For dog’s sake, let the poor kid out!

Actually, not quite yet, give her a space where she can let her anguish out, then someone go in and give her major hugs (at least when she’s less spike-y and kill-y).

        What nest, then?

A recording of Leucoisa to Castela?

I think she’s got a good handle on what Atsali is feeling, now.

Poor Pickle…though we all know she meant well, I think she’s learned a lesson about nosiness. As I said last week, be careful what you wish for…

You call it nosiness? Wanting to find out what has your older sister so freaked out?

And someone suppressed both of their memories if neither remembered each other, or this event

Don’t be so sure of that, children can and do suppress traumatic events.

I don’t think anybody suppressed their memories. Atsali suppressed it herself because it was so traumatic, and Castela really was a widdle plant at the time, operating on instinct. Just look at how Marius was talking to her earlier. It’s how you talk to something that cant understand your words, but can understand your tone, so you talk anyway.

Atsali was two at most. No one remembers what happened when they were two.

Atasali remembered her mother saying that her father was the one for her, because he couldn’t be swayed by Leucoisa’s siren song.

I said nosiness cause I couldn’t think of a better word at the time. Yes, she meant well, but there were several indications from adults she loves and trusts that this was not going to be easy to process knowledge. Heck, Phix very nearly stopped her before her outburst as to why she wanted to do this…and *still* had to pause before deciding to let her continue. Lily didn’t want to put her through this either but got dragged into it.

Stubbornness might be better. Pickle could certainly have gone about this more delicately that her bull in a china shop method and likely saved herself some pain. The adults could’ve helped explain that, but at the same time, I doubt our little Castela would’ve listened.

Also, given the trauma of the events, the kids likely suppressed their own memories if they had them from that age(Atsali has eidetic memory, so likely would remember it if she didn’t suppress details and I don’t think Castela was at a level to have memories yet)

It wasn’t nosiness about her sister. And she, ultimately, wasn’t doing it for her sister at all.

Send in Bud to give her a hug. She’s indestructible.

No, she needs family, real family, Tanta Phix type family
If Phix really is her grandmother, that means that Shelly is a cousin? Send Shelley in, she would understand what it means to have lost a parent, even if said parent showed up decades later as a little girl

I think Shelly is as about as much family as is Bud. They’re close-knit friends of her mother who have unofficially adopted each other.
Bud might survive her lashing out easier. Phix might as well. Doesn’t The Library give the appointed librarians some extra durability within its confines? I seem to remember something like that.

Phix is not Castela’s grandmother. She’s Shelly’s. Lily is Castela’s grandmother by adoption.

Wait, so why call her “Tanta Phix”? What exactly does “Tanta” mean anyway?
You do know that most people have two grandmothers, don’t you? o_O

I believe “Tanta” means “Aunt”, though I’m not sure what language that is. In both French and Norwegian, “Tante” is the word for Aunt, so “Tanta” may be how it’s spelled in some other language.

As the fires of rage fade all that remains are the embers of anguish.

As i remarked recently, in a different context:

Atsali, a siren/succubus hybrid is Dangerous.

Castela, with “planetary defense cannon” level plasma blast capability, is Terrifying-When-Angry.

But, on a strictly instinctual “yes-i-can-sense-that-that’s-a-DANGEROUS-predator” basis, however, their mid-forties, “more-or-less-normal-human” museum curator Mama, in a bad mood, would light up my be-elsewhere-fast sensors more brightly than anyone else in the comic except Bud or perhaps Monica..

And, yes, that most definitely does include the sphinxes and demi-gods
