Just one slice. Did they all lose their appitites? Even Tina seems to have lost her cheerful disposition as quickly as it came. I guess that Monica can be a real downer sometimes.
Tina might be cutting the pie in that scene. That’s an activity where you tend to stop smiling and focus, both because you want the slices to all be the same size and you don’t want to cut off any fingers. Especially yours…
I’m sure you must have seen this scene on TV… Why show the pie all cut up, on plates, when it is much better to show the *start* of ‘dishing out’ the pie…
No, it works if the pie is thick enough. I just did it myself in my kitchen with a leftover half-a-pie.
The crust is supporting some of the weight of the knife, but serves more to keep it from slipping. Most of the support actually comes from the thick, gooey, viscous fluid filling. Plunge a knife into jello, it stays. Similar sort of situation, particularly if you hit a nice chunk of fruit or something to weigh the tip down even more.
Not to say it’s terribly stable, but it will stand for several minutes with no trouble, and possibly for hours. Chill it and it could last a lot longer.
But the way it’s leaning is putting the full weight of the handle (which, if it’s a good knife, is a solid chunk of wood) on the edge against the filling/crust, and the angle it’s leaning at will cause it to cut more readily…
Actually, if it’s a good knife, it wouldn’t be a solid wood handle. The tang would continue all the way through the hande, and the wood (or other grip material) would just be sandwiched on either side. 😛
Apparently You never tried my Mom’s rhubarb-pie. Firm, whole-grain pastry with deliciously sweet rhubarb/vanilla pudding filling. It could not only hold a knife up straight, but also could function as a foundation for a house.
Technically, humble pie is a meat pie, made from the umbles, or leftover parts of the animal that the poor could afford. The term is medieval in origin.
Well, Tina’s, anyway. M appears to be trying to smooth ruffled feathers, while Shelly is feeling angry and (at least a bit) manipulated, at a guess. Granted, that’s a lot to get from facial expressions; I think Nudge is still there, but out of view, as no pie has been eaten… and Nudge usually isn’t known for either her tact or manners.
Today’s strip definitely exudes a grimness, a sort of ‘veteran home from the war’ vibe. Almost foreboding, as opposed to foreshadowing. It’s very still, yet builds tension. Did I ever mention how much I like this strip?
Im just going to assume thats the 2nd pie tina has gotten out. They have already consumed one.
Nudge looks like she has left the building so would explain the reactions of Shelly and Tina. Theyve both calmed down from their nudge rage and are remorseful/reflectful. Tina because she doesn’t want to hurt anyone (remember how freaked she was when she found out she ‘might’ have? – before she was told she had done..) and was about to knock heck out of someone – even if it was a trickster demi-goddess. Shelly cuz Monica yelled at her without seemingly wanting to know why Shelly was angry and lets face it, Shelly in the past (from what I recall) has had a tendancy to overreact but she has gotten better so Monica was treating her like she was the ‘old’ Shelly and not the shiney new improved Shelly.
Either way the speech Monica just gave, the recent story line has taken me to not liking Monica to really liking her again – so Kudos Mr Taylor 🙂
Or perhaps Nudge will open her mouth in tomorrow’s page, and we’ll see that she was trying not to draw attention to herself until the knife was safely out of Tina’s hands.
Funny the Celtic background is mentioned…The text of that particular frame is meant to get everyone looking forward…towrds the challenges and adventures suggested by the background. Well done!
And I do not get a sence of forboding as much as anticipation, but I’m a natural optimist…
Nice strip, Pablo. As I was reading and scrolling down… hmm, no Nudge. And then the knive, sticking out of something… *ah* it’s just pie. Nice flow, really well done.
That’s the most subdued I’ve ever seen Tina. Shelly is in a very closed stance. Nudge is nowhere to be seen. I wonder if she rebuffed the pie and left? All in all, a very big contrast to how this scene started with Tina and Shelly in a good mood having a nice chat about a stone and whether or not Tina was getting any.
The amount estrogen I’ve been getting from the recent strips has been enough to jump start my period. What happened to all of the guys? Why do we mainly see them when one of the girls is about to get laid? Any way we can get a brief return of Owen? Or the wise bar guy we haven’t seen in ages? Or even Topez?
Wrong strip for a testosterone fix. The males are all bit players in this drama. In many ways this is a “chick flick” kind of thing with just enough action to keep it interesting. Of course there is also the fan-friggin-tastic plot and art. I also like the occasional “cute” and frequent humor. Also, it’s the females, for once, taking the lumps.
I’ve read this in the beginning and it catered to the ‘Chick flick’ ideal and the guys were around even as the plot began to develop. It’s just sad to see the guys usually on their backs in bed or on the floor.
You know, I never noticed that Tina’s place had Aztec-themed tablecloths before. Or is that a Formica top? Either way, somebody’s now certain to tell me it’s been seen in 300 previous strips and I just haven’t noticed.
Is no one curious about the flashback commentary saying that they became something due to “multiple Brandi’s plan”? That she didn;t feel the need to apologize? Does anyone feel like it makes Brandi sound like she’s going to turn bad? In a maniacal way?
I hope I’m just reading too much into it. I like Brandi too much to watch her become a bad person (bad construct…. whatever!)
For the iteration-recording, I’m thinking of when in one strip she presses a leaf in the book, and in another, she holds the book up and many leaves fall out.
PIE!!! XD
Just one slice. Did they all lose their appitites? Even Tina seems to have lost her cheerful disposition as quickly as it came. I guess that Monica can be a real downer sometimes.

