OK, so this reply is a bit late, and by you probably has found out, but I’ve been wanting to post this ever since I first read your post many years ago…
Paul will use visual hyperbole on occasion. For instance, making characters appear smaller than a shoe to represent feelings of worthlessness. I believe Monica watched Owen’s brain leap out of his skull once. These are not literal events, but fun comic strip symbols of human foibles.
But Shelly really is strong enough to pitch a V8 across the garage.
Holy S**t! How strong IS she?!?
That’s for me to laugh at and you to find out…

Strong enough to throw an engine block across a car repair shop, apparently.
Not an engine block…. a complete, V6 or V8 engine. And at a wild-assed guess, around 4L or 5L.

Enjoy reading on, newcomers!

And why not? This is a cartoon!
Except, in this case, that IS a fully built V8 engine. And yes, she really is that strong. You’ll fond out why later in the series.
Shelly takes the term, ‘let’s motor’ to a whole new level!
If she trusts someone “as far as she can throw them”, she actually trusts them an awful lot.
not busy at all
Yah, I remember something about her being just “FINE!”
if it helps you explain things, that engine was sitting on a catapult; shelly just pulled the lever.
And if you want to believe that, FINE!
and people, that is not… I repeat, NOT!!!… a vegetable drink.
