Hmmm… interesting thought. We know the Library acts to defend Earth against the arrival of dangerous gods and other powerful outsiders. How might it defend against dangerous native-born sociopathic sub-Titans? Perhaps, by inducing them to grow up and become less self-centered?
Every day I check for a new comic, and every time there is one, I squee. I have followed this comic longer than every other webcomic I follow(which is almost a hundred now). I think I started reading it when our main girly first got back from her trip to mexico. I will continue to follow this comic until it falls off the net.
I’m a-thinkin’ that Shelly is also gonna feel a bit bad, once the whole situation is laid out for her. THEN Monica is gonna really feel it. It hurts to know Digit is feeling bad, but there is no outward sign to clue in on and behave appropriately around her.
I wanna say that Shelly & Digit could be really good for each other … in fact, they could be … but I also have a couple phobias. I know that fear. It’s mind-crushing and there is just no rational way to make it go away. I’m claustrophobic, and decided to go caving to help myself “work it out.” It’s paralyzing, and it doesn’t “get better.” It gets worse. I certified in SCUBA and love swimming, but after several caving attempts I can’t climb into SCUBA gear anymore.
And, I have a friend who is an arachnophobe. A housemate of mine for a few years. One summer I found a black widow and (with his permission) kept it in a 1 gallon glass jug in our living room. He thought (as did I) that it might help him work through it. Gorgeous spider. That lasted about five weeks, and he told me it couldn’t stay because he was having nightmares about it, just knowing unconsciously that it was in the house. And they didn’t stop for half a year after I had taken the spider away.
Some fears can be dealt with that way, but phobias don’t really respond to that. Since the definition of ‘phobia’ is an extreme or irrational fear of or aversion to something.
While this is likely part of an arc to give Monica some character growth, I think it’s kinda off that Digit is reacting like this; she’s PURPOSELY scared at least one other arachnophobe for making jokes about miniaturized Deitzel and rude comments about herself.
This is precisely why I don’t believe for a second that M is a psychopath. She’s TERRIFIED of failing her loved ones or letting others down and when made aware of her failings she feels awful for them.
We all learn from our mistakes.
And maybe Shelly will overcome her arachnophobia with Digit’s help.
Looks like this will be a learning experience for both of them.
The lessons have begun. I am wondering if this was part of what the Library had on mind when it started this rollercoaster.
I know I’m pulling straws here but that is what it feels like to me.

Oooh… that’s a VERY interesting train of thought…

I wish I could like/+1 you. ‘Cause I feel the same way….though I have cut down on my comic consumption to about 20.
Hmmm… “I’m not used to thinking about others”. Is this why we haven’t seen Georgette during this arc?
Not sure, but it is the reason she self-identifies as a “psychopath”.

OUCH.
On the other hand, Katherine is gonna love her.
Called it.
No, wait, let me try this again… Called it.
Don’t take it too hard, M. You couldn’t tell a thing from the expression on Digit’s face.
Spiders are refreshingly matter-of-fact…
And here I thought only Spider Man possessed spider sense…

That’s not how a psychopath/sociopath behaves.
Pack your bags, Monica; you’re goin’ on one HELL of a guilt trip…