:3 Pie~
“A good Pi makes the world go round!”

When come back, bring pie.
Me like pie…
Everyone loves pie!! XD
Yes!
You seem to like.. Pie…
Pie can make it all better!
Love the expressions. The apple pie looks tasty, too!
I don’t think thats apple pie. I am hoping its peach! My fav.
I don’t think i have ever tried peach pie.
is it just peach or other fruit/spices added?
Both. Cooks dot com has several recipes, both plain peach and such variations as peach-and-strawberry.
Whoops, sorry.
http://www.cooks.com/
As much as I love peach pie, I’d rather she have something more fun…like strawberry rhubarb. 🙂
So would Terre Roche…
Oh, no wait – i think that was strawberry apricot pie…
I agree. I’m also partial to apple custard. (If you want another type, ask again in five minutes.)
Now it’s Juneberry. With a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Lemon meringue, Apple, or Strawberry rhubarb pie… mmmm I’m getting hungry just thinking about it
SNIFF! SNIFF!
Mmmmm. Smells like apple pie, to me. 🙂
Apple pie really DOES make everything more manageable, BTW. In a pill, it’d be the antidepressant of choice 🙂
Only if its warm and smothered with pouring cream (personally).
For myself, I’d lean towards clotted cream (same thing?) or some french vanilla ice cream myself on top of warm apple pie.
Are you suggesting we make pie flavored medicine? that would be fantastic
As a Space Cadet, “you could pop a pill that tastes like pumpkin pie…”

GENIUS alert the Doctors we will enter a day where doctors prescribe apple pie… it’s so crazy it just might work
The use of past tense here is interesting… almost as if we’re witnessing a flashback. Hmm…
…and I love the sulky expression on Shelly’s face.
‘its my punch up and i’ll sulk if i want too’ 🙂
♪♪♪ Sulk if I want to
Sulk if I want to ♪♪♪
You would sulk too if she tried to kill you … ♪♪♫♪
The dialog and the fact that it is separated from the speaking panels gives it an odd distance.
I like sulky Shelly, too.
C’mon now…. Group Hug!
They just had one a couple of strips ago. Of course, I wouldn’t object to another.
You know – if that pie is stiff/strong enough for that knife to stand up that way at that angle … i’d be real careful just how i bit into it at first…
A firm pie is a well packed pie…
No, it works if the pie is thick enough. I just did it myself in my kitchen with a leftover half-a-pie.

