:/ I think they’re all kids, and time heals…? I wasn’t allowed to date till I was 16, and even to this day, I’m not sure what the big deal is about hooking up so young… But I’m ace, too, and really only understand that “apparently people need people…?”..

There wasn’t ever anything “wrong” with Timothy though, it was Castela.

So her best friend immediately assumes Castela is going to jump to ‘you tricked him’, and the guy she likes is firmly in the ‘oh she’s just bossy’.

I know her behavior has been shitty, but hearing that sucks. Now Castela knows that her friends A- talk about her behind her back B- generally don’t like her and are just afraid to say so

Yeah that might prompt a personality change, but it won’t be the one people are assuming.

Nothing about it suggests they don’t like her, just they know how she is.

    • Correllian
      January 21, 2017, 2:24 pm | # | Reply

I don’t think they were exactly talking maliciously behind her back but showing concern for her feelings and trying to decide how to gently break the news to her.

      • Dacquoise11
        January 21, 2017, 11:36 pm | #

Also, I think it shows that Scarlett clearly was not out to “steal” or possess Timmy, or purposely take him away from Cas. She is concerned about Castelas feelings too. She knows how messy situations like this can get, to put it lightly. After all, Scarlett waited a long time to say what she so desperately wanted to express, partly because she didn’t want Castela to be upset, or come between what, for a time, looked like Timmy and Cas were going to get together. I remember the strip where Scarlett cried to her mom about her feelings for Timmy, and at the time it seemed Castela had him twirled around her finger. That unrequited love she felt then was painful, yet she still thinks of Castelas feelings now. Scarlett’s emotional maturity may be a bit more developed than Castelas at this point. (And possibly Timmys also) This whole situation will be a hard lesson for Castela to learn, but a necessary one.

Wow, this is awfully close to what happened to me, only the two girls were sisters.. The older one I thought for sure couldn’t stand me, because of the way she acted around me. But, apparently, that was her way of flirting, or something? The younger one basically did the same thing, where she laid it out on the table, told me about her feelings for me, and that it didn’t matter how I responded, she just wanted me to know how she felt. Sadly, I almost lost both of them, the older one also came and told me that she treated me that way because she was afraid to fall for me, or something, it wasn’t all that coherent, but I instantly felt horrible, because it wouldn’t matter what I did, I’d end up hurting one of them.. Well, the older one skipped town, like literally to Egypt, and the younger one felt bad because she caused it, and so then tried her best to break it off with me, so I basically was the horrible guy responsible for breaking two really great ladies hearts.. Really wasn’t fun, but it ended up ok, I gave the younger sister the space she needed, and she came back after a couple of years, and wanted to start things up again, and we are now married. The older sister never did come back home other than to visit. She still won’t carry a conversation with me that isn’t awkward. I am sad about it, because she was a good friend before.

I kind of think I almost understand what you wrote, but I’m not sure what language that first sentence is written in…

But you’re right, Castela has been shown a mirror, and what she sees in it isn’t what she expected or wanted to see.

      • BarerMender
        January 21, 2017, 10:39 pm | #

That first sentence was not written by me, it was written by Robert Burns in his poem, “To a Louse”, and it’s in the Scots dialect of English.

Scots, a separate but largely mutually intelligible Germanic Language related to English, not a dialect.

aww feel kinda sorry for Cas… the first time a person goes through a heartbreak is tough! But its a good lesson that not everything in life will go your way. Besides, the only way to begin learning the tricky navigations of “romance” is through situations like these. If Timmy and Scarlett have had these feelings for each other for so long, its about time they said something to each other! I think those two will make a good partnership. As for Cas, there is an incredible amount of other people she would be compatible with. I remember being this age, and I remember the intensity of the feelings too, all part of growing up.

If he writes very carefully, Timothy winds up with Scarlet, and the situation works as the kick in the teeth Castella so obviously needs to work on maturing as a person. Castella works to get her anger and aggressive behavior in check, and remains friends with these two.

Like life going “Hey, look! Your aggressive behavior actually doesn’t help anything, ever, and will actually screw up your social life! Fix it now, before you wind up an angry and lonely.”

somehow i don’t think that’s gonna work… remember the two pics we’ve seen of an older Pickle… yeah, still P.O.’d at the world, and “to me” even more scary to the general public than she is NOW…

Considering how bad Scarlet was feeling just a bit ago about how much Timothy seemed to prefer Cas’s company over hers… this feels good to me.

And I think that look on Castella’s face is called, “Epiphany”.

OK, maybe mixed in a little with good old-fashioned shock.

I know how Castela feels. Had a sorta-ex call me after at least a year telling me she missed me so much and “guess what?!” My brain was all set for her to say she finally decided on me and. . . she wanted to tell me all about her new boyfriend and expected me to jump for freaking joy for her. Came close that night, real close. How did Neil Gaiman put it? Oh yeah:

“We’re all of us equally naked before the jaws of pain.”

I’m sure Paul will be disappointed to hear that not all his characters give you a rosy happy feeling. It’s just terrible how people, even fictional ones, insist on being themselves and not who you want them to be.

So instead of giving Paul the chance to do what good writers do, and show a character developing into something better than they first were, you’d rather just kill off every character that annoys you?

Remember, Han Solo was a selfish dickhead when Luke first meets him, and through the magic of character development, becomes one of his closest friends and a hero.
