Jeeeeeezus . . . I’m surprised that M’s enough of an audio engineer to be able to pull a readable signal off that tape without having it crumble or jam! Acetate-base tape is not known for its long-term stability.
I find this to be the hottest pose/outfit combo I’ve seen M in. Something about those hip hugger/midrif baring pants rolled up, with no socks or shoes is just… ‘scuse me while I drift off to happy La La fantasy land.
I collect and repair the things. I have a couple of Sonys, an Akai, and one that will handle 15″ reels. One of the Sonys is a slant top, like the one used for many of the Beatles hits.
My dad had a reel-to-real tape recorder/player. it was so old that it used *vacuum tubes* & he’d record backups of his vinyl records on it. You know, Spike Jones, Peggy Lee & others.
Yeah, that was quite a bit before transistors were invented…
Heck, I’m old enough that I would record my own favorite music from vinyl to 8-track tapes.

There are metal tapes too I think, they’d be somewhat more durable as long as they’re kept dry.
Yea, while a properly stored tape might last indefinitely a trunk in the attic in the northern Midwest doesn’t count as proper storage.
Odd spoiler, but Monica is an audiophile (this was seen in previous strips and will come up again in the future)
I have the exact same problem with writing.
I grew up with a fine motor disability, writing was a difficulty so I’ve found that typing helps me voice my thoughts at a fairer pace.

klaatu barada nikto….
But she sure doesn’t look like the dude that voiced that line .
I need to teach MY dog to get beer out of the fridge!
I remember reel-to-reel audio tapes…GOD! am I THAT old???
Not really, I nearly bought a TEAC RTR back in the late 70’s while in the Navy.
