Has anyone noticed how far more happy and upbeat Kath is now that she has Daughters? a far cry from the shivering, miserable little introvert she once was, eh?
The Big Mapimi Adventure with Atsali was the saving of Kath… it was when she broke through the PTSD she’d been struggling with for years, and took back control of her life. 3/13/2013 is the moment she reclaimed herself, I think.
The Gilchrists are a family with a very deep bond… each of them has saved the other two. Even without having any blood relationship (they aren’t even of the same species!) they could scarcely be closer.
Imagine if neither Cass nor Shawna care about Valentine’s Day, but both think (or are guilt-shamed into thinking) that the other does care, and so do the Valentine’s Day thing out of respect for each presumed other’s wishes, never realising that they are just being polite when accepting each other’s gifts. Neither would be truly happy with it, and only Commercialism ultimately benefits.
A Poem for my wife on the occasion of our 25th valentine’s day together (that was 8 years ago, BTW)
Roses, my love, will wither and die.
Candy, though sweet, doesn’t last.
Passionate love can fade too, you and I
have seen it drift into the past.
But there’s one thing I know, or rather I fear,
that I may not have words to say
just how much I love you; so year after year,
you get candy and flowers on Valentine’s Day.
As a hobbyist artisan, I would say that Cass has one advantage: she can craft her own gifts out of rock. She can literally handmake statues, carvings, anything out of stone as a custom commission for Shawna. And handmade gifts are better appreciated then store bought ones.
AHHHH! What is with these Females cutting off all their hair for these short dos? I liked Cass’s Ponytail. I wonder if Shawna cut her pigtails. and I’m sure Tina could hook Cass up with some Custom chocolates just for Shawna.
And then she finds out that Shawna is deathly allergic to chocolate and dies before help arrives, all because Stela didn’t talk with her girlfriend, like a grown up
It’s one thing to know that the ENTIRE wedding ring tradition, and every “rule” about it, is less than a century old, and pulled entirely from the buttholes of the Debeers Diamond company as a means to sell their inherently valueless, plentiful, shiny rock chunks for ridiculous markups.
…but try explaining that to the woman you’re proposing to? I’m betting she still expects a ring.
And mind blown!
Just what I was about to say…
And Kath destroyer of stinkweed’s world and make her go into full panic mode
I sometimes do similar things to the granddaughters
Now you HAVE to think about it.
More thought was given to her new`do…
Kath enjoyed that way too much.
Periodically moms get the chance to rattle the sprog’s cages.

Yup. Atsali definite noticed: http://wapsisquare.com/comic/same-as-before/

Dun-dun-DUNNNNN!
Well, Castela, just how much money have you got left from your Etsy shop?
Depends – how many grand did she pull in so far?
And where, oh where, can she lay her hands on some Pixie-rated nutmeg-infused Swiss chocolates at this late date?
Got two weeks.
Either Aunt Bud or Tina could probably help
She just might try making them herself.
They probably won’t look like a professional job, but with the proper ingredients even that may be a plus.
Home made is better than ‘professional’ every time, no matter how they look (or taste)
Mean!
LOL!
Katherine is getting her revenge for some of Pickle’s earlier stunts.
Ought to just about cover the hole in the wall {the first one}
But not the interest on that debt.
Leave it to mom to instill panic.
Part of the job description.
One learns to control panic with practice.
I should know, being a graduate of the Big Green Machine.
Hey! When did Cas cut off her ponytail for this bobbed look?
Very recently and off-panel.
The last ponytail was in the strip on January 29, 2020, just five IRT days ago, and she didn’t discuss it with us. Well, I never! 😉
the moment you relies the your mom is the devil and your one and only savior al in one
Is she being paid by Big Hallmark?

“for each other’s presumed wishes” or “for what they each presume is the other’s wishes”
Collision at Typing Junction between two information trains. Delays to all services, seek alternative modes for the forseeable.
Like many couples do, they can discuss it after the event, and perhaps get a good laugh about it later.
Nice haircut, Pickle.
Took me far too long to realise who she was.
well, the eyes have it…
….And that is what the Brits warn against with the phrase “Too clever by half.”
what was the ‘Japanese’ word hat Cass told her Mom at the beginning?
It’s in the margin between panels.
‘Good morning’
ore ,, how to say..
Ohayōgozaimasu
Perfect time for you to talk to Shawna about this, first of many things
Do not ever assume what the other is thinking or wanting
I’m just going to drop this here…

🤔Is it just me? Or does Castela suddenly look like she’s got a noticeably ^more^feminine^ looking body (and face?)!?🤨
Perhaps I should’ve bracketed that word (feminine) with quotation marks.😖
Now your just being bratty…
@TazManiac,
🤔… ❓

Hmmm. Her hair clip on the right side disappears in Panel Three and it’s back in Panel Four…
It doesn’t appear to be in Panel two either.
It’s teleporting itself out across the space-time continuum, searching for Castela’s missing hair-tendrils. A search-and-fescue mission, as it were…

What did Cass say in the first line to her Mom? Was that Japanese?
good morning ,, ore sed: Ohayōgozaimasu
[Evil dad chuckle here]
Also, proud of myself for recognizing the kanji for “ohayou”.
😖Kana would’ve been a lot easier to read!
Unfortunately, I never learned to read that either. 😔
