There’s “twin cities” and “tri-cities” everywhere in the world.

Villages grow into towns, which grown into cities, which grow into metropoli. Very often at some point in that process, city borders overgrow each other, until they’re just one big city for all intents and purposes, divided only by a very arbitrary political line. Local people start calling them “The Twin-cities” or “The Tri-city area” by that point, as if there weren’t a thousand others that could be described the same way elsewhere. 😛

While this true, not many of them have the Minnesota Twins as their baseball. The twins logo is a whit T over a red C for the Twin Cities. This is a reference to Minneapolis-St Paul where the Twins are based from.

Illinois (with a bit of Iowa) have the “Quad Cities” of Davenport and Bettendorf in southeastern Iowa, and Rock Island, Moline and East Moline in northwestern Illinois. All five of the Quad Cities.

Yes. In California, Marysville and Yuba City refer to themselves as “the Twin Cities”.

No, you’re not supposed to have heard of either one. Nobody outside Northern California has ever heard of them, and not too many people INSIDE NorCal have. Yes, they’re THAT small. No, “the Twin Towns” just wouldn’t have had the same ring to it.
