I see the older books are available for download. I have a couple of questions for anyone who has read them. First, do they all have additional episodes and/or backstory, or only certain ones? Second, Is “The Time Keepers Daughter” as bloody as the cover suggests. Specifically, is there more than this? http://wapsisquare.com/comic/betterprotection/
I can’t say definitively without the books in my hand, they’re in my hooch, I’m at work, but I think that’s as bloody as it gets. I’ll update when I get to my room after work. (Approx. 10am central)
Thank you. I mostly need to know if there are more of the same sort of comics in the book, worse or not. Basically if there are more with killing in them.
SoWhyMe, paging through ‘The Timekeeper’s Daughter’, the cover and the strip with May slicing the guard are it for graphic violence. There is several strips with Monica laying in the ruins of the flower stall she was body checked into by Jin. There is some blood, but it is done in the sketchy ‘flashback’ style. So there is another step back from the graphic nature of it.
Fair point…though her bras are architectural wonders, so they may hide such things well…especially given the climate in which they all live. I’d imagine that feature is just a given in the various designs. 🙂
Reminds me of Samurai Jack. Piled on by musclemen, robots, collapsed buildings, whole mountains fall on his ass, and then he just bursts out of it like panel 2.
The Spirit – Eisner’s original comic, not Miller’s filmic abortion – clubbed, piled on, shot, stabbed, tossed in rivers and off bridges, even – on one memorable occasion – literally</I hit with a kitchen sink, and, as Feiffer said in his book, The Great Comic Book Heroes, he would “…stick his tongue in his cheek and proceed to beat the crap out of them.”
Whahahahahaha! I really missed this after all the Nudge-induced anxt and tribulations..(fun too, but a heartfelt laugh every now&then is sooo therapeutic..)
And people say the US is behind the times for not joining everyone else and switching over. We have our reasons by golly! 😛
Actually, as someone who lives in the warmer parts of the country, I’d like to lie to myself and say it’s only 35 outside when I’m dying from the heat…and I’ll admit that km/h might be nice…make me feel like I’m going faster than I actually am…
Ahhh…who am I kidding? I don’t want to learn a new set of numbers! 🙂
The ironic thing is that, had you been brought up on metric, you would think anyone totally insane trying to get you to use the English system, with it’s arbitrary units of measure. It would make zero sense to you, whereas metric makes perfect sense and is much, much easier to use and convert to different units. Just shift the decimal point. No converting to 16ths or 32nds. No ounces and pounds to try to remember. No cups in a quart to convert. None of that nonsense.
Our money is decimal based after all. Essentially, metric money. Oddly, the English are just the opposite with an arbitrary money unit system and metric measurements.
@ SoWhyMe – Oh I know. 🙂 I loved using metric in science classes since it made calculations so much easier…and it’s also quite possible that if we made the switch it wouldn’t be so bad. If everything switched over at once, there wouldn’t be conversions to worry about…unless you still had old measuring equipment on hand…
Got my new book on order. The weather here in Utah has been beautiful for the last few days, but I have no doubt we’ll have another snowstorm or two before winter gives up altogether.
You know, interestingly enough, Winter hasn’t quite given up here in North Texas either. I’ve been leaving my windows open instead of running the heat or A/C since it’s been warmer, and I woke up this morning shivering. 46 outside, and I’ve got three windows open and fans running…darn near froze my you-know-what off running around to close everything up. 🙂
The snow will be back….it always comes back. It’s come back three times now, after it gets warm enough to melt the previous snow. Somehow…somehow it comes back anyway. The last snow has just been melted away, so I expect it soon enough…
Enjoy it while it lasts, girl… my b/f once lamented of an April 1st blizzard over on the East Coast. That 50 degrees can drop back to 30 over the weekend.
Well said. Err, blown.
I *love* that reaction 🙂
She shoulda had her eyes crossed while she was doing that, but I totally agree that winter needs to take a hike!
yea, even here in Iraq it’s still cold, for Iraq. 48 f last night.
Oh noes! The snow disolved her helmet!
Nope, it knocked it off in the last panel of the previous comic. Look toward the top of the last panel.
Thanks Paul – it always helps to have a spotter.
heh rereading that panel to see the helmet-knock-off i noticed monica’s OO eyes for the first time 😀
Love that in comics 😀
Did it also close the mailbox and put the flag down?
I suppose her package (the tubes?) could be buried at her feet…
given the initial angle of impact i wouldn’t be surprised if it did.
or Monica could have quickly thrown her package back inside and closed the door to prevent it from being buried in snow
I see 2 “parting” words- and a website clock that’s not yet on daylight time 8}
that smiley didn’t work- let’s try this one 8)
Funny. I don’t see any parting words. I see a parting sound effect. 😛
Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes or Venus for the ocean.
Let’s go with Khione. ‘The Birth of Venus’ in snowy clime makes even me shiver a bit…
From “Misfile”: “Your pop-up thermometers just activated.”
And snow’s parting words will be a well known quote … “I’ll be back.”