For goodness sake, Fairportfan, it’s PIE!!! Delicious, gooey, pie that is thick enough to hold the chunkiest of cutlery…
Actually, if it’s a good knife, it wouldn’t be a solid wood handle. The tang would continue all the way through the hande, and the wood (or other grip material) would just be sandwiched on either side. 😛
Okay. Speaking metaphorically there…
Actually that’s a couple of chunks of wood in a good knife, on either side of the full tang.
I have to ask.
Was it the comic that made you eat the pie or just coincidence.
You just *had* to describe the pie in such a visceral way, did you? Man, now I want pie. 3.14159265 There, yummy!
Apparently You never tried my Mom’s rhubarb-pie. Firm, whole-grain pastry with deliciously sweet rhubarb/vanilla pudding filling. It could not only hold a knife up straight, but also could function as a foundation for a house.
You know, now that I think about it, “the pie is a lie” would have been catchier. But they didn’t consult me.
NO, the cake was indeed a lie, hence the pie…
no. the cake is a lie.
the pie is a lie is too poetic.
but they don’t got no pancake mix,
hence the Pancake mix is also a lie
Mmmmmmmmm… pie!
Is that a slice of humble pie?
Technically, humble pie is a meat pie, made from the umbles, or leftover parts of the animal that the poor could afford. The term is medieval in origin.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humble_pie
I just checked with Marriott and Frampton. They said no.
Thank goodness for Google – I hadn’t a clue about what you were saying, not being a fan of that kind of music.
It should be from the expressions I see.
Well, Tina’s, anyway. M appears to be trying to smooth ruffled feathers, while Shelly is feeling angry and (at least a bit) manipulated, at a guess. TOLD ya. Pie solves so much.
Hmm, the backgroud of the second text box looks very Celtic, not Messoamerican………foreshadowing?
Today’s strip definitely exudes a grimness, a sort of ‘veteran home from the war’ vibe. Almost foreboding, as opposed to foreshadowing. It’s very still, yet builds tension. Did I ever mention how much I like this strip?
Yes–IIRC, that’s a fragment of one of the Gospel pages in the Book of Kells.
Which is an awesome movie that I reccommend everyone watch! 😀
(No, nobody paid me to say that. It’s my genuine opinion.)
It used to in our family……
“Pie-solutions” I meant…
Im just going to assume thats the 2nd pie tina has gotten out. They have already consumed one.

I just wanna know: in order to get a piece of the pie, do I have to answer a trivia question correctly?
Three questions, actually:
1] What is your name?
B] What is your quest?
iii] What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
What do you mean–an African or a European swallow?
No 2.The larch.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2R3FvS4xr4
Yes. Here’s your question:
What is a lie?
A. Cake
B. Pie
C. Peach Cobbler
D. Santa Clause
You have 5 seconds…Go!
A purple spotted giraffe looks out the rain-speckled window.
(I hope that gets me the chartreuse-colored slice of pie…)
But, the chartreuse color is from the fuzzy mold growing on it.
Well..Monica-Mom has reason enter the quarrelsome 3 again.
I wonder where Nudge went. Orr is she just rubbing her sore body, waiting to antagonize everyone again?
So what’s it feel like being a GGG?
Do it feel like warm apple pie?
-?-
Nudge Pie?
“Something always goes wrong when it gets to the blueberries. Oh, well. I’ll get it right sometime…”
She had it coming. Stupid gum-chewer. 🙂
I always thought the bigger problem was that he said not to try it and she grabbed it anyway.
She still deserved it.
Damn, now i want pie and to watch Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory….
The problem was she was a Nit-Wit.
Okay. Now I’m hungry for some warm pie, and a big cup ‘o joe.

I’m afraid so. As best I recall, it showed up right after the first appearance of Nudge (While she was still in Tina).
I vote that it’s Multipie
Each slice is whatever the slicer most desires at that moment.
So someone can slice off a piece stuffed with thousand dollar bils? Or maybe 24k gold?
That magic is food only. 😛
I like Brandi too much to watch her become a bad person (bad construct…. whatever!)
Wasn’t it Brandi who wrote the book to instruct herself that Phix knew was in the Library, and that inadvertently recorded many of her iterations?
Sorry, that was a tortured sentence, I know.
For the iteration-recording, I’m thinking of when in one strip she presses a leaf in the book, and in another, she holds the book up and many leaves fall out.
Pie is a metaphor. All those individual apples, becoming part of a larger whole- different than any individual apple. (Chopping and peeling required.)
Speaking of pie, it looked like Shelly was ready to start a rhubarb at any moment.
The cake may be a lie, but the pie is delicious.
