first went they didn’t go right in either. The temple is mica lined and does not let anyone get a direct link to it without being able to actually see it.

I suppose that could be a knife in the figure’s neck, but then again, there could also be a trumpet protruding from its groin and a happy dwarf dangling from its butt (Tepoz?!).

I think we have a deliberately ambiguous icon here, and Pablo’s counting on our very human tendency to see shapes in the clouds to have us imagine the worst. I’ve been surprised every step of the way so far, and I doubt the endgame of this storyline will be any different.

I did update the basic movie “timelines” – how the strip could (theoretically) be converted into a series of movies. This strip would be at or near the end of Installment Five.

i suddenly had an image of tepoz opening the door, or gate, or whatever and greeting them all with that creepy “good eeeeeeeeevening…” only it doesn’t seem like evening. i don’t think “good daaaaaaaaay…” works as well.

I thought the calendar machine was at Teotihuacan. Teotihuacan isn’t in the jungle. It’s right outside Mexico City. You ride out there in a tour bus and walk all around. Vendors everywhere trying to sell you carved Aztec gods.