I’m pretty sure that’s it for violent ‘on screen’ deaths. But I’ll paddle through it tonight and let you know.
think of the kids and other sensitive folk lookin’ in… 🙂
Overseas worker or military?
Gubmint contractor in Iraq. Gmt +3.

That’s what I needed to know. Thank you very much.
If I’d had a lick of sense I’d have posted this sooner…

This is the arc with the images.
No “headlights”?
In the middle of the day?

Yeah, I assumed that polymer cable reinforced would be a bit of a detail dampener.

(started a couple early for the ‘Super Kawaii Attack’ Shelly
normally not that much to see in that size… 🙂 it gets ‘back absorbed’ by the volume… :p
I have only seen it in *very* fit back girls.. 🙂 🙂
Not much to see doesn’t mean nothing at all though. 🙂
Considering Monica’s mutant tongue, that’s probably one hell of a raspberry…
Holy crap! I’d forgotten about that! LOL
Reminds me of Samurai Jack. Piled on by musclemen, robots, collapsed buildings, whole mountains fall on his ass, and then he just bursts out of it like panel 2.
Ahh good ol’ Samurai Jack….
Samurai Monica…. I know what i want her to be for Halloween this year….

Real mature Monica. Then again i live in central California so I just have eternal fog.
boo i thought was a snowball fight – ah well
Monicas reaction makes it better 😀
And i partially wish we ran on farenheight in the uk insted of celsius
50farenheight seems alot warmer than 10celsius 🙂

Brit money has been decimal since something like 1970.
I refuse to use a measurement system which is entirely based off water. Tempreture, weight/mass, volume… everything is water.
It’s much simpler to use a system based off different body parts…

Reign? I thought it was snowing…
Wapsi Square II: Reign of Snow
Monica vs the Weather
This Summer in a theater near you.
Dude, spoilers! 😀
Are you talking about Monica’s ‘Dude Spoilers’?
hmmmmmm, we ALL are!! 😀
This summer = we know how the snow will fare… 😀
Although I like your interpretation.
Got my new book on order. The weather here in Utah has been beautiful for the last few days, but I have no doubt we’ll have another snowstorm or two before winter gives up altogether.
Right there with ya, Old Wolf. Ordered mine last night.
Of course I have to wait an additional two weeks for it to be mailed from home to here.
You know, interestingly enough, Winter hasn’t quite given up here in North Texas either. It’s supposed to be up to 46 here later this week 🙂
Oh, that’s mature, Monica. Better than Jin breathing flame at the snow, but still…
I hope her package is OK.
Yeah, Monica says it all for me, now.
Good! now hit her in the face with a pi!!
Great Arial View of Monica…..HAPPY PIE DAY!

Happy Pi Day To You Too, Doctor.

Well spat. 😉

Now that’s what I call a deep breath!
To quote a recent El Goonish Shive chapter title:
Bringing Silly back!
NO, MONICA … DON’T DO IT …
(Too late.)
I fear, she will not make it back to the house before more snow falls out of the ski on her.
So, Cool.
HAHAHAHA!! Oh those last two panels are perfection. XD
The accuracy of that strike makes me wonder how natural this is. I suspect someone’s hand at work.
Rule of Funny.
Nah. It always falls almost entirely on Monica when she dares to assume that it’s not coming back till next winter…
(Or that it’s a nice warm sunny fall day…)
Taunting the snow only makes it angrier…
THAT’S TELLING ‘EM MONA!!! 😀
Enjoy it while it lasts, girl… my b/f once lamented of an April 1st blizzard over on the East Coast. That 50 degrees can drop back to 30 over the weekend.
Oh bleah! DST switch means another hour to wait for update then?
Dearie me, what a world, what a world…
Until the servers get their clocks updated, i guess.
I love this comic.
Well, it’s good to see Monica dealing with adversity in a mature, adult manner…
the neighbors are just like” (sigh) there she goes again.”
